The Subang Jaya community has kick start a voluntary crime prevention activity called Voluntary Patrolling Unit (VPU) with the support of USJ8 Police Station & MPSJ. Volunteers offer 2 hours per week to do the patrolling around the residential areas of USJ & SJ.
I had the opportunity to join the patrolling team for the 1st time today. We drove around SS14 today where we look out for suspicious vehicles or people and we even stop by houses with gates left opened to remind them to close their gates to prevent being easy targets of robbers.
This activity makes me feel good that I am playing my part in crime prevention for our township. I hope that more people would come forward to support this effort. This team starts patrolling from 9am to 5pm on weekdays. Each member takes 1-2 hours slot.
For those who are keen to participate in this crime prevention effort, please contact the co-ordinator of the VPU, Mr. Mak at 012-3836508.

During the last VPU Meeting with Inspector Loi of USJ 8 Police Station, it was highlighted that for the 3 weeks since VPU was started, there was no reported break-ins in USJ from 9am to 5pm. That is a good news for all who took part in the VPU.
However now the break-ins time are taking place during dinner time. Thus, the VPU team is hoping we can lengthen the hours of patrolling to 9pm. We hope to get sponsors for vehicles and more volunteers to join VPU.
We have heard & read many who oppose the GnG concept. Up to this stage, VPU has proven to be a deterrant to break-ins. How about those who oppose GnG come and join us in VPU? If we have more VPUs, we can help deter crime from infesting USJ & SJ. And there won't be fencing, inconvenience, monthly payment, road block. Don't just oppose and complain. Do nothing! Walk the talk. Do your part to improve the security of our township. Volunteer to join VPU!

Read about the SJ/USJ Voluntary Patrolling Unit that appeared in The Star Metro (Central edition) on Sat, 10 April 2010 entitled 'Working as a team to curb crime' (http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2010/4/10/central/6026822&sec=central).
With the presence of VPU, then the policemen of USJ will be more dependent of VPU, and wait for your guys to catch the robbers/thieves, right?
Something wrong somewhere in our country security level, it's getting worse. The residents have the rights to demand for better security and more commitments and efforts from policemen to reduce the crime rate. The residents will need to ensure that these policemen have met their KPI in fighting the crime rate. At least, we will know if the policemen has well performed. This really has to be transparent.

WSP, we also rely on the Police for VPU to work. We have the one police officer and an MPSJ driver who drives the MPSJ vehicle to join us during our patrol. So the police is not off the hook when VPU is operating. They are together with us trying to deter crime.
Let's try to work both ways in getting our security and safety improved. We can do a part by doing our own patrol. We should take responsibility for our own safety and security. Of course, we pay tax and expect the police to do it. But when they are short-handed and not performing, it's time we start playing an active role.

VPU objective is to deter crime from happening with patrolling. It is not for catching thieves.
VPU believes more people patrol with more patrolling cars on the road, it will be a effective deterrent of crime.
VPU jointly patrol with a police officer in the patrolling car.
Together we can make SJ/USJ a safer place for all
