RM310 to repair a washing machine only worth RM700!

My Samsung washing machine broke down and we just wanted to get a quote to see whether it was worth repairing. Called ******* Refrigerator & Air-cond Engineering and was told that it would cost RM20 just for a look and see visit.

I was out running errands when the repairman came. Hubby was busy with 6 month old baby. Repairman said that he had to open up the washing machine to check. Hubby kept asking how much it would cost and thought he would quote us before repairing. However, hubby could not supervise him 100% as baby needed attention.

One hour later, he gave us a bomb - he said washing machine fixed but it would cost RM310!! Too late, we had to pay.

Be careful of this repair service.

My Samsung washing broke down a few times but each time I would call Samsung service centre. Parts that needed to be changed esp the microprocessor board can be quite costly. If I am not mistaken the board cost me RM270 and that was about 8 years ago. No point in calling 3rd party service technicians cos they would still need to buy the replacement parts from Samsung Sales & Service.

I had removed the name of the company. It is damaging and unless you can show an intent to cheat, the display of a company name would be tantamount to accusation and slander which I believe you could be taken to court. Since you are hiding behind a nick on this Forum, I as the administrator may be sued and i am certainly not going to take your rap.

Furthermore, as what marco has said, the repair cost could be real and the only problem you faced was probably the mistake of the technician in not checking with you before doing the job.

Just an aside ... when my microwave oven went on the blink recently, we decided not to send it for repairs. I had determined that there was a fault with the main microwave device and any change to that part would be not cheap. Furthermore, since the oven was already more than 15 years old, it made more sense to get a new one.

Waa, you must really take very good care of your microwave. :) Mine never last more than 5 years. Care to give some tips?
