Suggest not too long. Last year, I did a 3 weeks long revision with son. At the end of 3rd week, he seems to be so exhausted and almost giving up. Perhaps 2 weeks is just nice. Or maybe my son's stamina is not there yet...

Class photos for Std 2 (taken yesterday)

I just remembered that my son mentioned that class photos for Std 2 were taken yesterday (9th February) !! He was a BLOODY MESS ... but he was happy coz this time, he was seated next to his "girl friend" wor ...  :p :D

Please check with your kids if their class photos have been taken as well. I am very surprised by the lack of notice for Std 2. I remembered last year in Std 1, the teacher mentioned to all the kids to come in clean uniform, hair done up nicely and clean shoes ... this year for Std 2, not a peep .... :(

Std 1 Parents - TAKE NOTE - exam format for KSSR may be different

Although I will email to all that requested for the past year papers (I have send the first batches out and am still searching through my archived hard drive for more ... ;) ) - please take note that as your kids are sitting for KSSR (new syallabus), the exams etc may change .... best is to wait until the "mini mock" normally conducted a week prior to actual exam to get a true feel of the KSSR exam format.

Attention Std 1 (2011) Parents

I have got some past year papers for Std 1 in digital format (PDF). Although the syllabus have changed from KBSR to KSSR, if you are interested to have them, please PM me your email addresses.

Std 2 Parents

I am in the process of trying to secure some past year papers for our kids, if I am successful, I will let you all know :)

NOTE: IMHO, the objective of past year papers is not to spot question but to familiarise the kids with exam format and scope of exams - so any year will do :)

With reference to the above, I realised that some of the readers may not be registered forumers, so cannot PM me, so you can also email me: currymee88@gmail.com :)

Blanco - progressing slowly - doing it in terms of exam priority (based on time-table) :p Fingers were aching last night hahahaa .... 2 papers done !! :D

It has been DONKEY YEARS since I used to blanco something - last time was before computers and printers and now digital copies ... walau, :D Talk about "flashback" in retro-technology .... :p

Nowadays, I even hardly print except for my son's exam papers and school stuff, everything else is DIGITAL copies and email - even billing, invoicing, banking, bills semua DIGITAL, hahaha .... I only use my pen to sign cheques and that one only for Lick Hung/Kuo Liang !!

A few parents have asked for the past year papers which I am more than happy to share but can you specify:

1) Std 1 or 2 ?
2) Your email - must be able to receive file sizes beyond 5MB attachments - I have got a few rubber bounced emails !!

I should have the Std 2 English, Maths, Science and Moral past year paper (2010) ready by Monday :) I will be emailing everyone on Monday the second batch then :)

For the Science and Moral papers, I noted that a couple of questions cannot be "blanco-ed" due to the fact the answers were fully coloured in (hence too messy to blanco) ... so "free marks" for your kids then !! :D :D

Your son in Std 1? Then, my guess is your son is studying in 1 or 2nd class, where pressures are.... I don't recall my dotter ever showed me 10 homeworks with average of 4-5pages! :o

Looking at the exercise book and work book, large space and usually double spacing... 4 to 5 page is about 1 1/2 page :)

You should not complain about so much hw infront of them or they will take it as an excuse... what parents show... what kids learn...

There are certain food wifey dont like... so kids will also dislike ... but I slowly, let them taste those... so that they wont be fussy eater later on... :D

Son (std 2) this year, did some of the HW at school instead of playing in class in school. So when he returns, he only do one or 2 of the balance HW and usually finish by 9.30 (1 hour) and can play with his Ben10 stuff.

Dother (Std 5) this year on the other hand participate in dances and other stuff usually have to do HW till 10.30 without TV.

Precisely.. I know some parents would beat the clock and queue up even before the teacher starts the registration..... It is like first day of registration, all the students wll be put to class A, B and C ... to illustrate.. the first student will go to class A and second one will go to class B and third one will go to class C... fourth one will go to class A again... and go on .... ;)

Dear Std 2 Parents,

I have already emailed to you all (those that requested earlier) the remaining 4 papers - if you have not received them, please let me know by email. I hope I did not leave anyone out in the second batch of emailing. :)

Please note that the MATHS paper is a bit blur when printed out - esp the PLUS and MINUS signs ... so you may have to "touch up" a bit after printing - it looks ok on screen but when printed out, blurred a bit. :o - well, at least, on my printer :(

Motives - ???

I got an unpleasant email (non-forumer, I presume but he/she is a guest reader here) asking me what is my motive/gain and how much I charge for the past year papers ? How can I justify making money from selling Lick Hung's intellectual property ?

My first reaction was: WTF !!  Why is this world becoming so cynical and calculative ? FYI - I DO NOT CHARGE ANYTHING or steal anything that is already in the "public domain" - all I am doing is sharing with the other parents our knowledge and resources for the benefit of our kids in school.

Really got my blood boiling

It is not my problem if no-one has ever helped in a community manner before in Lick Hung. There is always a FIRST time for a good change. FYI - not all parents in Lick Hung are greedy, money-focused, kiasu and selfish ... I really hate this snide remark

Some people believe in sharing and helping out, some don't, well, different people, different strokes .... if you wish to take part and be part of the community, please do so willingly, you don't have to ... just don't belittle others who wish to participate.

Currymee,

Just ignore such remarks and people. Selfless acts and community services are usually met with skepticism in our cynical society today. Some people cannot comprehend the concept of community and charity. To them, everything in life is measured in monetary terms. All deeds are measured in "What is in it for me? " mentality. Sad ... :(

Humanistic and decent values have diminished too much in the current competitive "kiasuism" society. I support your efforts to try and change the mindset and nature of cooperation with Lick Hung parents.

I think the Std 2 parents are the luckiest lot in Lick Hung for having you around the same time. Pity that the parents in other Standards do not see fit and the "light" in furthering the idea of sharing and networking.

Mommy and Cikgu Fong,

I am just mentioning it here as I do not want any others to have similar thoughts. What we are trying to build here is a Lick Hung education parents support group/community. Naturally, there will be some who contribute more than others but it does not mean that the others views and opinions are not important - everyone has a role and part to play, and we assist each other as and when we can. This year, I have managed to get access to some past year papers, hence I am sharing them. Last year, during Std 1, another parent (Birdy) has managed to do the same for us here. Likewise, later on, other forumers may be able to assist when our sources "run dry" (hopefully not !!)

