View Full Version : Caution: The "Humongous" Hypermart at USJ

Over the years, I have read many comments in this forum about this "huge" hypermart and I know some have even boycotted this place. However my mom still likes to drop by once in a while, especially when some items are on offer.

Last Saturday, I accompanied her to this hypermart and she bought several items. At the checkout counter, as the cashier was scanning the items, she noticed that her pack of celery was NOT RM 1.88 as displayed at the produce area. It was priced at RM 3.99! We quickly alerted the cashier, who requested her supervisor to check the price displayed at the produce area.

A couple of items later, a twin-pack of canned food, which we saw was being sold for RM13.88, was scanned at the price of RM 15.49!

We had to wait 10 minutes before the prices were rectified.

And yesterday, after seeing in a flyer about items being sold for 20% and 50% off at this very same hypermart, my mom was there again. She brought the flyer along. As she was at the check-out counter, she saw several people arguing with the cashiers about these items, because when scanned, the items still displayed the original price! You might say that maybe the cashiers need to punch in the 20/50% off the original prices, but the cashiers did not even know about the discounts on these items. My mom had to produce the flyer as evidence!

I am the first to admit that mistakes do happen, especially when dealing with thousands and thousands of products, with prices that change every day. However, to have 2 items incorrectly priced in a list of barely 20 items, that's preposterous!

It could be something as simple as someone is not doing his/her job in updating the offer prices on sale items. Can you imagine how much "extra" money has been paid by unsuspecting patrons to this hypermart?

Folks, do watch out while I go convince my mom to NOT go to this hypermart anymore!

sherry..long time did not see you... :)

yeah..myself had experience this... but the cashier direct me to their customer service counter to rectify it....at least she had the sense to shorten the waiting time at the queue area.

It happened to me at Tesco Shah Alam too. A small item was overpriced by $4.00!! The cashier sent me to customer service for immediate refund but it still took about 15 minutes because of the paper work and approval needed.

Question: Why is it that whenever a mistake is made, it is always in their favor? If they are random mistakes, it should be around 50:50. But, in my case, it has been 100% in their favor!! Mathematically, that is impossible for random mistakes.

Ivan,

Synonym for "humongous" (huge) is ....... (5 letters word) :) and based in USJ - USJ got how many hypermarket :D ?? Sherry is being smart to "play" with synonym as the rules say we cannot condemn without proof - although I think Sherry got plenty including myself - hence I always check the prices of SALE items at the price checker first before approaching the cashier !!

BTW - MAKRO is in Shah ALam, not USJ !! :)

Which supermarket in Malaysia do that?
Doubt it. The only ones are in overseas. What they practice there, they dont practice it over here.

Though they are thousands of products, it is shouldnt be the consumers to bear the brunt of management oversight. If you dont check, you get cheated especially the item which is on offer. If you check, you are penalised with the inconvenience of waitng 10 to 20 minutes to get a ringgit refund!

What I did usually when I found out because it has been a regular affair -in fact it just happpen to tesco yesterday, I requested the manager to see me at the counter while they are still tabulating the items. There I gave him my piece of my mean face and statement of how lousy the service and the convenience of cheating consumers.

I guess it happens everywhere, not just at that particular hypermart. We just have to pay close attention to the prices when the items are scanned at checkout.

Same thing at restaurants, especially when it comes to items that were ordered but cancelled due to whatever reason.

Buzz! wrong answer, my man. Always check during and after , when and before you pay the cashier! ;)
If you can identify the difference of price shown, you only wait for the cashier to erase the item and discard it. Then you dont have to be penalised 20 minutes waiting to get back your money nearly cheated by them. Moreover, I always used this opportunity to embrass the manager who come in and authorize the register changes. Ehh, this is carrefour or care2fool ?

Does these amount to fraud? Display RM10, bill & collect RM10.10 from consumer. Do we have a case to win?

I hope you are not thinking of suing the hypermarket for half a million ringgit!!! For that kind of mistake, you, as an employer, can't even sack the cashier or the person responsible to price tag that item! Human errors, my friend, human errors.

Another bad experience at the HUMUNGOUSaur hypermarket in USJ which always pissed me off is that whenever they advertised SPECIAL OFFERS/SALE, conveniently, when you get there, not a single item is available - apparently SOLD OUT - well, I tried once, going on the first day of such a SALE once, around 30 minutes after opening, and the stacker told me, "belum ambil keluar - nanti dalam 30 minutes" - well, guess what, things never came out, 2 hours later, when ask manager, he said no more stock !!!!!!

