Accept locally made products, Dr M urges Malaysians

Wah, now part-time job as PROTON car salesman !! .... wonder how much is the commission ? (5% for every car sold ? ) :p :p :p

http://star-motoring.com/News/2011/Accept-locally-made-products,-Dr-M-tells-M-siansve.aspx

Put it this way, IF you had not being MAKING CRAP PROTON CARS, you should not being having CRAP PROTON SALES ... simple business sense ... :D

Till today, my Wira is having bloody power window-problem ... I am just waiting to switch over to MyVi (aka Daihatsu/Toyota rebadge) :p :D :D

Its not that we cannot accept locally made products. If the products have been well made for the price that is being charged, we can accept and would even prefer it because it is supposed to be cheaper. What we cannot accept is sub standard products that have been produced with inferior parts and components because someone needs to line their pockets and we are asked to live with it and buy it. We have been subsidizing their products for close to 30 years and yet they still ask us to bear with them. We cannot be treated like this anymore and expect to keep quiet about whilst they go around in their cayennes and 911s.

this is where he continue fail over and over again.. both as a car sales man and previously our PM..

today, his unability to see the root cause of a problem is still glaring... when will he open up his eyes to see that it is not about loyalty or nationalism..

when will he realise that when it comes to business, it has to be value for money?..

I'd like to think the "power window issue" have settled? WRONG!.. recently experienced a defective driver's side power window operation in a NEW PERSONA!... I never want to trust this brand, still expensive motoring and never confident of the quality for the money. My sis IL also dumped her 4 year old Savy for the other competition. It was costly repair throughout the years at authorized SC, just can't afford it no more. First the cooling sys failed, involving a full overhaul, then the ignition block kaput, then one by one macam macam...krazy kah!

wah... after so many years the powerwindow still got issue...

btw, our local so called manufacturing fields are mainly export of semi-completed good for developped countries to complete the final assembly (especially semiconductors & electronics)...
beside the products' quality, how to class these products ah...??

Power window issue:-

1) firstly the design is wrong
2) the parts supplier supplies inferior quality parts

normally I would repair it myself, which cost about rm20.

I do not think that the design is wrong. It is just that they choose to use inferior quality parts. A power window is a mechanical device. There is no rocket science involved. I used to have a citroen for more than 6 years with no problem to the power window and the movement was still very good till the day i sold my car. Corners were cut in their attempt to reduce costs so that more profits could go to them. Who cares if it breaks after a year. They can sell you a new set after that because the warranty period had expired. It happened to my waja three times in a row. It lasted about 50k (just beyond the warranty period) . THree times it was also like that. I cannot be that suai.

I think you were "cursed" by the ALMIGHTY PROTON ;) the moment you signed the contract to buy the Waja !!! But rest assured, you are not alone, SAME HERE   until I sold the Waja and swap it for a MyVi (3 years already) - not a single problem with the power window !! :)

The only way to get rid of the PROTON "suai" is to sell off the Proton Waja and don't ever buy another one !! Funnily, Perodua makes (assembles) pretty reliable cars :p

Malaysia doesn't learn a thing about past disaster or mistakes, not amazingly it goes on and on. So do you expect this manufacturer to learn things and offer near ultimate quality to its own local customers, but this isn't happening. They've been protected for quarter of a century now and there's NO indication anything will change. So there you have it, you buy this brand, YOU'RE SCREWED (my sis IL kena enough! ) and to your risk and peril!
WHAT YOU PEOPLE CAN DO to change things is NOT TO BUY NEW CARS for a few years...see what happens!
But this is like asking an ant to rape an elephant! :D
To sum it up...that industry is PROTECTED with unjust policies for 20 over years and you tell people to ACCEPT local product?... its absurdity at its best!

A design flaw will exert unnecesary strain on certain parts... so yes, product design is important for mechanical parts. As for defective parts, yes better and stronger material can sometimes compensate a design flaw.. long enuf that when it failed, ppl don't complain much about it... "ok mah, more than 5 years only break"

AFAIK, numerous parts are NOT designed to last and frequently fail prematurely, especially those that have most plastic content. The other local brand isn't exactly immune to this either, especially with that smallest 660cc car. I've inspected numerous of these local OEM parts manufactured (I'm not speaking about those OEM'ed by the likes of Japan Denso or equavalent) and they're VERY QUESTIONABLE. A friend tried to renew some Wira dashboard parts and the dash was VERY BRITTLE, (touch a bit and it breaks)...he gave up!
Sorry folks!... You're paying BIG BUCKS for questionable quality...its NOT ideal like if you'd think its economical to change car every 5 years!.. Blame your gahmen policies for your perils!

I think that the buyers have subsidised proton to the tune of about 20k ringgit for every car that is bought. In the open market a car with this type of quality, branding would probably sell for about 40k. We are paying about 60k for a waja. That 20k goes into the inflated component costs, all the sub and sub sub contractors of proton and we have been doing that for more than 20 years. Yes, they have gotten used to the looting and we have this fella still trying to sell us their outdated and inferior products by urging us to be patroitic.

From what I heard, Proton is doing something about the rampant 'undertable taking' culture within it... Departments which deal with outside vendors are more closely scrutinised....

Local produced parts are NOT cheap! Malaysia isn't with cheap labor and operating costs anymore. Why do you think those famous names have all cabut from this land to somewhere else long ago? So I guess OEM manufacturers just make and supply cheapo parts and get away with it all to survive whatever. As I said, you buy, its to your peril if any later on.
Even manufacturing ice cream isn't a viable venture in this land...cheaper to impot!...Walls, Magnolia...ring a bell ornot?
I really cringe with fear when some manufacturer sayz some model will have more and more % local content.. its just NOT the same as its original model made in Japan or exported to USA. Ok. ok..maybe I'll trust THE ENGINE to a higher degree, but it stops right there. Boneshaker in 5 years time.
Funny thing is, Lotus-Proton developed the CAMPRO engine, but never used in the UK Lotus models which have a souped up Toyota engine. The Campro engine is for you to suffer at your peril. I don't find it that great either, still a noisy revving iron.

For one the local manufacturers do not have economies of scale , plus the fact that there is a lot of padding in the prices to take of everyone. So we are paying for their inefficiences and corrupt practices.

And so WHO ARE THE FOOLS buying these new vehicles at whim?.. nothing else better to do or no where else to spend hard earned money ah?
Oh well...for quarter of a century now, you rakyat are all BIG FOOLS to pay high auto prices cornered by protectionist policies and on top of it tell you to support local products?... NAH!... YOU FOLKS DON'T BOTHER ABOUT IT ALL... as with those rakyat across the SC sea just shown.
