Reported in Berita Harian that Dewan Bahasa dan Pusataka's printer and distributor of the primary school text books is in deep financial trouble. About 400 staff have been ordered to take no pay leave as the company cannot pay for their salaries and daily running of the company.

So, parents, don't be surprised if the primary textbooks for the coming 2012 school year will be in short supply. Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka has promised that supplies will be available and is trying to outsource other printers. But the legal wrangling between Dawama dan Dewan Bahasa may see a major problem next year.

Give them a gold mine also can go under. Cannot understand how they can do it. Well maybe they can. Used to know a lady who had a just taken a gomen contract to supply shoe polish. With that contract she went to the earth bank and got a few million for her to set up the plant to produce the polish. First thing she did was to change her car and set up an office with the carpets so thick that you cant even see your feet. We had to take off our shoes to enter her office. Subsequently when the polish did come out, the polish was not able to give a spit shine so the contract was terminated but the money was azlready all spent.

Are we surprised that this is normal in this country? Given a gold mine but somehow the gold runs out much faster than one can imagine. A friend told me that Dawamas is owned by a former Dewan Bahasa pengarah..the rest of the story you can fill in.

Should read the following fine print with a caveat - The final decisions either a suit or bail out lies with the Head and not the Deputy, as well as the rest of collective cabinet show of hands.

This is an unfair quote and statement - we are too much of a mindset society.

A 19 year old can in all likely hood do better than one of experience because of...attitude.

Attitude changes everything.

Of course the debacle is on the printing company on not on this 19 year old...

Why is it the ymca people never make noise when their ex tai kor's son was involved in taking over some listed companies and he was given loans more than a billion ringgit to fund the take over but fortunately fate intervened and they were caught with their pants down during the crisis. Still remember the fella was so proud and he was telling some bull story about how his son had a very good sifu to teach him how to invest!!

You are wrong. Do check & see how he was award the contract. The whole thing stinks cos there were no transparency by DBP in the award in the 1st place.

Even if I am wrong, it is wrong to lump all 19 year olds into the inadequate and incompetent category. Which is what your statement implies.

I do not support 'non-transparency' but I do support 'stating the facts correctly in its entirety'.

It is because our headlines spell all the wrong conceptions for the wrong sensationalization.
