<font size="+1">Maurice Gibb dies</font>
LONDON -- Bee Gees pop star Maurice Gibb died early on Sunday, his family announced here.
The 53-year-old bass player and singer with the British group had suffered a heart attack on Thursday while undergoing emergency abdominal surgery after collapsing at his home in Miami, Florida.

A statement released by his family said: 'It is with great sadness and sorrow that we regretfully announce the passing of Maurice Gibb this morning.
'His love and enthusiasm and energy for life remain an inspiration to all of us. We will all deeply miss him.'
Along with twin brother Robin and older brother Barry, Gibb founded the Bee Gees in 1958. They became one of most successful pop acts of the 1970s, writing dozens of hit songs as well as film soundtracks such as Saturday Night Fever.
The Gibb family moved from Britain to Australia in 1958 and soon became child stars in their adopted country.
They returned to Britain in 1967 where they soon had a number of hits, including Massachusetts.
In the early 1970s, they split and reformed but a series of slick disco hits, Jive Talking, Nights on Broadway and You Should be Dancing established them as big stars.
It produced a series of international hits such as Stayin' Alive and Night Fever.
Their last studio album, This Is Where I Come In was in 2001. They had been working on a new disc when Maurice was taken ill. The group owns a recording studio in Miami. -- AFP
