Private firms in Selangor reminded to adhere to two holidays
SHAH ALAM: The private sector has been directed to adhere strictly to the public holidays declared by the state government on Dec 14 and 16.
Deputy State Secretary (administration) Datuk Ahmad Latffi Hashim said that the private sector would have to observe Dec 14 as a public holiday given to replace the Hari Raya holiday which falls on Dec 7.
He said the state government, after seeking the consent of the Sultan of Selangor, had set Dec 14 to commemorate the birthday of the Sultan which was done under the Holidays Act 1951. The Sultan’s actual birthday is on Dec 11.
“Since Dec 14 happens to fall on the replacement day off for the first Saturday of the month which is Dec 7 and also taking into account that Dec 7 is a federal public holiday because of Hari Raya, the public holiday for the Sultan’s birthday is shifted to Dec 16,” he said in a statement yesterday.
