What is it with some women who always think they are 'less' in the eyes of God and Society when comparing themselves to men? :rolleyes:

From the days of feet binding in China to female genital mutilation in some Asian and African countries, these practices have always been carried out by women on other women. :mad: From keeping silent when some women are persecuted in the name of religion to undermining other women's successes, the list goes on where it clearly shows they are really their own worst enemy!

Aiyah, if only we have all women believing that and for them to have the confidence in their capabilities (whatever that may be) rather than leaving it to men or other women to tell them what they can/cannot do or be.

I still hear of some women who would say no to their daughters' furthering their education because they think it will be money wasted on daughters who will only get married someday. Sillly females.

However, it is still heartening to hear of more women being successful and are at the pinnacle of their careers throughout the world. Not many as yet but increasing by the year, I believe.

Lets be fair to her. She deserved the accolades. She was a top performer during her years with Standard Chartered Bank in Sarawak and was head-hunted for the top job in Alliance. I am sure there are many more woman bankers around and prettier ones too. For her to have even landed the job of head honcho of Alliance, even though its the smallest of the banks, it was a great achievement. She wasn't there due to luck alone, so lets be fair.

You obviously are not aware of the sensitivities of a top banking job. If you are tainted, you are damaged goods. Even the slightest bad publicity or speculation, your reputation is kaput and in a top banking post like hers, reputation is everything, not her always coiffured hair.

BTW I don't think everyone wants to be like her.

It may bug some of us but honestly, Id be more worried about that forumer than the intended victim of the aggressive posturing.

I dont think 'nigga' can be made positive and I dont think 'bitch' can be made positive either. But you are welcome to try it.

myself, upon hearing words like that (or any other negative ones) would simply say 'that word has to go away because it is hurtful. You have to go away because you used it and it hurts.'

I dont see any reason to tell children that it is ok to use bad words or hurtful words if your intentions are good. That confuses them and they are probably confused enough. You could send them a positive message about confidence without having to use a single ugly word.

mWong...personally...I dont agree because the word 'bitch' has a bad meaning - and I dont think that an ugly word like that can be redeemed from its history or made beautiful, no matter how much we try.

The word 'nigger' was used with a negative connotation and there is a huge debate about the effect of people's 'attempts' to turn it around and make it positive (the word 'nigga' was and is used by many in the hip-hop industry and the new context supposedly means brother').

I dont think 'nigga' can be made positive and I dont think 'bitch' can be made positive either. But you are welcome to try it.

I dont see any reason to tell children that it is ok to use bad words or hurtful words if your intentions are good. That confuses them and they are probably confused enough. You could send them a positive message about confidence without having to use a single ugly word.

Your views are noted and I find myself enjoying reading your take on the issue despite our differing way of looking at it.


I do advise my children to take heed of this phrase "I am outspoken, opinionated and determined. I want what I want and there is nothing wrong with that!" as an advice to have the confidence and determination to go all out to achieve what they want.

I believe in my children to know what are bad and good behaviors, to know what is acceptable and not acceptable. For any reasons that anyone here who does not know the good from the bad, this is obviously a wrong advice to give and again here is not the place to teach you what's what.

This is actually in reply to the posting about the phrase of "I want what I..." and how it is going to cause anarchy and chaos if a person should act on this phrase.

To me, it's about them being confident enough to go for what they want and definitely not about gaining confidence by calling and giving people ugly names and labels.

There are 2 issues here. 1) contention over my redefining the label "bitch" into something acceptable and good. I have read differing opinions on this and accept them in good faith.
