just witnessed a lorry failed to stop at the lights rammed into the back of a Benz on the left lane and a City in the middle lane. Hope that it's cleared before the mad rush hour begins.

And its because idiots slow down to watch even minor accidents on the other side of the Penang Bridge, the authorities had to build a "fence-like" road divider to prevent traffic jams... summore want to take photos...

yes it is these people who compound the jam and probably cause another accident further back. and it's also very often that we see the jam is actually worse on the other direction!! this attitude really makes my blood boils

coming back to the accident, not too sure what the lorry driver was preoccupied with when the lights turned red. he just didn't brake. I guess the lorry driver was expecting the Benz to beat the lights too, as the lights has just turned red, when he swayed to the left lane from the middle lane.

this is probably a very typical example of drivers' blatant disregard of the law, or should I say they are not afraid of the enforcements. Red means stop - it's that simple. I can probably make a short movie on beating the lights if I set up a videocam at the lights just for a day.

I think the authorities needs to turun padang and evaluate this particular accident-prone location carefully. These are the salient points:-

1. Try driving from the old KFC side towards USJ. Just round the bend in front of the school (SS17 ?), can you see the traffic lights properly? Which one? - the one turning to Lick Hung or the one going straight on to USJ? How blardy big are the lamps? How fast or how distracted were you when negotiating this bend and looking out for the traffic lights? Can you really see the traffic lights ah when you are the first in queue at the junction? The blardy lights are situated at an awkward position!

2. I have always postulated that at traffic lights junctions, care must be taken with lights that stopped vehicles from turning right and allowing vehicles to drive on straight. Most motorists are nurtured - at this junction - to expect a green light for vehicles to drive on straight AND vehicles turning to Lick Hung are stopped temporary. The ONLY time both sides are RED is when pedestrain used the zebra crossing.

3. Back to above paragraph (1), can you see the traffic lights turned red? It is interesting to get the police reports of the motorists involved on this accident whether they said they saw the traffic lights CLEARLY or not. The incline of the road at this junction - going towards USJ - is down and up. Therefore, visibility is important. When you drive past this location see if you can see the traffic lights located high up clearly or not. Dey! Not all cars got sunroof dah!

4. This area is a THREE-LANE madhouse! Yet the road lines are pathetically, horribly non-existent! Come on! Any motorist passing this location has to concentrate on so many things. The least the authorities can do is pay some attention at this location and put on their thinking caps and make some changes.

Cheers!

Dude - road lines have gone extinct a long time ago in most places... You shud check out the 5 lane superhighway in Persiaran Harmoni, towards Putra heights... err.. I think it ONLY transforms into a 5 lane superhighway every morning

Now let's see if the traffic lights are changed to bigger ones and properly indicated. The present ones are separated and the arrows are not too clear.

Have all the lights clustered together. Have green arrows lights pointing straight ahead and turning right and red arrows lights likewise.

This would give a very clear picture of which direction (straight ahead or right) is a go or no-go..

Cheers!

my granny used to tell me not to let other people buy your number as other people will take away your luck making the chances of striking slimmer. so in an accident, when so many people buy that number, obviously, the chance is nearly zilch ;) :p
