After having this number for the past 9 years, and having converted to prepaid about 4 years ago, I have finally decided to terminate the fixed land line.
Still in the balance - about RM 150 (from all those top-ups) which I will need to use up by sometime next week.
We are paying every month for a service that we do not use (although it is very cheap at RM 2.50/month - prepaid - super extension plan) and rather than spend money unnecessarily, it is time to reign in the expenses.
We need to batten down as the bad times are around the horizon...every penny saved is a penny earned.

You should also spend more time eating at home than at the restuarants, that where we spend the most of the money these days. A plate of char koteow shd not cost more than RM 3.00. because if you do the costing the keteow, eggs and whatever else just over a ringgit, sow why charge RM 6?

Fuyoh !! Which CKT shop charges RM6-00 ?
I thought the "standard" rate at the moment in SJ/USJ is around RM4-00.

Yes, correct. Eating at home saves some money...but it depends on the quality of food that you cook - it may end up more expensive.
However, the superfluous is what we need to eliminate - that is paying for something that we do not use. If we can reduce and minimize these, then the money saved can be put for better use...such as buying better quality food, etc.
How many of us actually use a land line anymore, especially in this age of 'free' internet phone calls?

Offices or business premise will still continue to have land line for fax machine still depended for their purpose and intent. Fax machines are still with PSTN type interface and will need the land line for comms.
Actually can save money by converting fax machine to PC based with fax software and internal modem. Fax consumables can be a costly affair if its used in bulk. Trouble is, not many shops sell the modem nowadays due to it being an outdated peripheral.

There are many such as Skype, MSN, etc. Computer to computer and computer to phone.
As for land lines, only offices/businesses will use them. But for residential?

People still subscribed to ADSL internet services or dial-up will still need the land line. It can't do without it. Unless one have entirely no use for fax or land line calls, ultimately upgraded to unifi, only then can do away with land line. Trouble is, unifi is an EXPENSIVE affair.

Fully fully agree on this statement - UNIFI IS AN EXPENSIVE AFFAIR! However, with the advent of internet broadband from P1, YTL, and a few other players, you can actually get internet without the need for any landlines. However, their speed can be inconsistent with some of them suffering from the ASTRO syndrome - rain attenuation.
Luckily for us, technology is coming online mainstream quite rapidly. Hopefully we can enjoy these over the next coming years.

Technology come, fine..but its all in the pricing. Its not cheap nor entirely affordable to just about everyone. There's just no real competition to lower prices now. Do you see any big indication in the near future? I don't. They don't even want to quietly upgrade from 1mb to 2mbits or more even if you're loyal for a decade. NO FREE LUNCHES and make hay while there's still sun is their game. Do you see unifi snapped up like hot cakes? Nope! FAR FUTURE perhaps..welcome to expensive bolehwood! :D

Just got my cheque yesterday! Wow, talk about super duper efficient in REFUNDING deposit and excess payment! And...no, they don't use Maybank or CIMB or BSN or any of the GLC banks...they use...CITIBANK!!!
No wonder they are efficient. Whether TM appreciates this efficiency is another matter all together.

One more drawback if entirely using unfi phone and done away with land line.
If you face a electricity blackout, NO home phone to anywhere....only your cellphone. I reckon businesses can't afford their phone to be down at anytime, unless you've some form of electricity backup.
