I came across this book while browsing in a bookstore today. It's " Supplements Exposed: The Truth They Don't Want You to Know About Vitamins, Minerals, and Their Effects on Your Health' by DR Brian Clement.

So when i came home i did some research online,
http://www.hippocrateshealthlifestyle.com/2591/nutritional-supplements-exposed-dr-brian-clement/

The book,
http://www.amazon.com/Supplements-Exposed-Vitamins-Minerals-Effects/dp/1601630905

I do take salmon oil daily & occasionally take vitamin c, this is quite shocking to me.

Wow... I must start to throw away my vitamin tables that I usually get from the pharmacy, and the clinics whenever I visit them, and ask them never to charge me for the vitamin pills they prescribe... Hope some doctors here cud give their input here...

to some extent, i agree that supplements cause cancer or doesnt help with health. and these are the ones made of synthetic ingredients, ie chemically derived. how do you know whether they are synthetic? read the ingredients.

supplements made from 100% natural ingredients may prevent cancer and maintain good health. heard many testimonies from those who take good quality aloe vera juice, fruits and vegetable extracts and benefited from them.

what i learned or heard from others that is ok to take supplements...but you need to take break in between to let body some time to get rid of unused residue. Maybe you can take iron supplements for 1 month than stop for maybe 2 months or few months before continue. Also you must know if you body really needs them. A member from church keep taking calcium supplements everyday non stop for few years. She was around 50. One day she felt really sick ...upon check up doctor say liver problem.

Nowadays there is just too much info to digest. Which is right and which is wrong?? If you gonna find a link between breast and brain or breast and career success, you can. If you want to find a link between organic-food and sexual desire, you can too. I am just a confused consumer.

Sometime i think in this way. "If i have the means to invest(supplements, bird-nest,anti-oxidant & blah-blah-blah) in my health and choose not to....when anything goes wrong, i will start blaming myself and my family suffer too"

My uncle who is now in bad health condition say this, "when he is young...he sacrificed health to gain monies. now...he used monies to gain back health" (sad but true)

Have you people stopped and think why you need supplements in the first place? Because somebody told you that they have taken it and it is "good". The fact is we get almost all the nutrients from the food we eat. The only mineral that may need supplementation is calcium for the ladies.

Whenever a salesperson approach me and try to promote a "health supplement" I ask them back, why am I not healthy enough? ;)

it is a known fact that we overharvest our soil. thus, soils do not have the opportunity to replenish the minerals used.

with this, fruits and vegetables these days no longer contain the nutrients they used to have.

not only that, fruits and vege these days are laden with chemicals and pesticides. even if you go organic, the nutrient content is not sufficient.

IMHO, supplements is a must, no longer an option. of course, the market is overloaded with thousands of brands. do your homework and choose your brand.

Where did you get this piece of information from? The sales pitch from supplement sellers? The supplement business is even larger than the pharmaceutical sector; therefore they can spend lots more on promotions rather than on R&D which pharma companies have to.

You have obviously not studied biology. Life-forms have this in-built system to produce all the required nutrients and essential minerals. If you are religious, then it is the way God had designed it to be...if you are not too religious, then just take it that the genetic material had been coded to build up the required processes.

Furthermore, agriculturalists and agronomists know what they are doing.

And finally, if the soil is depleted, the plant would not grow properly in the first place and do you think the plant you get from the market would have come from an impoverished soil?

That statement is a direct copy from a sales pitch to sell nutritional supplements. Advertisements and brochures are not sources of information. They are more likely written by copywriters, not scientists or nutritionists

Please do not make such comments without any scientific evidence

Better health care; preventive and curative. Better living conditions, clean water supply. Higher food production (using fertilizers and insecticides)

Precisely the things that sellers of "health" food say are the problems of modern lifestyle.
