Mahindra & Mahindra Scorpio. Fulfill all your requirements.

I saw it being driven from Tibet to Nepal (documentary only lah!). Can go through all kinds of road and no road also.

Well, if she doesn't mind using petrol - can try Avanza - 7 seater also can carry a lot of bags !! .... see it everyday in front of Lick Hung ;)

Avanza can be used as a 7 seater for kids only, hence plenty in front of Lick Hung. Even then there is very little space for luggage.

I was in S.Korea a couple of weeks ago and was on the road most of the time. Easily 90% were Korean cars and most were Hyundai and Kia. I did not see any cars breaking down, well actually I did see one but that was a conti car ;) So I guess they have come a long way ;) Anyway, Hyundai and Kia is the same family now.

The reason you see 90% of cars on Koraen roads are not because of reliability of Koraen-made cars! Its the same situation like in Bolehland. The import duty for a foreign-made car in Korea is 200% bro! Thats why you see lots of Korean cars on Korean roads and lots of Protons on Malaysian roads!

True up to a point. You see plenty of Korean cars on Malaysian roads but NO Malaysian cars on Korean roads ;)

Thats because of the EWS!*

*EWS - electrica window syndrome of Proton cars! :D

Avanza uses a 'ladder' chassis hence will not be comfortable for long distance and through bumpy roads/ potholes. Oso not really full sized 7 seater.

For RM170k, u can look out for new Serena, Starex or Stavic (Mercedes turbo diesel engine) or used Alphard, Estima or even Merc Vito

Yeah... early early already I recommend the Merc Vito. Diesel and powerful and damn luxurious and not priced like a Mercedes!

Hi,

First let's drill down to you budget. For a European car, of course its way over your budget. And in reality, they are not so cheap when it comes to repair.

So whats left only Japs, The Korean and not to forget the Harimau Malaya. So realiability issue comes into place.

Proton : Lots of minor accessories issue. Although they have improved the QC in many aspect. And the campro doesn't give much of a problem. Still I'm concerned about accessories. But the price is kinda cheap.

Toyota : Estima (6 seater), Alphard (6 seater), Innova (7 Seater), Avanza (7 seater). Personally tested all the above and Innova seems to be a good choice for you. The Kijang based platform is very reliable in terms of performance. Its a lorry based MPV. Kijang has been in indonesia market for more than 10 years now and widely known in Malaysia as Unser. Avanza, too small if all adult. Unless you are willing to sacrifice 1 seat, Estima will do you good.

Nissan : I believe Serena will be quite a good choice. So far not much complaints.

Kia : Trust me, the last you wana consider. The engine will start to drink like in desert after a few years. Korean MPV not that highly recommended.

I agree. I rental a Kia Carnival and recorded 8.5 km/l for highway driving!! I can only assume that city driving will be worse. Even my Camry can get 11km/l on the highway.

BTW, the Innova was the Unser replacement. In my opinion, the Innova is great value for money.... forget about the Estima and Alphard - they are too expensive for me. I am wondering when they will bring in a new Innova model?

I doubt there will be any new innova coming out for the time being. Not a hot seller anymore.

Thats precisely the reason why a new model should come out. I am also waiting for one with a diesel engine.
