I have this white-colour pest (not sure if it is white flies) that attack my lime plant. It causes my lime plant leaves to have black spots and look unhealthy. I didn't want to use any pesticide on the plant. Is there any way that is being used to control this pest?

I have similar problems, the leaves curl up etc.

I used Pests Oil by Yates

smash some garlic, mix pulp with water, shake like yr life depoends on it...then spray on the leaves. Works on any plant. :)

Aiyah, I don't drink so got no vodka or rum. Maybe I can try laxatives. :D That will teach them to eat my precious mangoes.

Oh? I was thinking of free fertilizer and moreover I do not need to distribute it around. Now I have to buy fertilizer and pay the gardener to put it. The tupai can do it freely mah. :o Err..I mean the other tupais.

I hv been reading a fair bit about Neem...here is an extract:

...Neem oil is known to be active on over 400 insect pests. It has for example been found to be effective against fleas, head lice, ticks, termites, plague locusts, mosquitoes and sheep blow flies. It is believed to be particularly active against chewing and sucking insects such as caterpillars and beetle larva...

...The first time I used Neem oil (1 oz. to 1 gallon of water + few drops of dishwashing liquid), I sprayed every plant, bench, walkway and under every bench. In a few days there was a definite improvement. I waited 2 weeks and sprayed again. I kept a close eye on the plants, no mealy bugs, scale and best of all the fire ants were gone. And no more slugs and snails...

...besides other varied uses, neem oil can be effective used as a pesticide and fungicide. It is helpful in repelling a number of pests like thrips, whiteflies, mealy bugs etc. Also, it can be used as a household pesticide for cockroaches, ant and houseflies....

Hope it helps...

BTW, i got a tip off to get neem leaves from a big tree in SS14/6H. Ask for permission if the hse is occupied. :)

Neem oil? That's new to me. Where to buy? Pray, tell! I want to massacre the ants in my garden.

Tupai, I got some Neem leaves from a house in SS19. Was told by a friend that Neem tree has some 'pantang-larang' where one is supposed to offer some coins as a gesture of gratitude to the tree when plucking the leaves for healing purpose. Or else, the tree may not grow well. So owners of neem tree will ask those who pluck the leaves/any parts of the tree, to do this. I abide by this pantang-larang when I asked the owner for the leaves.

I am also keen to know where do you get this neem oil. It is used as an organic pesticide by many gardening enthusiasts in Singapore. But over in Malaysia, I have yet to come across them in our nurseries.

RP.. while i was still living in SS17, the shoplot along SS17/1A had a shop that imports and deals in Neem products from India. They hv Neem toothpaste and so on, but i can't guarantee they are still there at the moment. If u are passing by on Jln Tujuan into SJ... just turn left into SS17/1A (bank in the corner of the row) and see if it is still around.

With so many pantangs.. no wonder my Neem plants didnt survive. I bought a few little plants here and was hoping they would grow. Alas. semua mati. I think i still have pictures of them somewhere in my laptop. :(
