Terror ride for mum and son
By BEH YUEN HUI

PETALING JAYA: Two armed men pounced on a family who were about to get into their car after a shopping trip, taking a mother and her son on a terror ride before dumping them by the roadside and driving off with the RM400,000 car.

The robbers had earlier pushed away the father, a 50-year-old businessman, when they failed to force him into the car.

The family was walking towards their Toyota Genius at 1.45pm yesterday after shopping at the Carrefour hypermarket in Subang Jaya. The car was parked near the hypermarket.

One of the robbers approached the vehicle and held up the 44-year-old housewife and her 22-year-old son, a college student, at knifepoint.

The other man, who is believed to be armed with a pistol, tried to force the businessman into the car but he refused.

They drove off with the mother and son before abandoning the petrified victims in SS17, about 2km from the scene.

The robbers also grabbed RM1,000 from the victims.

The mother and son later walked to the Subang Jaya police station, where they were “reunited” with the businessman.

OCPD Senior Asst Comm (II) Datuk Sheikh Mustafa Sheikh Ahmad confirmed the incident.

Police have urged those with information on the whereabouts of a metallic gold Toyota Genius, bearing the number plate DAM 9968, to contact the district police headquarters at 03-7956-2222.

In an unrelated incident, the public lockers in Sunway Lagoon were broken into yesterday. Losses were estimated at about RM10,000.

It is learnt that some visitors were shocked to find that their valuables, which included cash, watches and cellular phones, went missing after they returned from the water and dry parks.

This was the first time police had received reports about public lockers in Sunway Lagoon being broken into since the theme park opened in 1993.

There were no signs of the lockers being prised open.

Police were investigating the case and no arrest has been made so far.
