This has nothing much to do with SMK USJ12 per se but definitely interesting...

In case anyone doesn't know of it yet, you can check the kids' marks, position in form and class and overall %....just like an online report card. I'm having fun and my kids are cringeing...

So the website would have all the students' school results! Does this apply to all schools?

Does anyone know whether SMK USJ 12 will be offering Form 1 Science and Maths in English or BM yet or when will it be known? Since it is a cluster school now, hopefully they'll offer the 2 subjects in English.

Technically, it is supposed to as part of the computerisation programme of the school nationwide ... I checked for my son and his friends ... ALL BLANKS although the names and personal details are all in .... guess the teachers "GOT NO TIME" for this ... :D

Yep, Lick Hung teachers especially would have no time. Weird system nowadays, as the Forms 1 & 2 just finished their exams after Deepavali and they broke off for holidays one week before the official last day (18th) , without getting their report cards.

Is this always the case for secondary school or just this year?

It was mentioned at the Form 1 orientation yesterday that Maths & Science will be taught in either English or BM , based on which language that the students in that particular class are better at.

Wonder why they are doing it this way, as I understand that SMK Seafield had already decided on English as the medium for teaching Maths & Science. The logical conclusion is that students would be better at grasping the 2 subjects in English as they would have learned those 2 subjects in English in primary school.

Why can't they just decide on English as this was the preferred language based on the survey carried out during the registration and also the language they have been taught in? Why would they want to go into the trouble of teaching the 2 subjects in Eng in some classes and BM in other classes?

Concerned Parents of Selangor do not understand why in spite of the majority of the parents wanting the teaching and learning of Maths and Science to be in English, the principal of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan USJ 12 has decided to do it in Dwi Bahasa for reasons known to herself. To add salt to our injury, they are only giving the students the BM books although they have the English books in stock. When questioned, the Assistant Principal confessed that the State Education Dept has directed them verbally to give out only the BM version. The parents were also doubtful that the teaching will be conducted in dwi bahasa in the true spirit.

Thus, many parents have approached their ADUN YB Hannah Yeoh to intercede for them. They have also approached us as Concerned Parents of Selangor for help. With that in mind, we have planned to have a gathering of all concerned parents to meet in front of the school this Saturday, 7th January at 10am. We will be distributing the notice calling for the meeting at the school gate at dismissal time tomorrow and again Friday. We were assured of a good turnout as all parents treat education of their children as key for their future development and advancement. We have invited all major Press and NTV7 and Astro Awani news team to cover this event as we hope to draw the attention of our beloved PM to hear our cries.

Time and Date: 10.00am Saturday, 7th January 2012
Place: Outside the school gate of SMK USJ 12

We will be there with banners and placards. Please invite all parents you know to come out in strength.

Thank you

UPDATES
I have checked with a few parents and they confirmed that their children were given the English textbooks on Wednesday and those who still have not got theirs were told that arrangements have been made for fresh supplies. Lately, bravo to some of the parents who have been putting pressure on the pengetua. If not, the school will buat tak tahu about handing out the English textbooks. Anyway, they have been faithfully following the arahan from the State Education Dept. without given much thought whether they made sense or not.

The gathering will still be held tomorrow to demand that PPSMI be reinstated in full for not only this school but all the schools in the country. In the case of SMK USJ12 where the principal has decided that the teaching and learning of Science and Maths will be in dual languages, the students were told that the lesson will be conducted in English but the Bahasa Malaysia text book will be used as a basis of teaching. This is their defination.

Today being the end of the first week, I spoke to 2 Form 4 students who were taught Sc & Math in English and using the English textbooks while in Form 3 last year. For Form 4 this year, they will still be taught in English but this time they will be using the Bahasa Malaysia textbook. They said that the students are finding it illogical to follow their lessons. What they heard in English is not in sync with their BM textbooks and much time was wasted and confusion arises. And their school bags weigh a ton now. They even said, "Our principal is bodoh punya Pengetua." When I asked them whether they are willing to repeat what they said about their principal regarding her 'bodohness' which is the truth to the Press and NTV7, they replied "No uncle, you want her to give us demerit points and even sack us from the school?"