Checked with another parent whose child is in the same class as my son, apparently, the 1.4 to 1.6 are SUSUN AYAT (rearranging words) exercises and part of the exam which they are being taught now and will be examined. The "memorising" portion of Bina Ayat remains the same 1.1 to 1.3

That is better than my son - exercise books are still with teacher !! :( So, just have to depend on past year paper until he gets the book back, hopefully tomorrow. However, based on last year's experience, it should be 1) susun ayat 2) susun ayat based on picture story 3) arrange sequence of ayat based on picture story - hahahaa ... this daddy is getting good on Lick Hung exam format !!! :p :p :D

Currymee,

Based on what you have posted, my question is "How reliable is the exam scope notice given by the school ? " . My wife is following diligently the scope given in preparing our child for the exams. Are such surprises normal ? Some of the children in Std 1 can be "blur-sotong" as it is their first time, so how can we expect them to know any changes or even remember any of the the teacher's new instructions ?

Errrrr .... it is a GOOD GUIDE ... 100% accurate - NO !! (maybe around 95%) Why ? The material taught in school and the exam format that they are being examined are slightly different. Hence, past year papers are important not in terms of spotting questions but to know the format ....

One example I like to highlight is in English - the school material teaches them in terms of communication/conversational format and reading style with no direct emphasise on Grammar BUT in exams, you get questions testing them directly in Grammar :(

So, in your child's case, while general reading and revision should be done as per scope, I do suggest that you have a good look at the past year paper on the exam format and familiarise the child with it - last thing you need is the child knowing and understanding the material but do not know how to answer coz they have never answer it that way before - format error.

Another thing to note - Lick Hung teachers love to switch (read: trick) between ISIKAN, BULATKAN, GARISKAN and WARNAKAN the answers ... just make sure the kids know the difference in 3 languages !!! :p :D :D They will penalised about 2-3 points for wrong instructions !! My son lost a lot of points last year - still blur !!

Dear parents, so far I followed the syllabus that was stated in the exam format and it works well. Like CM commented, also look at the pretest that the children will have few days before the exams. That is also a good guide.

Bro,

I think susun semula ayat is without picture…

And for bina ayat, there are 3 types :

Bina ayat berdasarkan 1) perkataan, 2) gambar, 3) gambar dan perkataan

Cheers

Correct 100% and PLEASE BEWARE that for Bina Ayat, the teachers are known to be sneaky  to mix and match the words, pictures, etc .... the words can be anything from the exercise books (around 90%), text and activity book as well .... there is usually one or two really tricky ones !! :p

Information (Urban Legends/Myths) for Standard 1 (2011) Lick Hung Parents :D

I over-heard a number of new Std 1 parents at Choy Kee just now discussing a few things that we went through last year. Some of them sounded quite concerned. So, I shall clarify a few of these questions/urban legends for you all :p :D

1) ALL EXAMS COUNT - in Lick Hung, all 4 term exams are counted in the FINAL class average (end of each term and year) - forget what anyone said about only the last 3 or 2 are counted/averaged and that the first one is a freebie ... no such thing, every single exam counts and carries equal weightage!!

2) NO STREAMING - whatever class your child is in now, that will be his/her class "alphabet" and classmates they will be with for next 6 years, so if your child is in 1G then in future 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, 6G ... if he/she comes first/last in Std, still no change, no "promotion/demotion" ... this is the current rule to date ... of course, the school management reserves the right to change but this has not been the Lick Hung practice for donkey years.

3) Students CHANGING CLASS - yes, it does happen ... usually ONLY IN DISCIPLINARY CASES ...

4) To date - Std 1 and 2 are in afternoon (until/if new classroom block is ready by 31st Dec 2011 - I think it will take a miracle to happen now !! :p ) - Std 3-6 are in the morning session.

5) Std 2 will be on the SECOND floor (if new school block not ready) ;)

6) Students who don't do well in exams WILL NOT BE EXPELLED but teacher will have a talk with parents when you go and get the report card, asking you to help them buck up or go tuition. (I kena this last year :o !!)

........

PS: Oh ya ... thank you for those nice compliments about currymee :D - no, I don't plan to reveal myself or join the PIBG .... ;) :p so, please don't ask even if you think you know the parent that could be me !!

HAPPY 15th DAY of CHINESE NEW YEAR (CHAP GOH MEH)

Last day for "heavy" (read: high sugar, high cholesterol laden) CNY dinner, ang-pows, fire-crackers and well-wishing for 2011 :) Well, since most of us here are parents with kids, I think going out and throwing oranges in the hope of getting love is out of the question, unless you are courting trouble ;) :D !! - just kidding :p So, stay home and do revision with the kids !! :)

Today is a school day at SJKC Lick Hung although I heard in some other schools, they may be off for "cuti peristiwa" .... hmmmmm .... banyak cuti for all sorts of reasons nowadays.

To date, I have emailed the past year paper to 39 Std 2 and 18 Std 1 parents - so technically, there will be 57 kids "HATING" me in Lick Hung for the additional revision work - hahahahaa .... :p :p :D :D

Well, if my daughter-in-law has not done so, let me thank you for emailing the past year papers - I saw my grandson busy going through them last night and he was happy that he has managed to "score" well - a real boost to his confidence :)

Cikgu Fong,

You are most welcomed. BTW, all the parents that have received the past year papers had said thanks :)

I got another "funny" email - more "polite" this time hahhaa .... :p This one asked me that by giving away the past year papers, wouldn't I be giving away any "competitive exam advantage" that my son will have in the exams over the rest of the students ?

Aiyoyo .... please-lah, it is just a school exam NOT life and death  - don't be so kiasu, it is way too early !!! - I measure my son's performance against his own self-set targets - I don't give a banana/monkey to class/std position and I am not interested in the Lick Hung's plastic trophies/certificates or presentation days. If he gets any of those, I consider them a bonus. :)

As long as my son demonstrates to me his level of competency and understanding at each stage and achieve his set targets - to try and get an "A" in every subject (85% and above), I am satisfied.

Sharing and networking is something Lick Hung parents should do more often to counter the entrenched high level of kiasuism and ultra-competitiveness. I don't want my son to grow up to be anti-social, selfish albeit successful person - it is unbalanced and unhealthy !! There is more to life than money and success !! (at least that is what I am teaching my children, don't know about other parents)

Hi,

Welcome to the forum :) Firstly, what Std is your girl in now? Std 1 or Std 2 ? Since school has just started then just go with the flow - classes have just started for 6 weeks and easy to catch up.

