person staying upstairs was murdered. ... HaHaHa, how can blood ooze through the floor like that? If so, the floor would not support anything above that room and simply crash through la.
Firstly, no one said it was the Dr's blood ... it was only fresh blood. I would say Dr Amanapa probably used something to shoot at a lizard on the ceiling (it was right above him), killing it and splattering its blood on the ceiling. The cicak of course was not there anymore because it would have dropped dead on the floor.
Dr. Amanapa must have a hobby of shooting cicaks with his rubber bands.
Why lizard? Venus mentioned Cicakman earlier didn't he? :D

Sorry, Loderunner. I'm afraid Mr Chang is correct about the floor. It just isn't decent for blood to ooze through the floor like that.

Following your interesting observation, I googled this question and found an assortment of answers. Two sites came out with a variation of blue/green. One mentioned copper as the compound transporting the oxygen and thereby giving it its bluish green color. Another site reported that the color is due to the existence of bile in their blood. So this is getting interesting.
This little guy's been hanging around (literally) in our house for generations and yet we knew so little about him.
You said the remains were red. Could those be the organs, liver, perhaps? The googled report mentioned that the bluish green color is very faint because copper is not very efficient at carrying oxygen.
But thanks for your feedbacks. Now we know how little we know. :) :) :)

I have dissected cockroaches before in school. Their so called blood is known as haemocoel and is milky white in color. When I googled, the feedback was 'colorless'. :confused: :confused: ...now I'm wondering if that googled report on lizard blood can be relied upon.
Guess the only way to find that out for sure is a dissection. I've lost my dissecting tools. Anyone? :) :) :)

Ok, correction on my previous answer.
Today is 1/1
Yesterday, 31/12 : Lily's birthday so she turned 10 years old.
The day before yesterday: Lily was nine years old.
This year by 31/12 (Lily's birthday), she'll turn 11 years old.
Next year by 31/12, she'll become 12 years old.
Since u didn't mention which date of next year, assume by end of the year. :)

If you look at the pics, you can see why the curved segments orientate as they do. It is clear from the pictures - that was why I gave the pictorial answer. Do you see that the segments maintain their positions with the movement across the pentagram?

Since the previous puzzle so easy... let me come out with one more for 2 of you to think first
Find the ages of Chang, Currymee, Quietstorm, Venuspop and Akiyoshi if .....
Chang + Currymee = 33 years
Quietstorm + Venuspop = 95 years
Akiyoshi + Chang = 72 years
Chang + Venuspop = 87 years
Akiyoshi + Currymee = 73 years
kwchang
17-08-2010, 10:57 AM
Chang + Currymee = 33 years
Quietstorm + Venuspop = 95 years
Akiyoshi + Chang = 72 years
Chang + Venuspop = 87 years
Akiyoshi + Currymee = 73 years
The solution --
Chang + Currymee = 33
So, Chang=33-Currymee
Akiyoshi + Chang = 72
we get
Akiyoshi + 33 - Currymee = 72
Akiyoshi - Currymee = 72-33 = 39
while Akiyoshi + Currymee = 73 years (from above)
Therefore
2(Akiyoshi)=39+73=112
So
Akiyoshi=112/2=56
substituting back...
Chang=72-Akiyoshi = 72-56 = 16
Currymee = 73-Akiyoshi = 73-56 = 17
Venuspop = 87-Chang=87-16= 71
Quietstorm=95-Venuspop = 95-71 = 24
:)
birdy
17-08-2010, 11:00 AM
The solution --
Chang + Currymee = 33
So, Chang=33-Currymee
Akiyoshi + Chang = 72
we get
Akiyoshi + 33 - Currymee = 72
Akiyoshi - Currymee = 72-33 = 39
while Akiyoshi + Currymee = 73 years (from above)
Therefore
2(Akiyoshi)=39+73=112
So
Akiyoshi=112/2=56
substituting back...
Chang=72-Akiyoshi = 72-56 = 16
Currymee = 73-Akiyoshi = 73-56 = 17
Venuspop = 87-Chang=87-16= 71
Quietstorm=95-Venuspop = 95-71 = 24

So
Akiyoshi=112/2=56

the solution is by adding 2 numbers on one row and the sum is in the row immediately below and so on for each row. Let me name the columns A,B,C,D reading from left to right and the rows 1,2,3,4,5 reading from top to bottom
The cells will be
A1,B1,C1,D1
A2,B2,C2,D2
A3,B3,C3,D3 ... and so on
to get the numbers in A2,B2,C2,D2, you do the following
B1+C1 = A2
A1+C1 = B2
B1+D1 = C2
C1+D1 = D2
and so on for the other rows
therefore, the last row will be
95, 97, 88, 93
Dervish
17-08-2010, 05:16 PM
the solution is by adding 2 numbers on one row and the sum is in the row immediately below and so on for each row.
B1+C1 = A2
A1+C1 = B2
B1+D1 = C2
C1+D1 = D2
and so on for the other rows
therefore, the last row will be
95, 97, 88, 93
concur.
But I think I wouldn't be able to explain it so beautifully :D:D

Teng-kew for the 'beauty' part :D
BTW, do notice for the first matrix puzzle, there is a sequence both vertically and horizontally
using the
A1,B1,C1,D1
A2,B2,C2,D2 ... format, we get -
horizontally, from left to right, A1+1=B1, B1+2=C1, C1+3=D1 and so forth
vertically, from bottom to top, A4+1=A3, A3+2=A2, A2+3=A1 and so on....
This is a beautiful 2X2 sequence

