AFAIK, The act or law goes way back a long time (just like tinted glass for cars), I suppose it became more relevant in order to protect some vested interests, for moral or political reasons, its anyone's guess. Just that people either boh chup, no will, didn't bother, or thought its futile. Since its now initiated and call for support, I'm hoping its all lifted for the good of Malaysians.
As I hinted a couple of times, this land is OVER-regulated with rules, regulations and perhaps outdated laws, whether its for better or worse, do your own research and form your own conclusion.

I suppose this attempt is working around the policy of NOT abolishing the policy. NOT GOOD!

That shows and a big minus point as a repressive gahmen with NO CLEAR reasoning or current justification by a supposidely OUTDATED policy and law. It also points to protectionism of parties with vested interests. No better than when this land was colonized. Merdeka for what? Wasted!
The last time a communication device was banned was the radio, during the Japanese occupation. We're in the 21st century now.