One of the best way that I can think of is to get her to work through the daily school homework and extra workbooks at home. There are many different type of books in the market.

However, looking at your situation, I think the type of workbooks that follows the school syllabus on a topic by topic basis will be best - the one I can recommend is the "SMART PRACTICE" series published by Oxford Fajar. This particular series of workbooks follow the syallabus very closely and nicely and ideal revision tool. The workbook also come with answers so you can teach them to your girl.

You can just go to the bookshop near Lick Hung (Casamac) near the Sports Toto, and ask the lady-boss (Mrs Chong) to select them for you. It is also available in Popular and Big Bookstore. If I remember correctly, it is RM4.50 each title and the complete series cover every subject except Pendidikan Moral - for Moral, the best book that my wife likes (I don't read Chinese, so no comment here) is the workbook by Hup Lick and Gemilang.

This one I fully agree ... my wife (SJKC-educated) drilled that into my son last year, so now, not so teruk, and the "tolerance level" for homework/revision has gone up ... now my son expects to do some work/revision DAILY ....

Not only you, every parent that I know, the blood pressure has gone up a few notches :( ... you are just like my wife leh ... she has started to shout and scream for the last few days ....

Bahasa Malaysia will be tough for SJKC students due to the depth expected in syllabus and the poor teaching standard .... to be honest, I really don't like the school's method of expecting the children to memorise the Bina Ayat - this rote learning will "kill" the long-term understanding of BM vocabulary and sentence construction.

Not entirely true, Bro

I am not saying memorizing is the right approach… but to learn a foreign language, you have to start somewhere.

Imagine if you want to learn a foreign language like Japanese or Spanish, how do you start ? I am sure the memorizing part will have to play a role in the early state. If an educated adult have to memorize the vocab and the structural composition of a sentence, just imagine how a 6-7 years old kid can construct a sentence (bina ayat) at their age with such a short exposure to the language.

I quoted the above reason may be due to my Chinese background. In learning Mandarin at the formative state, memorizing is essential to build foundation.

Cheers

Exactly, that is why until today, I always "bitch" about the stupidity of the syallabus requiring the kids to BINA AYAT from Std 1 onwards and whatmore being examined on them automatically forces the kids to memorise than understand - the time is better spend teaching the kids penjodoh bilangan, kata kerja, kata hubung, imbuhans etc etc .... once they have mastered those "grammar" sections, they can build sentences naturally ....

This short notice is to inform that tomorrow is a SATURDAY CLASS (use TUESDAY's timetable).

A reminder: For the first-time Std 1 (and all other Std also) parents, PLEASE GO EARLY - it will be ONE HELL OF A MAJOR TRAFFIC JAM around 12:30-1pm as most parents will be sending/picking their children to/from school instead of using the daily transporters/buses - this is a regular Saturday class feature - JAM is 2X worse than regular days  :p :D You have been forewarned !!

Let me go and try get some clarification on this :D - so far what i know is that you can register online at: http://apps.moe.gov.my/esppsel/pptahun1/ but it seems that the website is not "ON" yet for this year registration - probably start in March OR you can go and do it in the school itself.

If going to school, bring along the following item:

1) Original Birth Cert & a photocopy
2) Proof of resident (electric/water bill original), Cukai pintu, S&P house rental
3) Parent/guardian IC (kad pengenalan)
4) Self address Envelope 4 X 9 with ** 50cents** stamp - (this is what I saw on notice - but I thought POS MALAYSIA'S POSTAGE has gone up   - not sure what is the new rate now - IF I guess correctly , should be 90 CENTS NOW  )

Firstly, as parents, we are members of the PIBG (PTA in Bahasa Malaysia) but we are not the POWERFUL "PIBG COMMITTEE" .... in Malaysia, the term "PIBG" is loosely used to refer to the PIBG COMMITTEE.

Yes, it is similar to overseas PTA .... the only major difference is that the once the PIBG committee has been elected, they will run everything without seeking any more parental inputs (except $$$$ :p ), all events are organised by them, parents just buy tickets/donations ... so if you plan to play AN ACTIVE ROLE, then the only way is to get yourself elected into the PIBG committee.

However, like Birdy said, getting yourself elected is almost next to impossible as the present committee (for the last few years) always quickly RE-ELECT THEMSELVES ... at last year's PIBG AGM, I just went to the toilet for 5 minutes, and when I got back, it was ALL OVER  the committee had re-elected themselves !!

I was just being "naughty" at suggesting that only "aspiring-MCA" politicians are elected and stayed on "forever" as PIBG and Board of Governors of SJKCs ... since in the past, MCA has always regarded the SJKCs and their committees as their "domain" or else, difficult for the SJKCs to get Govt (taxpayer - yours and mine) funding .... sad, but it is the racial-based Malaysian politics .... but let's stay out of that area in this thread or else KWChang will come and close shop on us !!

One of the reason why I choose not to stand for the PIBG committe is that I tend to have a very short-fuse for the stupidity of politicans (I used to deal with them for years - wasted a lot of time !! ), and in SJKCs, dealing with politicians to get the precious Govt funding (OUR MONEY BACK) is important ... I will be doing the school and all of us a disservice, if I blow my top as a committee member when MCA politicians start acting/talking stupid and lose us the money !! :o

Examination Check-list

I know this is "silly"/trivial to mention BUT I have known many cases of children, in their haste of last minute study/cramming FORGOT to:

1) Bring pencils and sharpener (sharpen ones - best do it before going to school) - if using mechanical pencil, forgot to bring spare leads

2) Bring erasers (No. 1 problem) - teachers don't like the sharing-sharing business during exams

3) Bring ruler (to connect/padan)

4) Bring colour pencils (sharpen also)

5) Eat a proper meal and drink water during lunch.

6) Clean the spectacles for those wearing glasses :p :D :D

7) MOST IMPORTANT - give them a kiss/hug and say "TRY YOUR BEST" !! :D - you have no idea how much pressure is taken off their little shoulders and how comfortable and relax they feel after you do and say this - HIGHLY recommended !! :)

& parents with kids studying in std 2 Lick Hung this year, do you agree that the chinese (esp the penlisan paper) this year has become much much more difficult than previous, what i feel is it's a sudden & deep dive of the level, instead of increasing the depth gradually....not only my girl having difficulty in understanding & remembering all those "chan yue" in her chinese bina ayat, the mummy also finding difficulties in helping her to understand & memorize same for the exam.