Well, it happened to my hubby as well. Left the whole trolley of barang there after cashier was rude and walk off and another person could not solve the problem after 5 more minutes. Came home, called the people concerned and complained about incompetant staff yada yada yada. They asked hubby to go back so that they can sort the matter out. Refused to do so. From 8.30PM to 10nish received one call after another from their PR guys.

Finally they sent the trolley load of things right to our doorsteps at about nearly midnight after they got lost in the process. We got the things gratis.

Not human errors, my friend, not human errors but someone erred or couldnt care less about the job. Why do you think those managers avoid me when they see the sight of me? Believe me - I am that notorious mean and infamous
There were two managers which comes straight to me when they see - one from Tesco and the other was from Makro. I did not expect special services nor patronising words. but it was just that these two guys were sincere to know what was not up to the mark. And they are actually grateful to see a customers like me giving constructive comments. One of them even took the time to patronise my shop regularly and became friends.
So my judgemental observations did not just come from my past dealing with these supermarkets while in the corporate world but also from insiders like the two above managers!

hehe :) :) Great and Grand!! :p Have given up going to this humungous hypermart.
Wifey has been mad when few occassions Carre4 had a different price in system compared to what's written on the shelf. I took the price tag from shelf and showed cashier. Not wanting to wait, just gave up buying the item... so, always check! check! check! even after paying and b4 leaving.
At least Care4 honours by giving back in cash if you pay cash. Giant gives you a voucher even if you pay cash.

MORAL of the thread: Whenever you shop, always be aware of the price - before, during and after purchase - errors happen and we don't like the feeling of being "cheated" not even over 1 red cent !!

In USA, all supermarkets dont not just refunded your difference for thier errors, they give you that item for free! Me got an item - worth USD50 for free from Acme. The manager even thank me for pointing out the errornous pricing! Now that is what I called accountability from instead of customer penalty. :) ;) :)

Just to say again, we're in a different world here and this country's businesses have a lot to learn (not that they don't know) about ethics and full customer satisfaction. I think they're just sambil lewa here or purposely ignorant or arrogant where a few complaints mean practically nothing and don't even lift a finger to offer even a reply unless you shout it out in the media, even then their explanation is for free (just cheap talk) and you're the loser. Typical 3rd world exploitation to their own vested interests. Lastly, what must happen in USA or EU is no guarantee it'll happen here. Not yet.

Hi,

i shop at a boutique which currently having sales. I took a dress which marked 30% discount and hanging in 30% section. when the time i pay for the dress, the cashier claimed that this is only 10% discount and she removed the 30% tag. We had an arguement on this and the floor manager scolded me (warn me not to argue anymore) and refuse to sell the dress at the price display (which is 30% discount). Was wondering, if such case happened, is it right that the floor manager the refuse selling it at the price display?

It happened in Carefool once, but I aint no fool. First I took photo of the display price and demanded to see the manager. Then I said in American, Whassaup with that? Price got changed to the display price but then I suddenly cakap Malaysia..... maybe I call the trade enforcement about the malpractice. Then I speak Inglish - bperhaps you should ask your branch manager to speak to me - I am that infamous but I aint no fool. :D :p :D

Anyway, if the tade enforcement can charge and issue summon to to the pasar malam for not tagging the price, the law would be applied to supermarkets or butik.

Everyone is talking about making a report here... can I ask report to who? To the police? To the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affair Ministry? To the Consumer Assoc of SJ (which is not sure up and running or not yet?).... hey there is no where for you guys to report to lah... and if I tell you how some consumer associations are actually buddy-buddy with some big corporations, you will flip over and faint hearing my story....

Best thing is just don't go to the supermarkets that always shortchange you. Why come to usj.com.my and scream so much, scream at those blardy managers in front of their staff and customers, barulah dramatic...

Itulah saya buat to be infamous. Luckily, so far they didnt bring in the marine guards.
BTW, even the marine guards officers at carefool also kena when I was at the basement entrance. I struck up a conversation where he was there pufffing away. How come no security around even there was recent reported case of theft? Yes, there are increased guards stationed. Adakah? Incidentally I was here in the afternoon, 5pm and now at 10pm. No sight of guards until now. Maybe they are puffing and hiding away when I was here? Ok, whatever it is, I gonna to post what I see at usj.com.my to let people know what I had observed. Either you are not doing your job as a security senior officer or your frenchie poopie manager is as blurred as sotong. Remember, I am mean and I meant I pity those who lose thier things and i may be one of the statistic number of victims too.
Btw, I come here almost everyday because my restaurant is just 1 km away.

I think some supermarkets cheat if they run run of stock within 2 hrs into the sale.

They only want to pull you to their supermarket.

But if they adv as 'limited stock' , then it's a different case.
