A Kelantanese bird flew and whispered to me that Pulau Redang is for the very rich to spend $$$$$ to sleep in 5 footer bed and swimming in the hotel pool instead of doing nature time in the real oceanic wonders.
it was suggested that I should be going to Pulau Perhentian instead. So what's the best way to travel there and kinda of accomodation. And of course, me going snorkeling for fish to feed my guests. Would appreciate info. :)

The most untouched of that northern group of Islands remains Pulau Tenggol. Simple chalets, but the environment is so serene and beautiful. Full of turtles.

However, always bring 2 large cans of insect spray. Something I've learnt by experience. When you arrive, spray the chalet full and close all doors and windows for 20 mins before you move in the luggage. After that no problem for 5 days a least....

Any snorkeling activities or operators there?
And how to get there from the main land?

I love Gem Island. It's a tiny place where you can literally walk all over it. It has a small resort there. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do there except snorkelling the whole day. If that's what you like, then I recommend this place.

If not, I B happy hip hop all the islands and snorkeling all night long with my American tall young blondies :D .

hahahaha... u 4got to mention the sand flies! Their bites are so viciously itch (for 3mths!) that i stopped going there for years!
We used to camp there when it was just a shelter for the fisherfolks. The drinking water came from the stream some 50m from the beach. Crystal clear then...The soft coral gardens are a sight to behold. And the LKIM?cops? sunk a few vietrefugee boats there as arti-reef for the marine life. Great place to relax...(hush...a giant of a _ _ _ _ _ was sighted there frequently enuff)

The route to get there is from Kuala Dungun. and its almost equidistance KT & Kuantan. Drive or fly up 2 u lah. Then hop to a boat...

Zing, PPhentian is accessible via the cheapest & shortest route thru Kota Bharu (Airasia promo now - July at RM150 rtn) then catch a cab (maybe rm35-50 1way 50_+km only) for a 45 (?)-1hr drive. Share a cab then. Then at Kbesut, catch a speed boat for a 15-30min ride depending on sea cond.

If u choose to drive, its a 500+km via bentong/Gua musang. Yup, this is the shortest route.

Depending on your dig, PP Besar is less hectic. Kecil has Long Beach fulla hippie type kwailohs & packaged loud local tourists. I usu avoid them like plague!

Plenty of chalets but beware that jun-aug is peak time. Best u book early...do yr search. Dont wanna spoon feed u free. :p

Pay my FULL expenses + food + Glenlivet, I can plan everything to the T for u :D

p/s I have perfected the 'Fine Art of Doing Nothing' but is constantly fine tuning it. Now only for Zing&co, i can offer 1free lesson@beach. U would want more...i betcha :p

Pulau Redang have facilities ranging from the cheap to the very rich.
Try these;

Very affordable

Mid Range

Higher Range

I think P Redang is good for children as they have good snokelling
locations and a Marine park.

Come to think about it for hassle free, just got to go to Redang. As for the doles, now just gotta to increase price like the Tai chow in the cari makan column. So would be charging RM28.80 for the Talapia instead of RM25.50 for Siakap. :D http://www.usj.com.my/bulletin/upload/showthread.php?p=427103#post427103

Thanks guys for the info. :)

Dunno whether the Berjaya Hotel if I wanted to whip some fish dishes on my own in thier kitchen :D

wah! 3d2n during school hols @Rm400 per head, in dorm sumore, is not expensive?

I must be a really cheap skate budget traveller...my chalet is usu only Rm60-max 80/nite. :D Sea Breeze cool and Open sea swimming pool :D Hearing distance to Wave Orchestra sumore...but then again, i am usu underh2o with 'em fishes! hahahahah!

Zing, where is yr yanky sense of adventure? take each step, each inconvenience as an adventure lah! Its mind opening to say the least! Save the aircon sleeping on duvet money and spend 'em all on good food & single malt! and in yr case, snorkeling sessions lah :D

Correct, both Pulau Gem (or Pulau Gemia by its full name) and Pulau Tenggol are via the Dungun jetty.

Have guts will travel which is the western Yankees way, but being a western Malaysians , have kids, mana boleh adventure with make shift tent and sleep on the beach watching starry skies with the amazing orchestra sea music and get blown by sea breeze. Sumore with a Glen Licks Vicks makes me forget all the cervical aches here or there. And just imagine with the Rm500, how much bottles I can swinging with that. :o
