Anyone notice TM contractors installing fiber optic at TM's telephone pole near your house?

The fiber optic cable is as thick a water hose, black with yellow line.

At the pole or the next, there is a 2' X 2 ' box with a TM logo (Fiber termination box)

Saw them took the box down just now and testing the signal. (USJ 13 & 14)

Most of the residential house, the telephone pole is behind while most TV are in the living room infront of the house. You cannot bend fiber optic 90 degree, so how the heck they are going to pull a fiber to the living room without drilling hole thru kitchen, down stair bed room, built in cabinets and to the living room. Plus those unsightly conduit (like water pipes)... uuuurrghhH! shudders....!

Anyone have HSBB already in their house? Share your experience...

I think there is a Junction Box where it is spilt into smaller cables & go into the house & normally there is a socket on the wall for connection.

That's how it is with mine.

I think that is copper wire. Our house are not fiber optic ready... non in subang jaya that I know off.

Normally, for telephone/streamyx the junction box by the road side, either rectangle or torpedo look... that goes to the telephone poles, all the way to our house...

Fiber optic Junction Box or whatever they call it also similar, just the cabinet's number got a"F" on it. The fiber goes under the road side... all the way to your house for HSBB.

Your house got HSBB, Naka? Fast?

I have spoken to the fiber-optic network contractors when they were splicing the fiber-optic threads at the Telekoms manhole just next to my house many months ago. The glass fibers will only be on the telephone cable poles outside your house. On the pole is a junction box where the fiber-optic transmissions get converted to the copper lines. Hence only copper gets into your house.

I believe they are almost ready to commission the lines. In my area, the fiber exchange boxes are ready and it looks like they only have to hook up the last part ... ie the fibre-to-optic relays on the phone poles.

I heard (sorry, this is only hearsay, not substantiated) that the cost of the broad band subscription could be less than RM150 per month. Is that too expensive? At the current telco rates for 1Mbps streamyx, I believe it is relatively cheap for a 10 Mbps connection.

No lah, mine is not HSBB. I do not think it is fast when compare to HK but I am not into downloading movie or song, so it's good enough for me.

We just call it cable and it was laid underground a long time ago across the road.