Already it's so tough in std 2, not sure how to survive in higher grades later :o I seriously need to find a good mandarin tutor for her...any recommendations ?

The more I read this thread, the more I feel like I am a lazy-go-happy father. :o

Let me share how we (me & wife) do revision for my kid.... We plan it this way so that it is easy for him and stress-free for us.

1.Every weekday after school , will spent about an hour at night to go thru the “tough” part of the homework. He has a choice to do the homework at night or the next morning.

2.I divide weekend (Sat & Sun) to 3 sections – morning, afternoon and night. He needs to study (homework or revision) for 2 sections, i.e. he has one section completely study-free.

3.During school breaks/holidays, he still need to spend one section of the day for studies (more for forward studies, i.e. something which has not been taught yet in class).

During the study-free time, he has complete freedom to do whatever he likes - read comic, watch TV, play Nntendo, etc.

So far, this arrangement is working quite well judging from his average marks and position in last year standard 1.

Cheers

I thought of that too, but an experinced mother once told me if I do that, my girl wont get full marks for the sentences she made in the exam. And the std (of the bina ayat) gets higher & highter as she goes to higher grades....therefore, it's better to start practising the full/perfect sentence while they are at stadard 2...but this is just the experienced mum's personal opinion & I agree so.

Well, I had to admit that I am a planning freak. :D

I always believe If you plan well, the difficulty/complexity can be reduced.

Among the 3 items I mentioned above, I emphasize the most on item (1).

Item (2) is a must when exam is coming (3-4 weeks before exam date)

And for item (3), I set a target of what he should acquire during school break. Once he achieves the expectation, I just let him has the rest of the holidays himself.

This is what I think when it comes to Bina Ayat in all 3 languages - I was told by a grandparent (ex-examiner) :D that the child must be able to demonstrate in the sentence they constructed that they understand the meaning and essence of the word and are able to use it correctly. Lengthwise is immaterial if the essence is well presented.

I am always wary of Lick Hung's tendency to get the children to memorise long sentences but rather encourage my son to construct his own sentences while achieving the aims of Bina Ayat.

Perhaps, i would say this is a perfect planning if mommy is not working full time. I have difficulties in doing this.
1. Son only have night with me as morning, I need to send him to day care while I go to work. He will usually finish his homework around 10pm & I will put him to sleep so that he wont be too tired after a whole day out of the house.
2. Weekend, Sat morning -> he will have activities; Afternoon -> sometimes continue with Friday homework or I will let him rest
3. Sunday -> Morning - will do some workbook; rest of the day- will let him rest

Parents, I hope I am not too lenient with my son...
Unfortunately, I know my son feel tortured of the past 1 week of me doing revision with him... :(
After this round revision which I find it very tough, so much tougher than Std 1 also its only few exercise, perhaps no more free time during Sat & Sun...
Agree with Rachel, the chinese is so tough & I have a tough time getting him the correct structure of the sentence. Similarly to Bahasa. Until now, Son still not sure how to answer Bahasa comprehension.
I just wonder how he can answer in his Pemahaman Bahasa next week.

Bro,

I agreed with you that it is too early to ask students of std 1 & 2 to construct sentence. They are still weak at vocab, preposition, conjunction, etc. in order to construct a sentence.

But since this is already an irrevocable part of the syllabus in BM and BC… I think there is no other choice but to memorize the sentences at this stage. Hopefully, when they are std 3 onwards, the memory in std 1 & 2 plus the better understanding of the language will help them in Bina ayat.

.... Similarly to Bahasa. Until now, Son still not sure how to answer Bahasa comprehension.

For BM comprehension, you have to teach him the "exam techniques" - how to identify keywords in question and look for them in the passage, and look one sentence above and below of the keywords in passage to ensure the full meaning/answer is obtained. At primary level, this technique should suffice until PMR :) :) - tried, tested and certified by currymee (who has been scoring As in BM all way :D !!)

Mommy,

I think Saga's main point here is CONSISTENCY and DISCIPLINE in doing daily work - apart from school homework, it is good to develop a habit in your son to include an exercise in all 3 languages from workbooks daily. That is what I do in order to maintain a level of fluency in my son - everyday besides homework, he has to do an exercise in one of the languages from the workbooks. Once he has started to develop this habit, then it is a matter of just stepping up during revision time for exams - less stress and torturing !

Since your son is in a daycare, do they include tuition, if yes, then you make a point to check his daycare/tuition workbook daily, and make sure he does something daily ... according to my wifey (who is an ex-SJKC, I am an ex-SK boy - play, play, play only :p !!) , success in SJKC is "consistency and discipline" in daily work.

Rhiga

.... success in SJKC is "consistency and discipline" in daily work.

Bro,

100% correct. This is the main reason I put my son in Chinese school instead of private school.

Consistency and discipline reduce stress and difficulty too...
How to instil consistency and discipline ? And what is the "appropriate magnitude of discipline" is really up to the parent's expectation and the kid tolerance level.

It is always good to start early i.e. from pre-school.

The bottom line is - there must be a balance between studies and play, and the kid is happy i.e. the kid feels proud of his hard work and he feel good he is not deprived from the fun of playing.

Not in my son's class - furthermore, I heard similar stories as well during Std 1 . I hope the school management who is reading this forum do take note IF such incidents do occur.

Personally, I am not too bothered as I don't expect my son to "win" any of Lick Hung's plastic trophies or end up in the top 10 of his class. It is more important that he learns the proper way of sitting for the exams instead of being happy at getting "leak" questions. :p

Yes, it is correct - if you look at the Std 2 past year paper around 20-30% of the exam questions are from Std 1.

How to revise without any books ? :) Well, I use the Std 1 Past year Science papers (esp the final term one) for revision instead of books :D :D - hope it works !!

I was also recommended a good 2-volume Buku Sumber for Science but I haven't got the chance to go and check it out yet. May I add, I want LEVEL PLAYING FIELD.

Please ensure this is practiced in LH.

