You throw a stone and you will sure to hit some Datuks. The other fashion is to get an honorary doctorate from some unknown institutions and from thence onward the person adds that title to his name : Tan Sri Datuk Dr. XXX !!!

Good point, but before anyone tries to chuck another stone, I can vouch that there is one Minister who uses his honorary doctorate correctly, that is by using it as Datuk (Dr.) Xxx. Let us give credit when it is due.

What I am trying to get at is the possible commercial price tag that is attached to the honorary doctorate, and such doctorate is sometimes referred to as having been awarded by "Wild Chick Universities" or "Ye Gai Dai Hock" in Cantonese.

Not to mention the Honourary Doctorateship, even the Datukship is "commercially" available - you just need to know the right people and pay the right price, ha!, ha!

But I agree with KW that credit should be given when it is due. I attended my brother's convocation recently and there was a "Tan Sri" among the PhD graduates and he did work for his PhD. Syabas.

There are also others who reportedly bought their PhD degrees from God knows where Overseas Universities then go to Mindanao and add the Datukships to their shopping carts and come back and be known as Datuk Dr. XXX. The two titles complemented each other very well. Unfortunately for them and fortunately for us, that supermarket does not sell the Tan Sri titles. I understand that such datukship is not recognised in Malaysia and how come these people are so thick skin and freely use them. Why, they are respected even more and held in high esteem and because of these titles, they command a higher price/fee in whatever profession they are in. In financial term, they have a very high ROI! (return of investment)
