Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Dhevasthanam chairman Datuk R. Nadarajah said in a statement that the Thaipusam celebrations would begin on the eve of the festival day when the silver chariot carrying Lord Subramaniam would depart from the temple in Jalan Tun H.S. Lee at midnight on Jan 28.

The silver chariot procession will take the usual route, accompanied by 100,000 devotees. The procession is expected to reach Batu Caves at 11am on Jan 29.

At 4pm the same day, the flag-raising ceremony will be held to mark the official start of the festival.

The silver chariot leaves the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple for the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple at 4pm on Jan 31.

The trackwork is completed but not all of the stations have been completed yet.

So 208 trains will run from Sentul directly to Batu Caves each day, plus 72 additional services.

Train service will be extended to 6am on the Friday night.

So what is the best day and time for us to visit Batu Caves?

There will be plenty of activities for the four days from 28/1 till 31/1 peaking on 30/1. Massive crowd on 30/1 especially but plenty of "kavadis" for you to see.
