Friend, kindly refrain from ridiculing the issue if you lack understanding on the purpose of sembahyang hajat. Its praying to the Almighty in good faith for a noble wish to be fulfilled. Its up to the Almighty for the wish to be fulfilled or not. If its fulfilled, everyone must be thankful. Its as simple as that.

Part of the latest El Nino effect on the weather? Drought in some areas and heavy rain in other areas. My missus' car was almost submerged in flood waters along Jalan Puchong by a sudden flashflood in Friday.

This is insulting and insensitive.
You may have the right to your opinion but in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious community, it is absolutely irresponsible to make such comments

Living in Malaysia, it is hard to imagine that there might be places where it does not rain each day, every day, at precisely 4:58 pm during the first 3 months of the year, 1:10 pm and 9:30 pm during the middle 6 months, and 3 am during the last 3 months.
So upon reading this article I first thought, so what, m is also a 'bomoh hujan' who can make it rain....
But then, the message is that prayer is powerful. This has been seen in medicine, history, even the direction of the weather.
m recalls a story he was told when he was a child, about the value of faith and the power of conviction.
A man was so desperate to get some money so that he could afford to meet the basic needs of life, take care of his parents & family etc. He was poor & uneducated and had no skills but he had faith.
So his tok guru (though he was not Malaysian) told him to read a prayer over the night, and at the same time, pray with conviction that the pile of sand in front of him would be turned into gold.
So the man sat through the night and prayed and prayed. He was tired and hot and cranky and as he saw the first stirrings of light marking the arrival of the dawn, a frustrated thought flashed through his mind "Aiyoh, if not gold then turn this sand into rock!"
and lo and behold.........................
Cheers, m

What happened then? Lo and behold - it turned into rock and roll music in stead of thunder and rain? :D  :D
