CAP president and veteran campaigner of consumer rights SM Mohamed Idris issued a press statement in Penang yesterday with the following warning to Muslims and all vegetarians:

"JAKIM and the Chemistry Department have tested the ghee and found it to contain doubtful elements and therefore cannot be consumed by Muslims and other vegetarians."

Wow... there is only one other premium brand on the shelf, right? The ones used by the mamak stores are the ones in big plastic containers cheaper type...

Some brands are mixed with palm oil like "Ghee blend" brand.

Some brands whose labels say "Pure Ghee" are Enrico as well as "Cow and Calf". Apparently, the contamination came about when packaging was done here to reduce cost. Then greed came along with that and locals had added other "things" into the ghee and contaminated it. Someone found out about it and informed CAP and JAKIM. JAKIM must have done their own tests and removed the certification unless QBI can proof the purity of the ghee they sell.

Yes, thanks for the feedback and info. I heard the manufacturer in Australia already testified there is no contamination but apparently the 'contamination' happens locally... anyway how did lard get into a factory meant to repack halal ghee oil?

No idea. Maybe it camouflages well with ghee. Apparently they only add an unnoticeable amount of whatever it is they add. Susah nak detect!!!
