As far as I am aware, there is no mention about it by my son or from the parents that I have contacted after reading your post.
Thanks CM. I'm not surprise my blur boy hears/understands wrongly :heheheh:

My son in the sfternoon session bring 600ml to school and usually finish before recess! Especially the weather is so hot lately. I ask him to bring 1.2ltr bottle but he refuse cos too heavy to carry...it would be really good if school will provide water cooler for them to refill....
The cynical part of me would say and expect that the Lick Hung PIBG AJK and school HM reply will be: Are the parents prepared to donate MORE money to buy the water coolers machines ?
I do agree with the issue highlighted but knowing the school management ..... :( I still wonder what they plan to do with the RM300K (and growing) balance .... ?
For single session school of 7.10am-3.00pm/3.30pm/4.00pm, water is a very important issue for such a long hours school time practice.
I sincerely hope the PIBG AJK and the school HM pay attention to this issue and find a good solution to solve it.

Furthermore, IF school provides FREE WATER, canteen cannot make money leh ..... so LESS RENTAL and PROFIT cut for school ..... - This reminds me of what a parent used to tell me that SJKC Lick Hung is primarily in the BUSINESS OF MAKING MONEY FROM PARENTS ... educating the kids is done by the parents and tuition centres :D

Knowing many single-session SJKCs in KL & Selangor got water cooler provided and it is absolutely FOC. Hope the PIBG or HM can learn or refer how they build in and maintain the water cooler machine.
LH has many channels to earn/make money already, hope the water for pupils issue will not be a new channel for them to earn their profit. ;)
P/S: By the way, LH's canteen got selling mineral water?... If yes, what size & how much?

I got an email saying that it is UNFAIR and NOT NICE of me to make such allegations of the school and the PIBG AJK .... ok-lah, my apologises :o ... but I doubt this person has seen the Lick Hung PIBG AJK ACCOUNTS which I have for the last 3 years and for each activity conducted, the PIBG AJK makes 20-30% cut - so if that it is not making profit then I don't know what you call it - "toll fees" to walk through the main gates ? :mua-haha:
I just want to see them put the surplus money into good use for the school instead of annually going to China on "cultural trips" as one mum told me .... :p
PS: Since I have mentioned their "business-driven" mentality in PUBLIC, perhaps the school PIBG AJK may think TWICE in case they want to ask for more donation or thinking of charging for water leh, I will not put it past them, seeing how their eyes "light up" whenever they talk about $$$$ .... :D

I think a month back or so, there were Chinese (from China) teachers came visiting the school as well. Not sure if that is the annual 'teacher-exchange' program. But if that is the case, and the school really use it to exchange / learn / improve teaching , I support this. (if can go Finland and learn from them, I lagi support :P)
And as long as the $$$ are in the school account in the bank (for use during emergency, important since it's a SJK(C)), and not ended up in someone pocket, I can accept.

I was browsing the web page for SJK(C) Chong Wen, one of the school who has a "Caring Parents Team" 爱心爸爸妈妈团 helping the school. Sin Chew newspaper has a coverage on this wonderful team of parents.
And I managed to find their single-session time table :
http://www.choongwen.edu.my/2011/11/2012_15.html
http://www.choongwen.edu.my/2011/11/2012.html.
The school has implemented single-session for 12 years if I understand correctly. And it seems like there is no extra homework from the afternoon session, and they have homework guidance class by the teachers to help children on their homework; also I saw options to join co-curriculum (optional)... mmm...

All it takes is for the school PIBG AJK and management TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY and REGULARLY to the parents on progress, activities etc .... LH lacks PR Communication skills :( .
Sadly, the ONLY TIME LH PIBG AJK communicates with the parents is TO ASK FOR MONEY ... so what kind of impression does that give to the parents ??? .... Look, even until today, there is no proper mention of building progress, costing, who is the contractor, schedules etc .... and you expect parents to give BLINDLY ?
Now, they ask money for table and chairs - fine - How much ? Who are the suppliers ? Is LH getting a fair and good deal ? NO INFORMATION or FIGURES given !! No wonder every parents that I spoke to about the new block are "SUSPICIOUS" of hanky-panky business deals being done !!!!!
TRANSPARENCY and COMMUNICATION are the cornerstones of TRUST !!

For a 20 classrooms for yr 1 and 2 of 50 pax per class is equal to 1000 tables/chairs and cost maybe RM50 per set == to RM50K and with 3000 pupils contributing min.RM20 solves all the problem.