Errrrr ... Bro, you may be disappointed here :p

Let me give you an example, long long time ago .... when currymee was just a small packet of Maggi Mee :p :D In his class, primary school, there were 2 students whose parents were teachers in the same school and lo and behold, they were always No. 1 or 2 in class for all 6 years !! Maggi Mee studied until almost botak and nothing to do with the MSG flavouring but to no avail, somehow, all those tricky questions, they know how to answer  .... however, when go to SMK, Maggi Mee "sapu" those two kaw-kaw .... and their performance dropped to middle of class. I have heard this story played again and again many many times throughout Malaysia and some say maybe in Singapore also ... , so don't expect "level playing field" except in PUBLIC EXAMINATIONS :p

I rather have a PUBLIC UPSR than a Lick Hung run-internal examination, hence I was not that keen on the recent Govt proposal (abandoned) to abolish UPSR and have school-based assessments.

I am not saying/implying that there is such improper actions by anyone in LH BUT the temptations are there .... after all, everyone is human and not robot (exception could be KWChang leh in moderating the forum ... :p :D )

Simpulan Bahasa for Std 2

Apart from what was found in the BM text and activity books - suggest you also make sure the kids remember some of the "old" Std 1 simpulan bahasa like:

1) Ulat buku - loves to read
2) Otak cair - clever
3) Cahaya mata - newborn
4) Buah tangan - gift
5) Berat tulang - lazy
6) Ringan tulang - hard working
7) Kaki bangku - don't know how kick a ball
8) Cakar ayam - bad hand writing
9) Kaki ayam - barefoot
10) Tidur ayam - light sleeper

etc .... :) I am in the process of looking for a good simpulan bahasa guidebook - simple, easy with examples :) Anybody got any recommendations ? ;)

Buku Sumber Sains (Buku 1 and 2)
Publisher: Gemilang
Price: RM14.90 per book

Saw the books at Casamac just now, RM14.90 each, bi-lingual (English and Chinese) KBSR and UPSR SJKC syllabus. A good book but maybe a bit deep for now - definitely comprehensive and covers everything. How I wish I had something like this long long time ago ... nice, colourful, well-explained. I got to ask the Science home-teacher (wifey :p ) first whether she wants or not as a reference and teaching aid for son. :D

Birdy, you may want to have a look at these books :)

thank you currymee.. this is really helpful... this had remind me about what to prepare for her exam..

Yes, well done Lick Hung :) - the excellent performance in UPSR 2010 must have helped a lot :) As an ex-teacher, I can say that RM700,000 is a lot of money for the school - hope it is well utilised and managed by the HM for the school facilities and rewarding the teachers, and not wasted on silly things like "new signboard" - Lick Hung don't need that.

BM and ENGLISH in SJKCs :(

Recently, after going through Std 1 and Std 2, BM and English syllabuses with my wife (by reviewing the textbooks and workbooks up to Std 6 in the bookshop), I have to admit that the teaching of both subjects are really poor. I know that the Lick Hung teachers are trying their best and have to follow the official syllabuses (so I am not going to knock them) but looking at the syllabuses, I think it will get a lot worse as time goes by .... with no future improvement in sight .... :( Malaysia's English teaching is going to the doghouse. :(

We are taking a big risk but my wife has told me to stop following the SJKCs syllabuses for both subjects and switch to using the Kebangsaan version for BM and the Singaporean Primary level (or use back the old 1970s Malaysian syllabus) for English. The gap between them and SJKCs are way too big. It will be detrimental to the kids if they continue to follow the SJKCs syllabuses for both languages. Even sending to extra tuition is not going to help as they will follow the same flawed syllabuses. (Note: During CNY spring cleaning, I found some of my "ancient" English textbooks & guidebooks - just need to dust them off nicely ;) )

So, I have just being assigned FULLTIME BM and English teacher for my two kids - home-schooling for these two subjects.

PS: We are not telling the kids or else they will not pay attention in class !! :p :p I am just sharing with other parents who may be feeling frustrated at what is going on when we review the kids' homework and start to notice the level of "slow decline" or lack of progress in both languages.

Sure, no problem :) However, I think I have mentioned bits and pieces about what sort of books I used or plan to use in the older posts in this forum. As for study plans, I haven't got anything solid worked out specifically, more like as I go along I improvise. I am planning to start a proper study plan next week or so, after the current school exams - first thing first ;)

I have to say that after posting what my wife and I discussed, I realised that I need to have a long term systematic plan of study especially when I am not a trained teacher in those subjects. I am just a well-educated parent in these two subjects long long time ago :) I have to try and put together the best possible method to learn English and BM from a few sources/syllabuses and based on my own experience.

Currymee,

While I admire your decision to take such a bold move, I do have a word of advice and caution for you to note.

Your son is going to sit for KBSR SJKC UPSR examination like my grandson. For better or worse, it is not advisable to stop or ignore the syllabus as your wife suggested. Yes, I do agree that the syllabus has gone from bad to worse but at the end of the day, that is still the syllabus that your son will sit for the examinations.

Hence, my advice is instead of not following the SJKC KBSR syllabus, DO ADDITIONAL SUPPLEMENTARY work using the Kebangsaan BM or Singapore's Primary Level English.

Malaysian Ministry of Education is too political in nature and implementation, that is the crux of the education problem  :( . Instead of maintaining or raising the high standard syllabuses and examinations of the 1960s and 70s, the Government had (and still does) chosen the path to "dumb down" the syllabuses and examinations instead of raising the standard of pedagogy.

This is to serve the purpose of artificially "improving" the education of the rural students when in reality, everyone is being "retarded" instead. I have argued this matter many times over the years of my service as a teacher but to no avail. I am happy that you and your wife are cognisant of the decline and are willing to take steps to remedy the situation for your children.

Good luck :)

Ask around, i hv heard of singapore standard tuitions to take the exams. There r also lots of sg syllabus books in popular summit. As long as your kids do well, he can go schooling in sg.

The asian scholarship was advertised few weeks ago in the star.

There r also australian based exam to guage his level with ozzie.

Cikgu Fong,

Thank you for the advice :) Yes, I do agree, it is better to supplement than replace altogether since the main objective is to strengthen and enhance his command and fluency of BM and English beyond the SJKC KBSR syllabuses.

My wife and I noted from our nephews and nieces that when they went to SMK, they were struggling with both languages as the depth was higher than what they had learned in SJKCs - they scored 6As and 7As in UPSR with As in BM and English, but struggled in secondary school.

