anybody bought national/panasonic/technics products recently? i got a national iron on 26/9. came with a 1 yr warranty. or so it seems. at the top the first line of the terms and conditions of warranty say in bold "we guarantee the provision of free service for National/Panasonic/Technics products for a period of 12 months ....". at the bottom in bigger bold, it says warranty card expires after july 2003. :confused:how's that for 12 months? and coming from a mighty multinational;). a sign that globalisation stands for bully-ism?

You should lift up the phone and inform National/Panasonic about this because you will be surprised at how products these days actually 'cease' or have problems exactly after 1 year of usage and/or just after the warranty has expired!!
I had a camera that failed on me 1 month before the expiry and a watch that failed just exactly 1 month after expiry. I must say that both companies did honour their promise, and the watch company was really fair in that, they repaired my watch even after the expiry date.
Alternatively, you can go back to the place where you purchased the iron and get them to stamp the warranty card as per the date of purchase. This way, the Company must/will honour the warranty.
Thanks for the insight... I will be more careful with fine prints in future.

If Joker is trying to say that with the expiry of the warranty card, his iron is only guaranteed for only 10 months, then I think it is not correct. I believe the the manufacturer will still honour its 12 months period of coverage. Always keep the sales receipt or invoice as proof of purchase. I can safely conclude that Joker would have bought the iron from a very old stock inventory. That explains the expiry of the warranty card before the product's warranty. Normally, the card's warranty has a shelf life of 2-3 years. This is one of the ways a manufacturer controls how its product is being distributed and sold. On the same note, I want to share my recent experience I have with Carrefour. I bought a cheapo WEIGE VCD player which comes with a 12 months warranty which I said to myself "Well, if it koyak after 1 year, I will just throw it away". But to my surprise I never get to use it for 12 months. After exactly 10 months, the player has a technical problem. I took it back two months ago for warranty claim and it has not been returned to me till today. I called up Carrefour last Saturday to check and the answer is still "Encik Yeoh, VCD anda belum balik." I heard that every 2 weeks for the past 8 weeks and I wonder whether it was sent back to China for repair!! "Bila dia akan balik?" I asked. "Oh, I tak tahu" the sweet young thing replied. "tapi saya suggest awak sendiri pi sana ambil." And when I asked for the address, she provided one in Jalan Pudu. Gosh, this is what we call Customer Service. Meantime, you maybe wondering how I survive without a VCD player. No.....I was not so stupid to wait that long. I would have gone insane from the harrassment I got from my children. I went out to buy a new one and you guess it correctly. It is not a WEIGE and again you are right, it was not from CARREFOUR.

ah! carrefour - my favourite ;) ! my neighbour asked me advice on getting a pc (not yeoh). then carrefour advertised pcs from rm1500. so after gulping down our dinners, i dragged my relucant family in wet weather along with my neighbour to carrefour, osme 18km away. and guess what - the cheapest pc they had was rm1999. they dread that day and every top fella on duty that night must have lost all their precious 40 winks. i can't remember all the fantastic odd wierd funny far-fetched impossible reasons they gave me. i did not insist on them proving me wrong - i demanded and i really demanded in full sight of a mushrooming crowd of kpcs (much to my delight and to their blushing faces) for a copy of the ad. of course i got my way, even if it was already 5mins to closing time. i proved them wrong and gave them an english lesson. i gave them 24 hrs to respond and that they did. my neighbour did not get the pc, but the cordless phone in my house is courtesy of carrefour.
anyway, to be fair, carrefour's ads in the media should be the standard bearer for advertising. in the above case it may have been an honest mistake but they kiddie way they tried to buy their way out irked me so much that i could not resist putting up a show.