As far as I am concerned, the school and PIBG AJK are spending the PARENTS' MONEY !
DO spend them wisely and usefully and none of us of will complain. Many of us will be happy to chip in more donations.
DO be TRANSPARENT in the purchasing of goods and services for the school.
Keep us informed of progress and costing.
All that I ask is for the school NOT TO BETRAY THE PARENTS' TRUST WHEN IT COMES TO SPENDING THE DONATIONS from us - BE TRANSPARENT and INFORM US - Is that so difficult ?
If the school wants to SAVE MONEY and not print out notices to keep parents updated then post it on the school's official FACEBOOK page: www.facebook.com/myLickHung (from the HM's business card) - we can go and check there ourselves regularly.

In reply to a few PMs and emails that I got, please don't misunderstand my intentions or that I am school-PIBG bashing - I am not, I just want them to improve. There are shortcomings in communication but ignoring it or pretending that it is just MY "currymee" GROUSES is not the way to resolve it.
I know they are reading so I hope that they do take note of these "free" direct feedbacks from the parents "outside the gates" and in cyberspace.
I am one of these people who VOICE OUT WHEN I CARE .... if Lick Hung is not my son's school, I wouldn't give a monkey to whatever it does ....

Good idea...but with 3000+ children, you can't use that as it is not heavy duty.Drink fountain is the solution.

But the computer exam only based on certain pages indicated by the teacher isn't it? I went through the computer book with my son and revised particularly those pages specified by the teacher. There are all in Chinese that my son is having problem trying to remember the terms. But I don't pay too much attention on it :-p

Personally, I regard the following non-core subjects:
1) MORAL - something IMPORTANT for the kids to learn, cultivate and should be TESTED.
2) PE (Physical Education) - just GO and PLAY :D
3) Music - just GO and ENJOY and RELAX .... :)
4) Art - same as Music :D
5) Computer - just GO and HAVE FUN with it ....
Of all the above, as parents, we paid the MOST ATTENTION to MORAL and sit down with him and teach him, the rest, I told my son, just GO and ENJOY yourself .....
PS: Yes, I am posting at 4AM in the morning - cannot sleep !! :(

Any CONFIRMED news on Single-Session starting next term ?
I got a lot of news "outside the gate" saying that after the new block opening ceremony on 30th June 2012 (Saturday), single-session will commence the FOLLOWING MONDAY (2nd July 2012).
According to some of the parents, this is consistent with the announcement by the HM during the last PIBG AGM - which I did not attend, so I cannot verify :o .
Std 1 and 2 parents (currently afternoon session), you guys will be the first to be officially notified with a written notice if the single-session is to commence this July. Please keep us posted. If you do not know how to post up the notice online, just email to me and I will help you do it. I don't expect the Std3-6 to get any notice at all going by previous experience with the school's "penny wise pound foolish" policy i.e. Sports Run day :p

Ok, noted , curry mee. my girl is std 1, will keep you update about the single session. I am very concern about the children have to get adjusted to morning session. ha..ha.. some of frens suggest me to train her up during the holidays to wake up early... aiyo, children being chidren , holiday is a reward for them after 5 months of hard work..
I just hope with this new adjustment will not affect their studeis. morning wake up.. sleepy do to school, teacher also wake up early after 5 months afternoon school. so they sama sama adjust. Hope that teachers will understand the changes that small fellows have to adapt.
However, in my experiences with Lick Hung STD1 teachers, they are the best!!!! So far, they did a good job... keep up the good work teachers. Happy Holidays.. I am looking forward for this holiday.. a break for mew too!

Do you think they will force to abandon some pupils?

So far no notice given out yet. Will keep the community here posted if there is any.
I really hope the school could consider starting the single session next year because as many parents here have mentioned, arrangements have been made and the kids have finally settled in with the routine. Furthermore, there are other things besides equipping the classrooms with tables/chairs that they should really look into like having a good traffic flow control system etc. Maybe the school management are currently working hard on planning for the single session...so, thank you LH.
But since this affects everyone....the students, parents, teachers, transporter etc. Hope there is some form of communication circulated progressively to everyone.
Oh yes...i have to say this......HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all students, teachers and parents! We ALL need this break :)

IF I am being HONESTLY BLUNT then my answer is YES, it is true for some subjects esp English and BM, for God knows whatever reasons, they just cannot teach BM and English well enough to meet my standard. I gave up on the school on them and teach my son myself.
However, in subjects like Science and Maths, the LH teachers are GREAT at them., so no worries here.
Mandarin is a funny one, they teach the kids enough to pass the exams and score a "B" or "C" BUT to "ace" the exams, you need to go EXTRA ....

I am a little worry if I had make the wrong decision. Both my husband and I do not know any mandarin. Hence, it worry me if the school is not doing their part properly.