I know the boys are speaking for the majority and I was only joking with them. I do not wish to drag them into trouble. Afterall, they are the pawns caught in this game between this DPM Muhyddin who also happens to be the half past six Minister of Education and the parents.

Watch out for further updates. But remember this date

You can click the link below to find out how effective the protest is.
http://www.usj.com.my/bulletin/upload/showthread.php?34186-SMK-USJ-12-PPSMI-story/page2

The protest you help to organize at usj12 school bring immediate results. My son in form 4 has got his maths and science text books in english. Thank u for all the hardwork done.

The above is one of the many sms (which I have forwarded as and when I received it to the ADUN Subang Jaya YB Hannah Yeoh) that were sent to me by parents many expressing how grateful they are but more importantly how relieved they were. All Form 1 and Form 4 students are now taught in English for Maths and Science and they were given the English textbooks for both subjects which the teaching will be based on. They will NEVER NEVER NEVER revert to the Bahasa Malaysia textbooks which were handed out to them when they began school last week because all them have returned* their Bahasa Malaysia textbooks to the school as requested by the school!! Praise the Lord. So it is PPSMI all the way and no turning back. However, the workbook will be in dwi bahasa (meaning the same question is asked in English and Bahasa Malaysia) which the students can opt how they are going to answer the questions. That I feel is OK.

I strongly suggest that all parents now pay particular interest and attention in their children's study and report here if there is any deviation which there should not be. The Minister of Education has empowered all school principals to make a decision on the language used and it is our duty to ensure that this decision by the SMK USJ12 school is final and is followed strictly.

* In my earlier posting No 24 where the man in orange striped T-shirt who said he wanted to 'throw' the Bahasa Malaysia textbooks back on the principal, well, he didn't do that. You must excuse him for during that time he was very angry. But he is a gentleman and his reason for wanting to do so makes sense. Honestly speaking, I was ready with my digital viewcam and looking forward for him to do that and then upload my video on You Tube. I understand his son happily and gladly has returned the Bahasa Malaysia textbooks to his teacher. Habis cerita.

SMK USJ12 PIBG Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Time: 8.30 am (starts with registration)
Date: Saturday, 25th February 2012
Place: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan USJ 12

Attention all parents. Please attend to support our candidates to sit in the PIBG Committee to represent your interest. We have informed the school via the response slip on two issues. Please share this with other parents and ask them for their support.

Issue 1
We want to pass a resolution to uphold the Learning and Teaching of both Science and Maths in
English indefinitely. Forget about Dwi Bahasa as it can be abused. And no such thing as teaching in English but use Bahasa Malaysia textbooks as what the Guru Besar wanted to do last month until the joint action of the concerned parents made the school revert to using the English textbooks.

Issue 2
That the PIBG Committee be elected on an annual basis and NOT biennially. Last year it was suggested that the office bearer hold office for TWO years based on the reason that it was difficult to do things on a one year basis. But I say this. If we find dead wood office bearers in the committee or a Chairman who pakat with the Guru Besar all the time without taking the interest of the parents, we cannot get rid of such nonsense and have to bear with them for another year. But on the other hand if the current office bearers are productive and need more time, they can always offer themselves to be re elected. If they are good, I don't see any reason for not electing them.

Noticed that my son who is in Form 1 this year has very little homework and assignments compared with the FORM 1 last year at the same school. Wonder whether this is due to different teachers or the difference system practised as this year's batch of Form 1 students are not required to sit for PMR.

I heard that to get into SMK USJ 12, a USJ 12 address is more "desired".
USJ3 tends to end up in SMK USJ 4.

As for remove class, I am not sure if it is something that you apply to join in.
Usually, depending on the UPSR results, if the child fails BM then likely to get assigned into the closest school with remove class.
Otherwise, all start from Form 1.
I also heard that some "fail" cases could still appeal and based on school records that indicate otherwise, may get
to be exempted too.

I don't think you want your child to go into remove. If BM results had not been encouraging, better to prepare adequately
to at least pass the subject.

Hi daphine, is better to have a usj 12 address to apply but I would like to share with you that chances of getting to usj 12 is not easy because that school is always full, but do try ya.. There is no remove class in this secondary school.
However, usj 4 and subang ss14 have remove class.
