Today, I was stopped by a traffic policeman. When he asked for my license, I said my license is in my IC and he should have a machine to read it.
He angrily told me that not all policemen carry those card readers. Then I argued that it is their fault and not mine. He scolded me for trying to 'teach' him.
Is this the type of police we have ?

I think you should have made a police report.
I think the mindset of "the onus is on you to prove otherwise" have to change where the police is NOT always in the right. If you do nothing, then nothing changes and it'll all continue as if nothing happened.
Its ludicrous to think that the govenment have implement something advanced moreover still bugged with shortcomings (considering its around and legal for quite sometime) to address any issue, yet YOU'RE at their mercy of being penalized for it all.

Don't tell me we'd have to go to "CERTAIN" post offices to renew? :(
I think I've read somewhere people insisting to still have your NRIC and Driving license seperately. In Bolehland, NOT everything is seen as efficient and easy.

Why not BSLee, why not? They came out with new RM50 note design and only after the release of the notes, they found out that ATM machines cannot accept nor disburse the notes. That delayed further release of the new RM50 notes and they have to quickly print the "old" RM50 notes to make up for market shortage / needs.
In the meantime, they have to rent warehouse and put a whole army platoon with M16s and armed to the teeth to guard the new RM50 notes which now could not be released.... until all commercial banks spend millions to realign their ATM dispener machines.
Selamat Datang to Bolehland, macam macam pun boleh, macam macam pun ada... :D

curious, how u renew license? with the ic?
When I renew, l just renew the driving license and then have them update my IC info. Then I leave my driving license at home.
In this electronic age, it is silly to bring so many cards on your wallet. My wallet is already bursting with so many cards and money.
Anyway, all government info should be stored on the card including medical history, allergy etc. (in case of car accidents etc)
I even use my IC for 'touch n go' purposes. :D

I could say 8 or 9 out of 10 people stopped by policeman will momentarily be in a state of panic and cannot think straight. Very few are the exception. Two, Some common sense will prevail and strongly suggest not to argue, be meek as it just happens that it'll likely be stressful and time consuming to be the winner in this situation. Its unfortunate or quite natural the past 50 years that any policeman will perform the unmistakeable superiorty act or intimidate you. Fairness isn't a known forte. Only the Almighty knows if more nasty things may happen to you, worst of all dragged to the Police Station and detained till dunno when. Anything MAY or CAN HAPPEN in this land lah. I could even fear that polis here can charge you for ANYTHING. Back to square one..THE ONUS IS ON YOU TO PROVE OTHERWISE. You have guarantees this isn't real, I've none for that matter. You don't get your free phone call or a lawyer assigned to you. Thats TV land.

Puc,
Remember "Touch n Go" recently said that everyone must change their TnG cards coz they have a shelf-life of 10 years and after that, it may not be so effective anymore - so be warn not to "exhaust" the shelf-life of the all singing and dancing MyKad through over-use :D :D
Anyway, as far as I can see, sooner or later, the all-singing and dancing MyKad will be "relegated" to just good old fashion albeit more expensive IC !!!! if police and others start having "reading" problems :p

Putting your driving license into the MyKad sound like a good idea but in practice there are lots of problems.
1. If you get involved in an accident, your insurance company would want a copy of your driving license. You cannot photocopy your MyKad and say it is there. You can probably go to JPJ and they will print out details of your license for free. But do you really want to make a trip to JPJ for that.
2. To test drive a car, the dealer would also want a copy of your license. How??
3. You are likely to forget the expiry date of your license. I have friends whose licenses expired for months before they reliased it (and thats with a separate license)!!

TOTALLY DISAGREE. This bolehgomen is actually very smart. Much thought had been put into 'invest/buy' inferior products (from mykad chip to submarine to armoured vehicle to automobile engine factory to stadium&turf to railway coaches to national service camps to lotsa other things) ONLY to replace/refurbish/repair/recon/rewhatever@abigprice, all of them in a short period of lifespan. So beli sekali lagi and some1 & apanama & keluarga & those with kable in the gomen dapat more moolah...no?
Conniving innit?

Or you want to rent a car and need to show your driving license...how? That's why I refuse to have anything extra in mycard right from day 1. I could only think of all the disadvantages..

This is a serious allegation. If there was a cyber PDRm lurking here, they will investigate you.
The cops no matter how lowly ranked, 99.9% will stop the car when the driver had committed an offence or seemingly about to commit an offence (suspicious character lah).
Your insinuation of makan suap, is secondary as it is the 'effect'... the 'cause' initially came from the alleged 'offender', in this case pucman's action causing him to be stopped.
If 1fear cops or in this case, fear paying $ummons, then DONT commit any traffic offence...follow the undangundang and all roadusers will be safer too!

You see, this is more or less what I do hear as a general sentiment (whether they follow or not I don't know) and a fear.
Meanwhile have the gomen come up of late with any assurance to address any shortcomings that'll only people in awkward position than neccessary. Or its still a culture that its the responsibility and onus of any rakyat to come clean?

I disagree. The driving license is still stored in a safe place at home for this sort of 'rare case' of accident. It can be shown to the insurance company if needed.
Don't you guys get it, the driving license data is duplicated into the IC.
Even if it is not, shouldn't the insurance company have a card reader ? Even our thumbprints are stored in the IC, how to verify it is actually you without a reader ?
Most importantly, we don't need to carry it everyday. ;)

If I recall from previous posts, you're the one who speeds and break the law. I told you I usually drive below 80 kph even on highways.
I obey the law all the time except when my mind is caught up (happens to everyone) and didn't see a 'non broken' line divider and do a 'cross the line'. Furthermore, I haven't seen anyone who hasn't unintentionally broke any laws including you.
But then I was willing to pay the summons and not offer any bribes.
The issue here is the rude policeman who should have carried a reader but didn't and his arrogant attitude. Don't go off topic.
Foreign country policemen are much more civilised even if we break major traffic offense except when we kill someone. :o

had exited subang toll and decided to pop into PLUS office to replace my TnG card which expires in Nov (was told it wud expire in Nov when I was topping up the cash value in the old card) when I remembered that my MyKad stored value oso very low...hmm... found out that my MyKad TnG function is kaput! (and effectively lost somewhere in the region of RM10 in stored value in it!!! )
When home - stuck it into the astro decoder to read the chip ... alas, oso kaputted...
Guess gonna have'ta be heading to JPN soon before I really get tagged as "something else!"

First time, I heard Mykad going haywire.
Mykad is supposed to be a very secure and sophisticated chip resistant to tampering. After all, it is the most important card that you can possess.
I lost more than RM10 when my old TNG card expired without me being aware of it, that's why I topup Mykad with no expiry date now.

Mr Pucman, what USJ27 said is true about the T&G card can go haywire, mine sometimes can read and other times cannot. As a remedy, i changed the ic all together with new picture & address :o

I cannot drive on right lane at 80 kph on highway when most people are breaking the speed limit driving at above 100 kph even on non highways.
I usually drive at a safe limit of 60 kph on the left. 80 is my maximum speed on highway if I want to overtake somebody.
