for those of you who are not aware, spammers now use computer programs to register all over the world, trying by chance to populate as members to places like our Forum which allow the freedom to post online. These are the "robots".

For your info, our Forum site receives at least 300 registrations for membership per day ! I know because I had counted a few times and that is the average. Now, that is not 300 individuals... since robots are involved, we get multiple registrations from the same source.

Robot registrations are very scary - the moment their registrations are approved, the computers will immediately send spam over and the forum site can be filled with links to pornographic websites (with porn pictures in the post as well) almost immediately.

You may ask why we are free of such spam? That is because we shut off the auto-registration that we used to have. Now all registrants are put on a queue and I will check the queue when I am free to accept the registrations from what I guess to be real people. Sometimes I am too busy, so registrants may even have to wait a week before they can go on the Forum.

So what about all those 'zombies' hanging around "Viewing User Control Panel/Viewing User Profile"? They are registrants but still in the queue and not yet approved. So long as I do not approve their registration, they cannot participate and post to the Forum. So we are safe. I will remove them later

Big Brother Is Watching You

Just Kidding :D

Any idea when this started?...This is most likely what this is all about....

Someone in the Internet Marketing industry has discovered that this Forum allows 'Profile Links' and has promoted us to their list, or another probability is that we are currently well positioned in a search in for 'Forum Profile Links'....or even in a Bot search in some software that provides the service of searching for links.

Plus...these days Google wants links to websites that show diversity in IP address as like from around the world....it is as if your site has people who like it from across the globe.

These links are valuable for marketers as it helps their sites move up in the Search engines...considering that USJ Forum has a Page-rank 4 :)

Signature links are better, but then Mods keep an eye out on them and may request removal....Profile links often go ignored :D

Sheesh...how did I miss it....sometimes we just cant "see the trees from the woods" ;)

Edit:
Chang beat me by a few minutes to the post :) ....there you have it....he explained whats happening...mine has the reason why it happens.

That explains why a few of us parents have to ask "currymee" via emails to help us get registered as forum members :) We got caught in the queue.

HaHaHa, I assure you the funny zombie IDs that you see registering and changing their profiles (but inactive) are all from some foreign country. To be on the safe side, I would only accept local registrations although I had accepted those from this region which include Singapore and Brunei.

We need to remember that it is not necessary to register to the Forum to read the contents - anyone can do so on the web ... so we have a lot of "guests". The only setback for guests is that they are unable to participate in the Forum. If the SB wants to watch the activities and comments here, they can do so without registering. By the way, there are also a lot of registered members who do not participate (zero posts to the forum). Hence, we are still being "watched" all the time, regardless.

Beg to differ. For those active forumers who posted thread are usually on the social eco politico issues which affect us all the Malaysian1. And there are many viewers that keep looking at ther posts with intense interest. Of course on the polical issues, high chnaces of getting the BANANA treat and holidays at the plantation 5 stars resort.
Sex issues can be intense but usually shortlived and potong within minutes if discovered by the one eye. ;)
Food - There is a whole page devoted for those Wai Sek and those who would thrash those outlets like kopitiam service or issues of over charging or mean chefs who do not leave up to their expectation. :D

Different people looks for different things on the forum - personally, my main interest lies in the Cari Makan and SJKC Lick Hung school thread. The Lick Hung thread has almost 200-300 viewers per day  but active participants are a few Std 2 parents only :(
