My son is 5 this year and needs to register for primary school. Different friends have been saying different advices as what the is process of registering. A friend said we need to do it in Mar, another one said do it in Aug. A colleague said I can do it next year.

When do we need to register our son for primary school? In Mar when my son is 5 year old? What do we need to bring? Birth Cert only? Photocopy of documents required? What's the process of registering primary school?

Advice from experienced parents appreciated. Thanks.

The banner at Lick Hung say:
For children born between 1/1/2004~1/1/2005, registration starting 1/3/2010...

Normally you need to register your child at the age of 5. Many school open registration between FEB and March.
Other than Birth Cert they will need self address envelope, stamp , electricity bill and etc. You can contact the school you want to register and they will advise you what to bring for registration.

I just registered my 5 years old son yesterday (1/3/2010). I arrived the school at 8.30am & saw many parents filling up forms. my application was numbered 22.

You need to bring:-
original birth cert (child)
photocopied birth cert (child)
Any original utility bills
photocopied utility bills
photocopied I/C (both parents & guardians if any)
Envelope with your address & sufficient stamp to post to your house
If your house is rented, the tenancy agreement needed

Good luck!! all schools open registration on 1/3.

Feynman my wife and me were also in the same situation like you. Many kind souls were giving us different answers.

What we did was we went straight to the school we wanted her to enrol in and get the answer directly from the school office. The staff will advise you roughly when is the date to register your child and what are the documents required. We also called the office numerous times to reconfirm the date of registration. I remembered u need to call them mid Jan or early Feb to confirm the actual date of registration.

On the date of registration we went to the school quite early and brought all the documents ( we even took copy of our property SPA ). Then wait for the confirmation or rejection letter from the Education Ministry late August or early September.

It was really an anxious wait but luckily my daughter application was approved and this year she is now in Wawasan Tun Tan Cheng Lock Primary 1.

I have registered my son last year. Do I need to re-registered again? He will be standard 1 next year.

Yes - you should get a letter to ask you to go and RECONFIRM - be safe, go and ask again - hope you don't mind the extra work.

No. You don't have to re-register. But just wait for any letters from the school for any information. I think it should be around Q3 this year. But of course, you can always go to the school to ask.

BTW, if possible, also register your kids for the ORIENTATION classes in December, it helps a lot for them to make new friends as well as to get used to the school and class environment - all the hoo-hah and crying will be done and settled then .... less stress in January - since most parents also can take off in Dec but not Jan - from my experience and 2 cents. :D

It is also a good chance for parents to get to know each other and make friends .... :)

If no need to register again, once we get the letter in Aug/Sep this year, what shall we do in March next year? Reconfirm means what? What is the reconfirmation procedure? Appreciate some advices from experienced parents.

The results for Std 1 posting is out. My son did not get the school that we wanted. Does anyone know what is the best way to appeal?

BTW, does anyone has children in the Wawasan Kebangsaan school? How is the school standard and the school hours?

Hi parents, what is the criteria used to decide which school children are sent to? Is it based on address? If so, what if I prefer another school which may not be the nearest? e.g. if I would like to try for Sekolah Wawasan in USJ rather than Lick Hung which is nearest to us? What should I do?

You have to go and apply at the PPD - Pejabat Pelajaran Daerah. Last year, a parent went to do the same and was told by PPD, all 3 Chinese schools in SJ/USJ are good and strong ...
