Is he patriotic or unpatrotic? Or is he a parrot or not a parrot?
So it is not only the chinese who are drawn to the lure of singapore or rather singapore is non discriminatory when it comes to recruitment of talents. Can any of you see a glc getting a singaporean to the board?
for sembcorp to take him in, he must be well respected and good.
as a non exec director in singapore comes with responsibility and accountability.....unlike in boleh land.
In malaysia the glcs will only take the recycled politicians, those who have lost but have angkated many people in the past, they will be rewarded with a board post.

Of course TSHM is not patriotic. He's never in the army. Anyone not in the army is not patriotic. Remember what our Defence Minister said?
I too m not patriotic cos I was never in the army. I no like guns and cannons and stuff related to guns, cannons and bombs.
It shows how fast Singapore will grab our unappreciated talents.

Tan Sri Hassan Merican is not the only Malay top gun being appreciated in the Little Red Dot City... there are many in Neptune Orient, Temasek, SembCorp, NatSteel, Mount E Medical Centre, Stamford Medical Group and even in The Straits Times. There was a list published in one of their local blogs sometime back...

CORRECT CORRECT - he was never in the Army, so UNPATRIOTIC like the other 99% Malaysians !!! :D
He is a chartered accountant so I suppose the most offensive weapon he has used would be his pen!!

This is an offensive comment. Totally uncalled for - I have half a mind to ban you for making such derogatory comments about someone whom you may not have even met ... This is simply character assasination

I am not a fan of Petronas. I still remembered until today the unpleasant experience during an interview for a scholarship, and I rejected Petronas Carigali offer as a Drilling Engineer when they offered me the job in my final semester. I don’t pump at Petronas retail station and do not purchase any of their petroleum products. In the early days of NS highway when Petronas stations are the only station along the highway, I went to the extreme to detour to small town like Seremban to pump petrol just to show my disguise to the company.
But as a national oil company, Petronas is among the best and likely is the best. All the state-own/national oil companies in the world are either a complete screw-up like Pertamina, or become the private ATM for individual/family (Venezuela, Russia, Middle East countries).
Their Management is professional – knowing the limited hydrocarbon reserves in Malaysia, they have ventured overseas long time ago to ensure reserve replacement ratio and stability. Their brand “Petronas” and the logo are internationally recognized as a premium brand. One good example is their management under the former CEO, Hassan Merican made a bold decision to sponsor Mercedes F1 Team, and didn’t yield to pressure to subsidize the apanama cronies to own a 3rd class F1 team.
Petronas Twin Tower and KLCC is a success especially for KLCC. You can’t find the “1st class building but 3rd class management/maintenance” mentality in KLCC.
No doubt, Petronas had been used to bail-out many GLC but despite all the big write-off, it is still the biggest tax contributor in bolehland
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Hassan Merican is the person behind all the milestones Petronas achieved.
As a result, he “retired” and his successor is someone older than him.

BTW, speaking of Petronas, is it true that Protons run "best" or more efficiently using Petronas Primax compared to other petrol ?  I got a few mechanics telling me this story but if you drive a foreign marque, go Shell, they said ...

I doubt and I think it is just individual physiological preference.
All brands sell the same fuel (same specification as compliance to MS Standard). The difference is the 1)type of additives and the 2)concentration of the additives.

Precisely, their argument is that because Proton is such an "inferior" car, any good petrol (with kar liew), say, Shell or Caltex, will cause a "drag" in performance while "normal" (read: lousy, in mechanics' parlance) is OK for Protons.
It seems the kar-liew Shell, Caltex etc is "too hor-liow" for Protons until the performance suffer ....

Wow, this is something new to me.
If this is true and using the same analogy, then modenas bike or other kabchai will kaput if pump with the "hor liew’ petrol….
Btw, the cap tiram are not necessary “hor liew”. It is widely accepted as “hor liew” because of the power of branding.
I think that some of these oil companies share facilities and i have seen shell/petronas logos together on the same storage tank. I think that if is ron 95 probably it is the same. Maybe shell has a different formulation for their v power but ron 97 should be the same. I think that it is all psychological, all in the mind.

They used the MOTOR OIL analogy when I told them that Primax also kar-liew. They mentioned that although FULLY SYTHENTIC Motor oil is the best, not all cars can use it due to age, wear and tear and also manufacture (precision in engine manufacture esp pistons, gasket fitting ... ) - so while FULLY is keng, you will be wasting the money if you use it on an old car as the oil is "too fine" and "too hor-liow" until performance suffers ... so as mechanics, when a car ages, they actually recommend "stepping down" from FULLY to SEMI and finally plain old mineral oil. (Note/caveat: Unless you know the mechanics for donkey years and have become friends, they will keep on selling you FULLY SYTHENTIC oil - better profit margin  )
Likewise, they argue about petrol .... Protons use Petronas ... others recommend Shell etc .... I ask about wifey's MyVi, they said so far still 100% JAPANESE engine, go Shell (aka non-Petronas) ...
BTW, they have got nothing for/against any petrol company - just advice to me to know which gives my car and wifey's the "best" performance.

Shell is VERY strong in downstream marketing and is the early bird in Asia.
ExxonMobil and bp are strong in upstream and revenue is more significantly contributed from upstream.
What I can say for sure is – there is no difference between the petrol in bolehland except for the octane number, either 95 or 97.
It will be a different story if the oil company wants to sell boutique fuel which is not happening now in bolehland.
For lubricant, I can’t comment as I don’t know much about the lube technology. I chose Castrol lubricant because Castrol only concentrates in the lube business, not anything else.

Castrol ex-Marketing Director just died 2 weeks ago, Sagamihara-san, of bladder cancer at age 57, 1 year after retirement. Good buddy and ex-colleague of mine from Nestle.
Back to topic, I use only Castrol for the very same reason, they only do lube and its their core and only business so they have to know the stuff well, thus I place my trust there...

I dont think that she wants to have a face off with the old man now. I dont think that she has forgotten about his take on her.

Condolence to his family.
It is sad to know he passed away at 57 years old. It should be the time to enjoy good retirement after all the hard work.
My former employer, bp has a business philosophy of being either No.1 or No.2 in the market they ventured.
That’s why bp exited from downstream fuel in Malaysia but still maintain their presence in lube business.
And it is not difficult to figure out which brand contributes to the sustainability of their lube business.

I don't think it's character assasination since it's a hypothetical remarks. It's the 'what-if's' he's man of no honour, similar to the other comments "He's not patriotic cos he's not in the army". Think it's blown out of context.

CASTROL belongs to BP ?
Yes, Bro
bp acquired Castrol in 2002. In fact, a small brand called Duckhams has been with bp for a long time.
a bit of history:
In 2000, BP Amoco acquired Arco (a petroleum refining & retail company in US) and changed its name to bp. With the acquisition, bp became the second largest oil company after ExxonMobil.
2000-2006 was the peak time of bp plc under the leadership of Lord John Brown. After he asked to leave (he gave false alibi to protect his gay partner in a court hearing), lots of things changed.
Remember the bp CEO with a boyish face -Tony Hayward who was summoned to Capital Hill and bombarded by congressmen over the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. This will never happened when John Brown is around.
I saw the grilling live from CNN. Gosh, I am sure John Brown will never let this happen to him.
