Some of you might be aware that the illegal transmission towers belonging to MAXIS is being torn down today at Jesselton Heights here in Penang. I understand this is their main transmission tower... The state government has been asking them to tear the tower down as it was built illegally but over the last few months, no actions was taken. Today, the state government went in and dismantled the entire tower.

Service for my 012 has been bad the whole of today. I live around Batu Ferringhi area and my phone has not been able to make or receive calls and SMS text have been coming in intermittently every now and then and in large numbers all in one go...

One SMS was from MAXIS and it is asking its subscribers to send in a message of support to have them keep the illegal transmission tower at Jesselton Heights... so funny... asking its subscribers to support something built illegally without state approval for the use of state land or neither do they pay anything....

I just called their toll-free hotline, guess what? "Oh we have received many complaints but there is nothing much we can do about it... the state govt has dismantled our transmission tower at Jesselton Heights...."

So MAXIS, what are we subscribers to do in the meantime? Change Telcos?

maxis is used to the old style of governance...they will built/do illegal/grey area things and then use $$$ or lobby corrupted politicians to 'bend' the rules.

KUDOS! to the Penang State Government! *tabik spring*

Yes, Sentinel, migrate yr same number line to 016. We did and thats some 100+lines! Padang Muka when they sent their executive to salvage the bizz..hahahahha...too late! :p

Maxis? Always too complacent and arrogant. My ex-company uses maxis since 1993 and had thousands of lines with them BUT NOT anymore.
Several years back, they didn't have a package for company when other telcos have, such as free calls within the registered numbers. Many workers were apprehensive about the quality of telco but after many teething problems, they manage to live with it and survive without Maxis!

Understand they have hundreds of tranmission towers throughout the country built on land not belonging to them nor do they pay rental nor quit rent? Is that true? If this is the case, then this company needs to be more ethical....

To MAXIS, my line might still be choppy today but that ugly-looking tall structure within Jesselton Heights (its the Kenny Hill of Penang lah, brader!) must come down becoz its not your land and neither was there approval. Koh Tsu Koon also no more here oredi... went to Putrajaya backdoor...

You are a private company, aren't you MAXIS? You are not a GLC so there is no reason you cannot help people of Penang (although we are considered opposition ruled state) like taking part in our Dragon Boat? our Lantern Festival? sponsor a few flags for our Chingay? our year-end International Jazz Festival? our Durian Fest?

Have they still not woken up to the fact that the state gomen has changed and for the better? They still think that they have the bee end politicians at their beck and call and try to use public opinion to pressure the state gomen. It would work with people who are beholden to them but to people who do things by the book those days are over and they had better get used to it, otherwise they would wake up to the fact that people can migrate to other telcos and there is nothing that they can do about it.

I understand we can leave a voicemail on the old 012 number and inform people calling us and pay a small fees, is that right?

YES :D

One word of caution. Better buy one of those RM5 prepaid cards and try out at your usual haunts first. You may be jumping out of the pan into the fire.

Celcom has a 1+5 where the principle number pays full rate and the +5 (need not be wives) pay only RM 5 per month plus call charges. Calls and SMSs between the lines are FREE up to a certain limit.

(Disclaimer: I do not work for Celcom or any Telcos)

This is the Family plan and I use it myself. However, there is one thing the vendors don't tell you (and Celcom is pretty bad with the information bit) ... it is that while the main subscriber (like myself) is on Celcom Executive plan, where my calls to any number nation-wide is 20sen per minute, the other members pay something like 35sen per minute (calling numbers outside the 1+5 group). And I had a big problem porting my kids' numbers over to my Celcom postpaid family plan from their Maxis prepaid ... I cannot remember the details but in the end they all had to use 019 numbers to avoid all the hassle of jumping ship.By the way, I could not get their bills in their own names, all are now under my name.

What I am telling you is please check for the best plan before subscribng and ask for all the loopholes and potholes.

I believe the number portability works if you move one number...but check first if you go for the family plan. Actually the family plan is great because all our calls (including video calls and MMS) are FREE within the 1+5 group. Just think, everyone within the 1+5 group can chat and sms for free between each other ... there is a limit of course (like 1,200 minutes per month between members) but we never exceeded the limits yet

And the people dare to call me a week back and said the technical problem will be solved in 2-3 days!

And today, at 3.05pm, I spoke to a Customer Service rep Miss FAZI @ 1-800-82-1123 and she got the cheek to tell me her manager IS TOO BUSY to talk to me!

Good Luck MAXIS! You are going down the gutter very quickly....

Dun worry brader, I won't get into the ICU for MAXIS.... its only a spare standby line. I only switched it on today as I was expecting some calls coming in through it from China.... but the conversation with Miss Fazi really tells me MAXIS is going down.

You are a respected veteran in the Malaysian advertising / PR field Lato, you can smell a service company going down with just one two telephone conversations with the service reps, I am sure?