Let me be BRUTALLY FRANK - make sure you get your son a MANDARIN TUITION TEACHER/CENTRE from DAY ONE ONWARDS if both parents are non-Mandarin savy - don't hesistate, don't think twice, don't try-try and don't even think the school will help. (Note: It is not only at Lick Hung, it is the same at all SJKCs esp those in SJ/USJ)
Why ?
Speed, depth and homework esp from Std 1 to Std 3 !! If they survive and do well until Std 3, they will be OK, as by then, they will have mastered almost 80% of the Chinese characters required.
The speed and depth of Mandarin being taught at LH is "CRAZY", even my wife who is 100% Mandarin savvy and "aced" her Mandarin exams at all exam levels, was struggling TO TEACH my son to cope and my son is in the top 10 of his class in Mandarin as well !! And his BC Penulisan going to the dog-house as well. So, you can imagine the challenge ahead.
I am not saying that it is impossible for non-Mandarin speaking parents and children to do well, I know a few children who has done excellently well and when I asked the mums, their answers were 2-hours DAILY TUITION in Mandarin where homework are also being taught and checked.
So, BE PREPARED. I know a few children in my son's class who had dropped out as a result of their inability to cope with this KEY CHALLENGE !

I got a few emails telling me that I shouldn't paint such a NEGATIVE PICTURE of SJKCs ....
Ok, my apologies, I should not use the word "CRAZY" ... let me change to "INTENSIVE" , boleh ? ;)
Errrrrrr .... I am just TELLING THE TRUTH (from my obeservations and point of views as a non-Mandarin savvy parent) about SJKCs level, depth, speed and teaching of Mandarin and other subjects, and Lick Hung is supposed to be among the cream/best of the lot ....
As for ENGLISH, all schools in Malaysia following the Malaysian Education Syllabus SUCKS ... it is the FAULT of the syllabus .... no proper pedagogy and emphasis.

[QUOTE=nescafeADay;540819]....I just finished reading a book on Finland Education System and couldn't help feeling sad and sorry, for both the parents and children, and even the teachers who really have heart to teach, seeing how the politicians here sacrifice / sabotage our education system, just for their own agenda, and not what education is about.
To me: 教育的三大目的是:教導學生成為有用的人,這是人才教育;成為好人,這是人格教育;成為快樂且有悲憫之心的 人,這是人文教育。

Report Card Today
The children will be bringing home their report cards today.
I don't know how my son did it, but despite his BC Penulisan going to the doghouse, he still managed to get into the top 10 of his class !!
:)
Bro,
Congratulation to you and your son.
You deserve a good break for the dedication and hardwork..:)
I am having a terrible jet lag, that's why why I am posting in this odd hour...:(
As we were away for weeks, I have to check with a parents about my kid's performance in the class and I am "stunned" with the reply.
You know my expectation of my kid in the class is above average i.e. if there are 45 students, I am happy if he is in the top 20, anything better is bonus. For the past 2.5 years, he always in the top 10 and sometimes in top 5. I have absolutely no complaint and hope to keep it this way.
This time he is in a position that I don't prefer him to be there although I am truly glad he is there. To be frank, this time we spent the least time with him in revision and most of the preparation during the exam period was without our supervision as we were busy preparing for the break.
Primary school life that I envisage for him should not just filled with academic performance and academic competition. But to maintain the expectation when you are there I guess it is difficult to uphold what I envisage.
To a greater extent, I am not sure whether I am doing the right thing sending him to Chinese school although I was a direct product of the Chinese education.

Hi Lick Hung Parents, I hope that your kids are truly enjoying the break as they deserve it!
I am in the same position as 'Unsure' - my daughter going to Std 1 LH and I am quite apprehensive with all the experiences shared here. Thanks for letting us know. I guess at least we will be 'prepared' somehow.
Poor kids - they should really be enjoying their primary school days instead of being so pressured =( But what choice do we have?