We concluded that one of the main factor is the lack of systematic teaching and depth in the grammar foundation for both languages. From what we have seen to date in Lick Hung Std 1 and 2, the teaching of grammar foundation in both BM and English is shambolic at best and non-existent most of the time. Students are taught to copy, memorise and rote learn without knowing in depth why, where, when and how to use them. Wife said from her own experience, SJKC will teach these topics around Std 5 and 6, which is way too late by then ... the bad habits (common errors) and rots will have set in ....

Disappointed with Popular Bookstore "discrimination" :(

Yesterday, since I was at Sunway Pyramid for my weekly shopping, I went to look for some SJKC workbooks for my nephews and nieces who were studying in other SJKCs. Their mums asked me to help out

But as I was going to pay for them, I was informed by the cashier, that Popular NO LONGER GIVES DISCOUNTS for SJKC workbooks published by other publishers except their own (EPH) - btw, EPH workbooks are too easy for SJKCs :p :p

I asked why the "discrimination" (special treatment) against SJKCs - no reply just that this is the new order from HQ and cashier even showed me the official notice. As a matter of principle, I left the books and just walked out  and went over to Casamac (10% off) and got them instead !!

Yes, it is a free market, willing buyer willing seller, etc etc ... I know Popular can decide whatever business policies and marketing strategies that they want - I was just too disappointed that SJKCs were singled out for "special treatment" - trying to squeeze more money from the SJKC parents because we care for our kids education and buy more workbooks than SK ?

Bro,

It depends on what is the secondary education plan for the kid.

If SMK is not the choice for secondary education, spend less time on BM.

If Chinese independent school is the secondary choice, spend more time on Mandarin and do self-revision on English ( the Singapore Syllabus is a good practice).

If private/international school is the secondary choice, then let the kid have a good feel on 6 years primary Mandarin foundation, and spend more time prepare his English proficiency for secondary private school.

Cheers

That is a very logical and rational way to plan. I guess it will also depend on the financial strength of the parents.

Bro,

Unless I strike LOTTERY big time and can afford the International school fees, it will be SMK for my kids .... so have to start preparing them with a firmer and stronger foundation in BM and English than what the SJKCs are offering (not good enough - sad to say) :(

I heard that in one school near the The Mines area - the school fee is RM10K a month !!!

Both my wife and I have already ruled out Chinese Independent school or for our kids to try for those Singaporean scholarships that many Lick Hung parents are keen to try .... we are not that keen on the idea of the kids going off to Singapore or wherever before SPM / O-levels

Sure, money is always the deciding factor when making choices.

Chinese independent school costs much lesser than international school and their “standardized school exam” is widely accepted by many varsities in US, UK, Singapore and Australia as entrance qualification. The challenge is the English command of the students is weak. Students may (I think I would say very likely) uncompetitive during the interview for top varsity undergraduate entrance and scholarship.

International school, the fee is damn high (30-40K a year). The plus points are - wider exposure from the pool of students and from the school activities, good command of English and confident in communication skills which are the key factors in present requirement, apart from academic.

For those who manage to pursue undergraduate course in top varsity like Harvard, I noticed quite common they studied in international school before. I can be wrong but this is my observation.

Bro,

I quoted the two options (Chinese independent school and international school) because I just don’t want my kid to spend so much time study something which is totally irrelevant in his future pursue…. and to ask him to be good in three languages is just too much to ask regardless of whether he can deliver.

I went through the same curve from Chinese school to local varsity. I have A in BM and English but not Mandarin, and I really hate I spent so much time in studies during my secondary school time.

Thanks for the inputs and point of views - a few things for me to think over and ponder :) I have to admit that it has not crossed my mind that BM can be totally irrelevant in my son's future  I am of the old-school, the more languages you can master, the better it will be. So, if push come to shove and IF he is only strong in 2 langauges, I guess it is decision time.

After reading all parents concern about our kids secondary education, I should feel ashame of myself have such a pessimistic feeling whether my son can even complete his primary in Lick Hung.
It is only first term in Std 2, & both of us struggles through the first term exam... There are 3 more to go, and I wonder how we survive/scrape through.
Everyone is so competitive and I believe if either of us slack, we may not even scrape through UPSR....
Nevertheless, that doesnt mean he can stop studying, right...We dont have enough for private nor international, so its either SJKC or SK...
I have seen parents given their year 12 child to choose between Independent school & SMK. Wonder its advisable???

Relax Mommy :) ,

Your son just needs to find his confidence and self-discipline - you can help a lot by switching off all distractions - for example, in my household, when my son does his homework, the TV is OFF for everyone, everyone reads - whatever, books, comics, magazines, newspaper etc etc ...

Next is the discipline to regularly do at least ONE exercise chapter of workbook DAILY (yes, I am "cruel" :p ) - I only let my son off during ONE WEEK OF CNY, Xmas day, New Year's day, his birthday and during family holidays. If he doesn't finish this daily exercise, no games, no TV, no etc etc ... emphasise to him that it is his duty and responsibilty to study and do well in exams. That is HIS FIRST priority over toys, games, etc ....

So far, that works for my son since I started drilling that message into him since start of Std 1.

I think many of us have heard about the “Tiger mum” from US.

I don’t agreed with her in many of her teaching methods.

But one thing, I agreed completely – “she is the product of the good values such as hard work and discipline instilled by her parents. These good values will fade and will fade fast in her children if she did not do exactly what her parents did before”.

Of course, I always like to say the magnitude and how to balance it depends on different individuals.

Very very practical thinking, Sagamihara. Both hubby and I are working hard towards the 3rd option (private but not international school la), hopefully by when such private schools still teach KBSM syllabus. I know Sri KL has eradicated teaching KBSR in its primary school and it's now teaching cambrige international syallabus...

This is interesting discussion - should spin off a separate thread by itself.

I still opt for SMK. But a good SMK. One that offers healthy competition, spirit of learning, a good mix of races with a common goal to do the school proud.
Usually, in a good SMK, the better students from SJKC and SJK would converge and learn to mix with each other.
And SMK introduces a great variety of club activities / societies and a lot of free time for other interests - a total change from SJKC.

Chinese Independent High Schools have very long classroom hours. Total focus on studies covering Malaysian syllabus as well as UEC. Famed for Maths prowess but not necessarily conducive to produce all-rounders. And 99.9% Chinese, students and teachers. I think 6 years of Primary school in SJKC is enough.

Private schools - well, if they are to teach Malaysian syllabus, then might as well just go for SMK. If International, err ...not quite necessary. Still not too late to consider A levels, etc after SPM.

I think the opportunity to study together with other races and learn to live with each other, respect each other is important. The school is the best place to provide that.