First and last digit reverse, therefore 8 is first 7 is last? Birdy?
Next, I am keeping 6 and 4, because both adds up to 10 (as in 8 and 2 and later 7 and 3for 1st and 2nd number)
That's 4 digit and I need one more, so I keep 5 because it is the middle number (between 9 and 2)...i.e. 5 and 4 in your 1st and 2nd number respectively..
so we have 8 and 7, 6 and 4 now 5
Put that in reverse order of your 3rd number and we get 85647.
Ridiculous or not?
*sigh*...yes. But this is my last try. My eyes crossed already. I'm not going to think anymore....just sleep this off. :)

(2) 6742835 --> 53476
(3) 7496258 --> ?
Venuspop, I was also thinking like you earlier today
Then when I finally got online at 1am and looked at your last explanation, it did not look right. Then everything clicked for me ... The clue I got from you was your mention of 2 digits adding to 10 (but you used that clue wrongly) ... that one clue was the key but it had to be used in a simple manner... see below -
Look for the pattern in (1) and (2) ...
(1) Remove highest and lowest digits that add to 10 = 9 & 1
we then get 38256
reverse the order = 65283
(2) Remove highest and lowest digits that add to 10 = 8 & 2
we then get 67435
reverse the order = 53476
so finally, we get the answer - it has to be right because the logic is simple and it makes sense
(3) Remove highest and lowest digits that add to 10 = 8 & 2
we then get 74965
reverse the order = 56947 :D :p :)

Well, if the solution applies to the 3, and it is still not the answer, it only means the question has multiple possible solutions.... flaw in the original conceptualisation of the puzzle.

Use another logic..
the sequence is to remove the next smallest/largest digits and reverse the order
(1) remove 1 & 9
(2) remove 2 & 8
(3) remove 4 & 7 (there was no 3, so had to pick 4)
Then we get (3) 7496258 --> 96258 reversed order to 85269

Barbie Barb returned to her apartment one evening to find that it had been broken into and vandalized. Pictures were smashed, personal letters were ripped, furniture was slashed, obscene graffiti written on the wall, and her favourite dresses torn. Barbie told Clouseau that she suspected her ex-boyfriend, Billy Bob. Clouseau went to see Billy and explained that Barbie's apartment had been broken into. Billy said he knew nothing about it, but would be happy to help catch the person who wrote such nasty things and caused such damage. Clouseau spoke with Billy for a few more minutes then told him he was under arrest for the crime. How did he know that Billy was the vandal?
Clouseau only told Billy that Barbie's apartment had been broken into. Billy exposed himself by revealing that he knew what happened in the apartment.

OK.. let me take the honour to post new puzzle I found :D
Here it goes....
Five burglars, Jones, Smith, Peterson, Bloggs and Harper burgled five houses called Catalan, Belvedere, Oakmoor, Ardswick and Pinewood, but not necessarily in that order.
The houses have jewellery, paintings, antiques, trophies and money in them but the order tells you nothing about which house contained what.
Exactly one burglar's initial corresponded with the initial of the goods he stole. The burglar who stole money had five letters in his name. Jones only stole things that had obviously been won. Precisely one burglar's initial corresponded with the initial of the house he burgled. Peterson burgled Catalan. Smith and Harper each burgled houses that had a tree in their names. Oakmoor had jewellery stolen from it.
Which burglar stole what from which house?

The kid's answer:
Jones stole trophies from Ardswick. (The last and only house)
Smith stole money from Pinewood. (Number of letters of name same as goods)
Peterson stole paintings from Catalan. (Name same initial as goods)
Bloggs stole antiques from Belvedere. (Name same initial as house)
Harper stole jewellery from Oakmoor. (The last name available for tree related house)

Jones -> tropies (Not jewellery nor money, but things won) -> Ardswick (last house not taken)
Smith -> money (five letters in his name) -> Pinewood (house with wood in it, not Oakmoor)
Peterson -> paintings (starts with 'p') -> Catalan (not Pinewood)
Bloggs -> antiques (last good not taken) ->Belvedere (same initial as house)
Harper -> jewellery (Oakmoor had jewellery stolen)-> Oakmoor (house with wood in it, not Pinewood)

Barbie Barb is afraid of monsters hiding under her bed. She usually runs from her bedroom door and leaps onto her bed so the monsters can't get her. Even though Barbie's bed is twelve feet from the door, she manages to switch off her light and jump into bed before her room is dark. Since Barbie doesn't use any device to flip the switch, how is she able to accomplish this remarkable feat?

Let me throw in a new puzzle for you to think ....
The professor was found dead with his calculator next to him in the library. The time of death was well after midnight. His body was lying facing a large mirror. His calculator had the number 11345 on it. This wasn’t unusual, as he worked on equations all day. The professor had scheduled a series of half-hour appointments that day, but they were all with friends and family: Linda, Bill, Christy, Shelley, his brother, and Marty. No other people had access to the library.
The detective immediately knew who the murderer was. How?
Shelly? The numbers in the mirror would read 5hEll

Lindsay Logan was out of town on business, and needed a room for a week. When she went to pay the clerk she realized her credit card was missing. Her bank said it would be one week before they could deliver a new card. Lindsay turned to the desk clerk and said, "I have a solid gold chain with seven links. Each link is worth well over RM100. I'll give you the chain as collateral until my card is replaced. Just to be on the safe side, I'll give you one link each day for seven days." Lindsay realized that she could trade links back and forth and avoid a lot of unnecessary cuts to the chain. What is the fewest number of cuts she would have to make and how would she trade the links back and forth?