Oh, I also called and spoke to another service consultant by the name of SHIMA and when I also asked to speak to a manager, she was reluctant. She then asked me to hold the line and made me listen to, of all the blardy songs - the 1Malaysia song! (summore played over and over again 4-5 times! - thats how long they made me wait on the line!)- and finally a manager by the name of SASHIKUMAR came on the line. He told me the technical problem will be resolved by July 10th!

That means all the service consultants before this plus the technician who called me a week ago and told me the technical problem will be solved in 2-3 days WERE ALL LYING!

If this is how MAXIS conducts itself, I think even this one remaining line I have will need to potong! I urge all those with MAXIS lines, POTONG, jangan tak potong!

Sentinel: Usually the way telcos CS work is, first they will say "supervisor" or "manager" are not free to entertain you, but when you insist, they will put you in a very long hold (listening to music, and hoping you will drop your call). And well, if you dun, get another fellow CS (who is not manager, mind you) to pretend to be one to pacify you.

All above is because, LOL.., the manager too malas to entertain. :D

True... True... Escudo! From my experience with MAXIS, thats the way I thought too. Even when you threatened them about going public and write to the press, the SC will tell you "up to you, Sir!".

But its different with the call centres of some of the companies I have called recently, like Hong Leong Bank and Stanchart Bank, they resolved the problems on the spot.

I guess MAXIS is one of those companies that is on the decline and will soon lose their market share. Living on past glories...

I used to have a maxis mobile BB would tootle along at 5kpbs and sometimes squeeze 30 .. so pathetic .. I called them umpteen times and got various responses .. all lies and bull**it excuses .. even from the supervisor!!! the best one was that said it was slow because I had exceed my gb allowance for the month .. when I asked how this was possible at 5kpbs they did not have a ready answer .. Anyway long story short went in to maxis at sunway and told them I wanted to close and get my deposit back .. said could not would get deposit in 2-3 weeks .. so I just sat at the desk and said I will not move from your shop until you close and pay me .. eventually they caved in and I walked out a free man!!! Bought a Digi PAYG and have never looked back.

The best and most effective way when dealing with telcos from my experience:

1) Send email (FREE) to CEO, COO, CFO, etc etc ... janitor, security guard and tea-lady of company .... basically, all the email addresses you can get hold of in the company !! (reason: as in all company, sure got office politics, sure someone will hate someone, so, you kick the problem right into their politics, all hell will break loose there, and the adversary will keep tab for you FOC :p ) - SNEAKY BUT IT WORKS - and the politican will call you for more ammo some more .... :D

2) MOST IMPORTANT: CC to SKMM (Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia) - aduanskmm@cmc.gov.my - you have to give your full name, IC no. and addree and tel no. - NEVER FAILS to date.

- and be prepared to get at least 5 phone calls from technician, call centre, technical boss, service centre boss, and the BEST SKMM Customer Complain - EVERYBODY JUMPS hahahaha .... DON'T BCC and like what I did, at the bottom of email, I put down the list of people I cc to for their REF !!! :p - My STreamyx problem that was "unsolvable" for 3 months was RESOLVED within 4 hours after SKMM called and gave me a report no. :D and SKMM also called about later, to check IF I am satisfied with the outcome.

Agree - that's why in your email to SKMM and the telco - do highlight that you are MEGA-PISSED and if both telco and SKMM cannot resolve this soon - you will email everything including their response or non-response to the media.

PS: I have done this to Maxis (3x), TM Streamyx (2X) and TMhomeline (3x) :p :p

I called the General Line at MAXIS today - 03-2330-7000 and I didn't know they have hired a lot of "expatriates" lah :D The lady at the phone Helena was quizzing me if I am a post-paid or pre-paid and was reluctant to pass my call to anyone higher and kept insisting I call the 1-800-.... number. Told her I have called that stupid number for 9 days and she still couldn't get it into her thick head. Was so pissed off with her and asked her for her full name and it turns out it was Helena Abdul Talib.

So I made a second call and this time got her to pass me to a service consultant by the name of Toby. So, I said Toby as short form for Tobias? He said no, Toby is short for Mohd Nor Abhar....

To cut the story short, Toby took me thru resetting my phone, on it, off it, go to manual, go to automatic network selections - all the time its Celcom and DiGi... I have been doing this for 9 days Toby. Don't blame the phone, its your freakin' network!

"Well, sorry I guess there is nothing I can do about it" he said so I put the phone down. He called me back on my land line... don't waste my time lah.... the truth is nobody in MAXIS really cares about consumer complaints.

No choice lah in the past unlike today - got Mobile No. Portability and all that - when I used to work in Tgganu only Maxis line is reliable and after 15 years, it has become a business line - too "costly" to cut ;) - Celcom is hit and miss affair and Digi - not around at all.

But, I must admit, although my name and hp no.are high on Maxis blacklist of complaints - after all the hassle with SKMM, now, they are unbelievable QUICK to my service, on call, get thru, and the call centre see it is my hp no. - tabik L, R and Centre .... :D :D :D - typical Msians, when you don't complain and bitch, they take you for granted and ride roughshod over you - and after you have proven yourself to be a REAL MEAN %^&#$@ TO THEM - almost 5-6 stars service !!! :D
