Parang teenages tried to rob a police officer and one of them got shot. Quite number of interesting comments noted. So do you think the Police officer did the right thing?

For those people who have been held at gunpoint/parang point or a dagger stuck in your ribs then the only word is shoot the fella and he deserves it 100%. If you cannot take the consequences then dont do the crime. I can still remember the time when I woke up with 4/5 fellas waving parangs and one of them standing on my bed holding me down. Sometimes i still have nightmares even though it has been 5 years ago

cml,

can understand your feeling... a friend of mine faced the scenario...

feeling helpless... and in his mind there;s only two things :
1. his family's safety
2. only if he has a gun.... bang!!!

It was a good thing I was alone. The fella standing on top of me wanted to pull my gold chain round my neck . As it was quite thick I told him bro, boleh jangan tarik? At least he removed it via the clasp. I asked for my ics/cards back and he gave it back to me. I told them to take whatever they wanted and they wanted to stuff somethng into my mouth but i told them i cannot breadth so they just tied me up instead. Horrible experience but I managed to keep my cool and not provoke them. But the feeling of helplessness and damn tulan because cannot do anything.

Well you had done it in style.

That's the way to deal with them & let them take what they want without harmng yourself

The teenager is dead (can't say anything to defend himself now)
The police still alive to tell story of what happened.
The parang..... hmm... interesting item heard in few recent police related stories.

In the story, the police tell the truth or not, I don't know. The parang belong to the teenager or the police, I don't know. All I can be sure is the teenager is being shoot dead by the police.

Very easy to say pro life when robbers are gunned down. Questions like the Cop should have read the the robbers the rights -" Ini Polis. ASP Mah Ling Fang. Letak semua senjata. Kalau tidak, I akan tembak cuba tembak di tangan or kaki . "

Think about the helpless victims who are terrorised by those parang robbers. Imagine your family been beaten ,slashed, raped and traumatised by the events. :p

Think about 6 parangs going after your neck where it is just as deadly as the pistol if you are that senior police officer who get slashed even with the gun and training at the police academy.

But the robbers would not be thinking when they faced with the helpless victim at thier mercy. Havent you heard even Grandmas or teenagers get gangraped right in front of thier families eyes with the mob mentality or high on drugs? And sometimes they are not even left to be alive!!!

From a ex mean chef who supposely be a wannabe meaner cop when comes to frying the robbery suspects either pursuing them in the streets or in the lockup taking statements.

Yes, there are so make up stories of bad corrupted cops, but then they are also good cops who is paid with salary to do the job. Btw, they have feelings, humanity and decency just like you and me. Probably, the ASP has the sons at the same age as the robbers. ;)

This is not a police operation or police chasing some robbers/kids. Nobody in their right mind would go around shooting at other people unless they were provoked/attacked. Like I said earlier unless you have been at the other end of a parang you would not know the fear, the fear of whether the fella would just slash you or not. If they were not happy with the way you talk to them or find not enough loot to satisfy them they can just slash you and there is nothing that you can do to protect yourself because you are not armed. If I have a gun I would shoot them. Too bad if they get killed in the process but if you threaten another person's life with a lethal weapon then you must be prepared for the consequences. I would not regret it one bit. If i had but one opportunity to turn the table on them and the parang is my hand I would bring it down on them with all my strength even if it means decapitating the fellas hand or head!!

Faced with 6 people; whether carrying parang or not, I would shoot first. If the report that he fired only 3 shots is true, then he is definitely not trigger-happy; just want to protect himself. And he tried to run away first.

If I were that cop, I be cool be saying " Make My Day " instead of running away. In fact, one of the top Cop formerly attached in Ipoh did just that years back. The whole gang just dropped thier parangs and probably have pooped in thier pants too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZz9h4zn_3s&feature=related

If criminals are armed, especially fireams, its shoot to kill if there's confrontation. No tok 1 tok 2. Problems solved. Illegal possession of a firearm, moreover used in confrontation with police, good as dead, otherwise its death sentence by justice served too.
But if with parangs or knives, its open to debate whether its trigger happy.

Good job, Police.

Could also a conspiracy theory where the mata dont like that guy or failed to get what he wants, shot him and place a parang beside him.

Unless we have CSI NY, we wont know the truth. Rite?

Most of us wake up, go to work and come home again without resorting to putting a knife or gun to anyones head.
So to those that do and end up dead, good.

I see nothing wrong with private individuals owning a gun.
I owned guns until i moved to Asia and can honestly say i never held up, threatened or shot anyone. Never even thought about it.

With a small population maybe Malaysia should consider doing as the Finn's do and arm all, perhaps the cowardly thugs would then think twice before attacking people.

Beg to differ. Have seen too many guns in the States where lives gets wasted when the hoods robbed Asian groceries and Chinese takeout joints from NJ to NYC, Philly to Camden. It is not surprising that the joints especially in the dark areas like North Philly to Camde or Bronx, you see resarant with steel bars with just a tiny hole to take out the food.
Despite that, I know of one owner who got shot point blank with 2 others workers dead at Camden.
Moreover, the guns usage has been abused and many innocents people get killed from Columbine High School to mugging in the street. Me too have experience with teenagers with guns roaming on the streets in Philadelphia.

I must have lived in a nicer part of the US ;)
There are always places not to live in every country.
Always 2 sides as well.

I would not want to see people in public with guns, but i do want the right to defend me and mine in my own home.

If these thugs knew their intended victim was prepared and equally armed, would they think twice? If just one thinks twice and does not rob or attack an innocent person, is it worth allowing private gun ownership?

Once again, it's back to training the next generation, full employment, decent salary, respected police force............?
Even in a prefect world there will still be missfits and nutters

In a high profile case about 25 years back, the son of Penang bank was shot point blank as the assaliant knew that he had a gun. He had been showing off the gun to his friends many times.

Gun itself is harmless, it's just that people behind the Smith & Wessons. Even I didnt trust myself with that as I was actually offered one as a farewell gift by my American friend to Malaysia. :o

HaHa, you are not going to hear anything about people not being shot are you?
I lived there for a few years, i visit at least once a year for the past 28 years and no sign of trouble for myself or anyone i know. I donít know anyone who has ever shot anyone so statistically in my case guns are safe.
Of course i have not met some drugged up gun toting redneck and unless they wander into my sphere I am unlikely to enter theirs.

I consider the US safer than the UK, have lived in both, owned guns so have experience to talk about.
I do miss a 3 day duck hunt, me and the dog, bang bang, roast duck :D