While SMK can promote multirace friendship... I would say that their standards are far from SMJK ... I personally switched from SMJK to SMK, only realized that the pace is not there....eventually the child may be influenced and have no sense of urgency. I can be one of the victim for that. No one to blame but myself :o

I was quite shocked that during my time, some students still don't know how to do the addition and substraction. Yes. you heard me correctly. Our additional math teacher has to teach from the basic again, this made the more advance students especially those from SRJK and SMJK feel bored and loose interest in the school.

I for one would opt for SMJK, if not private school after my personal experience. ;)

Good idea :) We need KWChang (Admin) to do his magic then - how about thread title: "Choosing A Good Secondary School in Malaysia" ? I have already PM him.

I bought the books (without consulting the home teacher first - wifey  ) - ok, mostly in Chinese with smattering of English here and there. NOTE: I don't read Chinese, so it looks "deep" and comprehensive to me until .......

I gave it to the wifey, her first comment after glancing through it - good book but TOO EASY FOR LICK HUNG .... :p :D OK-lah, I better go and look for Form 1-3 (PMR) guidebook then to revise for Lick Hung exams  :p :p

While SMK can promote multirace friendship... I would say that their standards are far from SMJK ... Yes, agree in a sense that SMK can be a total honeymoon phase...a lot depends on the child to take ownership, unlike in SJKC where the teachers push everyone, the bright as well as struggling ones to meet the standards.
And, the mix of students are important. SJKC students will feel a sudden "emptiness" when they enter SMK - not much homework ! Some may rejoice :D some may miss the "action".

Registration for 2012 and 2013 Fiasco
- not the School or Teachers Fault - it is JPN Selangor !!

I was told by one of the teachers just now, there were a LOT of "black faces" when parents came to school to register their kids for 2012/2013 and were told to go home and register online first as required by JPN Selangor and with the Government system KO-ed, everyone lagi "black" :(

The teacher said no-one knows what to do next .... except to just wait for JPN Selangor to go online again and they cannot start without online registration and the printed forms.

Parents, PLEASE DON'T LEPAS GERAM (aka let off steam) on the teachers, some of them are just as pissed as they also cannot register their own kids too !! :p :p

JPN Selangor should be held 100% accountable - they should have TESTED the stupid system at least a few times/days before before going LIVE ... really dungus !!

Since the online system is unrealiable, the school should consider allowing parents to submit physical forms la.......esp those who were already there :(

I think they need the official PIN NO. which is computer-generated from online system ...... hence, no choice but to wait or until new directives are issued by JPN.

Well, two ways to look at it:

1) You can spend the whole half-day revising with your daughter - Science and Moral exams tomorrow :D - your daughter may not be too pleased if she knows hahaha ... I know my son will not be ... :p

DON'T FORGET:

1) Print out - 2 hardcopies (one for school, one for ref)
2) Recheck by going through the SEMAKAN (from homepage i.e. start again) - once registered the name should appear within 5 minutes.

Yes, moral subject is not in the calculation of average marks but it does have a role to play in the marking system of LH.

When more than one student have the same average marks (which is not uncommon), the result of moral exam will be used to decide the position of the student in class.

Cheers

Getting Known beyond SJ/USJ :)

Much to my surprise, my relatives and their friends at a recent BBQ gathering were discussing about Lick Hung (their kids are in Kuen Cheng, Han Ming, Damansara and Puay Chai) and this forum. They were saying that some of the parents in the other SJKCs like what is happening here and are trying to start something similar for their kids' schools - parents support groups. They asked me if I know about this sub-forum, I just acted blur and said "Got meh ? Must go back and check !!" :p

Some of them have even got the past year papers recently from me already - alamak !! I asked how do they find the level of Lick Hung papers - answer is quite tough especially the Chinese, Maths and Science - surprise, surprise  . It seems that other SJKCs are much more straight forward in the testing and not so tricky/sneaky.

Well, I think they will have a tough time as they don't have www.usj.com.my as the community umbrella forum - most are planning to use Facebook and are surprised that this forum is not on FB ;) Note: We are not on FB because we are part of the SJ & USJ community :D

PS: I also heard that the PIBG and school managment are monitoring this forum regularly as well. Now, I wonder if PDRM, Special Branch and JPN Selangor are watching also ... :p

My "adrenaline" level has dropped a lot today - esp after 4pm - knowing that my son's exams are over ! PHEW !! :p

No, I am not the "kiasu" type of parents BUT I do believe that the children should be made aware that studies are their responsibilities (not mine, I have done my share and term :D - that's what I told my son !!) and should be taken seriously. The only way that I know is to let them know that I consider it a serious matter - not play play, chinchai, chinchai ... so he has to pay due attention and seriousness to them. Thankfully, my son has understood this message late last year and has responded in a positive manner towards them.

Now, I am just relieve that it is over until middle of April .... the next round :p yes, for "newbie" parents - Lick Hung exams are once every 6-7 weeks !! ;)

PIBG 2011 Meeting (sometime end of March)

Dear Parents,

I hope some (if not all) of you will make some time to attend the PIBG. I can think of one pressing issue that I am sure will be addressed by the PIBG without having to ask. However, the lack of updates by them is most disappointing. :(

The issue: Progress of new School Block & Single Session 2012

I (hopefully We :) ) as a parent would like to know:

1) What is the estimated cost for new block? Please give as accurate a figure as possible based on quotation.

2) How much was collected from last donation drive in 2010 ?

3) I am sure there will be BIG pledges made by VIPs and those who want their names emblazoned on the school walls - so please try to collect the money/pledges upfront, I hope we don't end up like the stories I heard about SJKC Chee Wen where the contractors have to park bulldozers at the main gates to collect "bad debts" and big VIP pledges all "disappear" come collection time.

4) How much is the short-fall? Do you need another donation drive campaign?- Majority of parents don't mind donating/helping IF we know the funds collected are sincerely used for the RIGHT purpose.

5) Can the school meet the DEADLINE to go SINGLE-SESSION by 2012 ? if that is still the aim, when will the construction of new block start ? We are just 9 months away from Jan 1st 2012 !!

I am sure the PIBG committee reads this post, so please furnish all parents with an update in a PIBG notice update to be given BEFORE PIBG AGM. I am giving the benefit of the doubt that you are trying your best, so please don't disappoint as you are suppose to represent US - PARENTS !!

