When Mahathir's blue eyed boy took over he also said he is ashamed to see drivers open their door to pay toll and will improve the power windows. Now we are seeing a repeat performance

Power window mechanism isn't something new. I've seen great build quality window mechanisms that could assure it to be of great reliability for a long time, but this isn't the case with this brand. The technology isn't something new either. Other cars in the same era have them and failure wasn't to a high degree. When the problems surfaced and countless owners kena kau kau, it was never addressed properly. Then all the accusations or rumors start to embedd in people's minds that its VERY POOR quality equipment. Major defects and faults HAVE to be addressed from the moment it starts to get awry, and I think its like more than a decade till people just hate the issue and dent the brand reputation to huge extent. I think the problems lie deep with their OEM parts vendors all the while with quality and long term reliability is questionable.
I already experienced one PW performance defect in a spanking new Persona.(few months old lor) It just gives you the jitters. Its is coincidental or not? I'm not like a mass QC inspector of these cars. Tell me to trust their quality ah?...NEVER!

In all fairness, when people give an inch, we shouldn't take a yard.

Yes, we all know...that they deserve it. However, I believe that what goes around will eventually come around. So, we should be fair and call an apple and apple.

As for me, I don't think I will buy a Proton again...oops, maybe I have to for my kid's if that is all I can afford. Isn't it sad, we equate Proton to the Cheapalang car that we will buy as a LAST resort but not Top of Mind?

How to change perception? Abandon the protectionism and let them stand on their own feet. If they are capable, they will pull it off - just look to the Koreans and that is proof enough that market forces will either find you a way to shape up or eventually ship out (e.g. Rover).

I have a frienf who used to work with Proton. Seems that their power window mechanism parts are made using plastic, that's why malfunction so easy

PLASTIC (especially if cheap skate) in critical stress mechanicals WILL break!..sooner or later. The ones I've seen in the 80's are of SOLID metal alloy and IF they fail, its due to a electrical defect. It could happen that the plastics used in our local cars ain't the best, they can become brittle break or disintegrate prematurely.

Buying a Proton is supporting a project that has made other cars so much more expensive and unaffordable to Malaysians!

Also, it is a racist project because only a certain race are chosen as distributors and as vendors / suppliers.

I will never ever buy a Proton for this very reason!
