It's SUNWAY MEDICAL CENTRE and NOT Sime Darby Medical Centre.

I made a big blunder here! Just came back from blood donation. I went to SDMC and found out no such patient. I didn't read the earlier SMS correctly. Very sorry everyone.

What is her blood type ? You should state that in this forum first.

I think for blood replacement, it doesn't matter what blood type, any type are welcome.

I think you think wrong. Some types of blood maybe not compatible with others. But still it is a good idea to donate blood of any types because it saves lives. :)

Because blood is not something you can buy (laws forbid it), that's why after hospital used up 30 packs of blood from their own blood bank, they can't just charge you for it, they need you to replace it by asking your friend and relative to donate blood. So, this type of replacement does not ask for specific type of blood, because it will goes back to the blood bank only.

This is for the Madam Yew blood needs and NOT general donation.

Blood type is IMPORTANT because giving wrong blood type will KILL you.

Burntan is right..Unless a specific group like B- or B+ or something rare like hMx is asked for, then the call for blood donation (even to a named recipient) will go back to the blood bank at that hosp.

The only moral issue is for those living in the UN circa 70s-early 80s... be wanting to donate or not. Many hosp outside of National Blood Bank, will accept without questions... Mad Cow doesnt apply to just crazy women here! HAHAHAH!:D

Yang Ada Bagi blood B+ 30x? 20 at least? then kena madcow TIU xlatotupai:cool:

I don't get it here? AFAIK all blood comes from Pusat Darah Negara .Donors blood will be screen for certain types of dieases. If any hospital needs extra blood they'll call the blood bank.If the patient is a donor for at least 2-3 times no replacement of blood is need.I was admitted to SJMC for dengue and need 5 pkts of blood transmission. They also ask me to replace the 5 packets but once i show them my Pusat Darah negara donor's card everything OK.FYI i have donated more than 50 times;)

Obviously she is not a regular blood donor like you, that's why hospital ask her friends and relative to replace those used blood. I don't know how exactly national blood bank work with hospital, but seem like every hospital operate a small blood bank themself and only when out of stock they request it from the national blood bank. Last time my sis-in-law admited for dengue as well, she used up the hospital reserve and her husband actually need to follow the hospital ambulance go to national blood bank to "purchase" few more pack of bloods. At the end, we need to replace those used packs to the hospital as well.

obviously all blood donation campaign was organise by Pusat Darah Negara,so the blood goes to them and screen.Once i ask them, only 30% of the blood are useable, the rest are tainted with VD,Hep.B etc....

You make it sound like 70% of blood donor are tainted with VD,Hep.B etc....

Actually, what happened is there is a very short storage period of fresh blood before expired. That's why most blood donated are use for some other purpose than blood transfer. Those expired blood (not suitable for human blood transfer) are usually used to produce antitoxic serum or other medical products (no wastage).

No,Jan, hospitals do carry out their own campaigns. I have attended those by GHKL, UMMC and PDN. UMMC also does its own screening as I have been to their facilities which is within the blood bank area. More likely 30% unusable than the other way round.

Oh...you mean private hospitals don't do blood tests of their own? I didn't know that..though I would normally not go to a private one to do blood donation unless there's an appeal.