PS: I am also emailing this post to the HM.

Thanks but I declined as I do not want my "voice" to be silenced by the committee consensus - if you know how MCA (the Chinese political party) works, then the SJKCs PIBG are not too different, once the President/Chairman says something, everyone agrees to "curry" favours  Dissenting opinions are never welcomed.

I am just another concerned parent that the Lick Hung PIBG "seems" to only knows HOW TO ASK FOR MONEY/DONATION but does nothing to keep everyone informed as to what is happening or what they do with the money collected ....

I think they should provide a bi-annual updates (that itself will be a 100% improvement  ) for parents through notices that the children can bring home to us instead of "rushing" through during the PIBG AGM.

To be honest, why can't they keep the OFFICIAL school website up-to-date ? Sekolah Berprestasi Tinggi (High Performance School) & Kluster Cemerlang - official website, most information dated 2009 or earlier !! :o :o :o :o - see http://www.sjkc.com.my/school/lickhung/index.htm

By right, if they were doing a proper job in communication, this parent forum/thread shouldn't even need to EXIST :p :p

Let's give them (the current PIBG team) a chance TO CHANGE AND IMPROVE first :) .... I have highlighted a few things in my email to the HM and have hyperlinked the email back to the posts here - so if he is reading, as PIBG permanent committee member, I am sure he will know what to do ... we have given some constructive ideas, let's hope they take it up and address the concerns. We are not asking for unreasonable things or demands.

As the HM, I am sure he is aware that what all parents want is what is best for the school and the kids. For the PIBG, all we ask is to keep us informed and updated - beyond merely asking parents for money/donation which all of us have generously contributed. I am certain the PIBG can set aside some funds (a couple of thousands, if they seek professional webmasters) to keep the website updated and informative. It is important as that is NOW THE FIRST POINT OF CONTACT for most parents and a reflection of the school's image.

One of the main reason why I protect my "nick" is that I know some of the teachers in Lick Hung can be very "bitchy" - that is normal in every school - human nature lah  , I used to know back in my Maggi Mee days how one teacher always complained about a boy whose father was in the PIBG :( - poor boy - real mental torture from the teasing when he doesn't do well. I don't need my children to go through those "special" treatment.

If I do stand for the election in the coming PIBG committee, it will be as another parent in my own name and voice but not as currymee - currymee will solely exist in www.usj.com.my and for this forum :)

Anyway, enough about that, let's hope the HM will respond to the email and if he does, I will post the reply online for all. :)

PS: I am also emailing this post to the HM.

currymee,

FYI - Don't expect any official reply whatsoever from the HM or PIBG to your email or the posts here. They will be duty-bound by Jabatan Pelajaran Negeri (JPN) circulars that any public response must be done through official channels and this forum or email is not one of them. The PIBG AGM is one such channel and the other is PIBG public notices.

If the HM or PIBG were to response, they will probably talk to you personally over a bowl of currymee at Choy Kee instead. :D

However, I am sure he will now discuss about this during the next PIBG AGM as it is an issue highlighted to him but since you are "anonymous", it will not be as a response to you. As a matter of fact, he can choose to ignore the whole thing because HM and PIBG will only response to IDENTIFIED PARENTS with kids in the school (name and class identified). Those are the JPN rules (or at least if I recall correctly).

This is one of the reason why parents are so scared of the PIBG and HM lest they fear that their kids will be "victimised" later and yes, it does happen, unfortunately. It is all down to the HM - if he is open and constructive, no problem, if he is the vindictive type, well ..... I don't know much about SJKCs HM but it is down to the individual. Generally, most HMs are reasonable and fair and the queries that you put forth are legitimate queries.

So I suggest that you and the other parents who are concerned about these issues to raise them in the coming PIBG AGM. I will PM you on how to ask questions without "revealing" your nick ;)

Just heard from another parent that one of the Std 2 class teacher was absent for the last 3 weeks due to family bereavement .... my condolences to the teacher and her family :( .

She said how are the kids in her class going to catch up ? (Note: the parent's daughter is in her class). I said, "Relax, don't worry, I heard she is one of the best teachers for Std 2, everything will be fine." I added that they should be sympathetic to the teacher for her recent loss rather than worry about their kids studies - aiyoh .... please-lah, be a bit more kind-loving human and not so "kiasu". I said I can lent you my son's class books if she so concerned and worried. She kept quiet ... :p :p

m2b,

Welcome !! :)

This is where filling up the upcoming PIBG forms help !! :) We can highlight this as a concern and for the PIBG and school management to take note, so that when demolition and foundation construction begins, the whole place will be PROPERLY and SAFELY CORDONED OFF with proper barrier like those 10 feet or more corrugated sheets instead of just tarpaulin.

Noise - nothing they can do about it - I pity the kids .... :(

Dust - can be managed but I suggest for the kids to start wearing those "H1N1" masks for the duration of construction lest they get asthma attacks !!

I'm sorry to say this but I've attended this PIBG meetings b4 and the outcome was very dissappointing. It is soooo politicalize that you just don't want to waste your time over there. Questions not being answered or they will lead you to a very big round and inform they will take note but still no actions taken !

Sad to say, I agree with you - most of the parents that I have spoken has told me the SAME STORY - waste of their time, questions asked were NOT ANSWERED. A lot of them whom I met at last year's PIBG have told me that they are not going to "attend" the PIBG anymore.

This is a VERY SAD dvelopment for Lick Hung when most of the parents themselves abandoned the PIBG when they preceived it as "useless", waste of time, political and ineffective.

Wifey asked me if I will attend after hearing all these, I said, "of course" - I got a few things that I want to know and ask :D :D As for joining the PIBG Committee, I told her, I will see first on the day, if it is going to be as bad as everyone said, I don't think I want to be associated with them !! :p

Wifey reminded me that if I join the PIBG committee I will have to abide by the committee decision and consensus ..... mmmmmmm .... she knows I am always the maverick and independent minded type, who speaks his mind come hell or high water .... esp when "politican-wanna-be" starts talking stupid .... :p

We shall see on the day I replied ....

Best piece of news since CNY !! :D :D

My son is already starting to "help" me plan the school holidays .... go here, go there, see this, see that .... I said revise this and that ... he replied no need  :p :p I know his tricks, he wants to completely fill up the days, so no time to study !!! ;)

PS: I agree with him (but don't tell the wifey !!) ... time to wind down and rest for a while ... :p :p
