I was reading this letter and got even more angry as I read it.

http://www.mmail.com.my/content/26088-emergency-services-cut-back-blaring-sirens

To think, the person in this article is complaining about loud ambulance sirens and the inconvenience to motorists caused by ambulances rushing their passengers to the hospital.

Then I read the signature that the bottom of the letter....

Kena surprise!

Cheers, m

i guess what he meant was those inconsiderate emergency vehicle driver who take advantage for beating traffic lights and escaping jam. i seen it before that an ambulance when approaching a traffic lights, suddenly turn on the siren and the lights. after passing through it, he just off it and continue with the journey. So is this ethical ??

Then please do also explain where once I was at mamak, I saw a guy getting off from an ambulance and tapau a teh tarik. Even some of my friends also saw that they ta pau food also from stalls at the road side. I believe there is just a small number of them misused the power that is given to them.

These people are driving around KL for 6-8 hour shifts, day and night.

And they tapau, they were not not sitting and eating.

Sorry, I dont see a misusing of power. I see a worker responsible for saving lives and I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe the IRCS Ambulances or Saint John Ambulance people should arrange ride-alongs with so people can see the situation for themselves. Or if they cannot, we can always watch IRCS Ambulances on the local tv show Emergency! It's not for the faint of heart though.

Malaysian Drivers are selfish and they only respect the police outriders when a Menteri or royalty is in the car. Very often, the emergency lane is taken up to speed up the queue.
This attitude is necessary to survive driving in P.J. and K.L. Pity the patient in the ambulance and surprise that Lau Bing is annoyed by the sound pollution.

I have always wanted to ask this question - does one need to give way to an ambulance or a fire truck with flashing light but without the siren on?

You know it's an emergency when the siren and flashing light are on, but what does it mean, really, when only the flashing light is on?

Its likely just being ethical or compassionate on the road in this case. AFAIK, its encouraged to give way, but then again it may cause accidents from behind as drivers may NOT be entirely alert or very responsive.
THATS WHY LEARN TO DRIVE ON THE SLOW SIDE ON THE LEFT LANE WHERE POSSIBLE and with a CLEAR MIND on the highway!.
I see any car behind TOO CLOSE, I move away from that fler. I won't be a victim of his/her incompetence.

There is always a bad apple amongst every profession... ambulance drivers included.

My philosophy is very simple, whenever I see an ambulance rushing with the lights and siren switched on, I just move aside as much as possible and let it pass. That way, we might even save a life. No one will thank you but the Big Guy upstairs will know what you have done. Who knows, who is the patient lying down in the ambulance in need of emergency attention - it could even be a loved one... how do you know?

The REAL IDIOTIC ONES are those drivers rushing behind an ambulance trying to also beat the traffic to get to their destinations quicker. They do not fathom the danger of doing such stupid stunts... these are the ones classified under TPS!

* TPS - tak pi sekolah!

I've come across many flers who actually advise others (in some converstion) TO DO EXACTLY THAT! Goes to show what kind of opportunist mentality lurking in local minds.

They do not see the danger because when they watch Mika Hakkinen (Makai Hakayin) tailing Michael Schumacher (Makai Chormakai) like that it looks ok mah... but what they fail to realise is the F1 cars are on one way street on almsot perfect road surface with 14-inch Brembo disc brakes with 8 calipers and the F1 drivers do gym workouts 4 hours a day to stay fit and alert and nimble.... paitiong tak pi sekolah!

i always give way to those who flashes, signals, horns whatever as long as 'fast driver' gimme enuff early warning...its no skin off my bulpy-nose to be behind the 'fast driver'.

I will not give in to those 'fastdriver' who suddenly tailgate me in a split sec and expect to FRIGHTEN me? hahahahaha! tunggu lah.

Yang Bersikap semo Ok latotupai

ps/ I know a young 30yr+ person who used to be an Ambulance driver. he gave up after 3years due to too many traumatic experiences as well as risk of being an ambulance driver...his stories are scary to say the least. My advice to all is "Give way to the ambulance, with siren or otherwise." Amin.

ALSO, the guy who complained about the ambulence siren has gone bonkers! My view! If he was in the ambulance, he will be wanna go faster! faster! faster! Ah!