This is what I think...
Am I rich enough to guarantee that I can support my girls to non-local University to study her favourite course if they can do well in studies ? No.
So private school/international school with more relax syllabus is totally out.
Sorry girls, like the rest of the not-rich children in Asian countries, you have to work hard to get good enough result, if you want to squeeze in the quota to local U, fight for scholarship to good Uni. ... this is provided they want to study.
If they are not so good in academy, what is the minimal I would like them to have, interest to Read, and to read in Chinese and English.
For Chinese, the exposure to their mother tongue, to know their root, learn the vast and rich Chinese culture and wisdom passed down since > 5000 years ago (well, there are not so good one as well, and be aware of it). The minimum, at least they must be able to read Chinese newspaper (新洲日报 is my recommendation).
Also, a lot of good ASIAN literature, wisdom of other ASIAN countries like Korean and Japanese are also translated into Chinese, so it's the key to the wisdom in Eastern world.
Then for reading in English, similarly it's the key to the wisdom in Western world. And actually, a lot of times, all those good books from the West are translated into Chinese as well.
That is the minimum I hope I can give them, if they are not good in academic. Like to read, and read a lot, for the betterment of themselves.
So, I opt for SJK(C) . And I told myself by choosing that, I must commit to help them, to learn to juggle their time, minimize the stress, nurture interest in reading .... etc... Whether to get top x or many A's, that is their call and their efforts. In this flatten world (globalization), this is what a not-rich mommy like me can do/can give.
mm... If I am loaded, very very rich, I have more options... and my kids can be more relax. Get results good enough to enter Uni is a bonus, if not, just take over family business, eat on my wealth. .. But then is that the purpose a person come to this world ? To enjoy and take no hardship, and demand the world surrounding them to serve them only?
I read Sin Chew and quite frequent they have articles, interview, discussion on issues faced by SJK(C). At least, the community are aware of the issues and trying to overcome. May be it's still not good enough for some, but those are the obstacles imposed onto SJK . A lot of teachers are saying, give me a class of 20 students, I certainly can give more.
Another view, LH has a lot of co-curriculum classes also, ping pong, badminton, dancing, chinese orchestra, karate, wudo, ..... My girl is going to give a 周训 next semesta, so something outside the book.
Sometimes, it's not whether SJK or SK, if a child didn;t do well in SK, parents will also fill up their time with tuitions / or at least expect them to give more time on studies. The whole ASIAN culture is exam result based. May be a bit different for me as we speak both Chinese and English at home, so easier to cope for SJK(C). But then, for English speaking children, is it easier to cope in SK ? May be. Since they are very good in alphabets already?
Another thing for me, does it mean sending our child to SK, when applying for local U, you are exempted from the quota ?
So, I made my choice...

I attended the pibg and questioned the ratinale to start in the single session in the middle of the year as we as working parents need to do arrangement. The reply was
1. You should have known it coz we were talking about it since last year.....hello, my gal only std one this year
2. You are not alone....other parents seem ok, so what is ur problem....
Until now, no letters...i think they expect us to do arrangement injust one night.....coz we r super parents

Hi CM,
Thanks for for your advise and being brutally frank (I like that). Honestly until today I'm not sure if I had make the right decision to enroll my son in LH. A challenging school that produces students with many As in exam but yet again I ask myself is that the kind of stress that I want to put my son through and end of the day what do I get beside the many As in exam (if he does well and what if he don't)? The feedback from his kindy teacher on his Mandarin is not so good mainly because of his attitude toward it. When it come to Mandarin subject, before he even try he will say I don't know or I'm not good. My plan is to let him try for 2 years and see how. If he really can't then I will move him out.
Good job and well done to you, your wife and son! I still have a lots to learn from mummies and daddies in this forum in motivating my kids in a positive way.
Btw, do you have any reconmendation of any good Mandarin Tuition teacher in SJ?

wongjie,
The incumbent school PIBG AJK and HM are very "smart" people (pity, they use their smartness for the wrong reason), they always hold the PIBG AGM meeting on A SUNDAY MORNING JUST BEFORE CHING MING ... so that rules out all the devout Christian parents (going to church) as well as Chinese parents who will be going for Ching Ming ... these are the "VOCAL" GROUPS of parents .... ;)
The rest of the parents, the HM will use "BN-style" threats via the teachers (give your children name, class etc and then during class, teachers will keep making snide/negative remarks to the child about their parents ... heard that many times already  ) to make sure the "VOTERS" toe the line and all the teachers also have to toe-the-line or suffer the consequences ... so to overcome the PIBG "choy-tan" candidate list AJK, a parent must be able to garner a team and at least 200+ solid confirmed votes.
Furthermore, it is not 6000 parents, each parent (HUBBY OR WIFE) is only allowed to vote ONCE (and not 12 votes even if you have A DOZEN kids) in Lick Hung ... so in reality, there is only 1,200 votes (assuming 2.5 children per couple) - and teachers make up 150 votes .... so only 1,000 votes available IF ALL PARENTS ATTEND !!
Like Jan .... I GIVE UP also .... :)

Like Jan .... I GIVE UP also .... :)
I got a couple of PMs asking me why I give up as it will be "easy" for me to gather the required 200-300 votes necessary by just openly declaring who I am and that I want to stand for PIBG AJK and bring along my team of parents ?
maybe, I can or cannot but it is of no interest to me ...
The key fact is that to do so would mean an ALL OUT OPEN "WAR" with the HM and the school teachers which as one forummer, Cikgu Fong once asked and advised me, "Is that what I really want with the LH PIBG AJK and HM ? "
My answer to him and to all the parents here is : No, I am not after any position whatsoever in the PIBG AJK or pick a fight with the HM. I just want the PIBG AJK and HM to DO THE RIGHT THING, THE RIGHT WAY, FOR THE RIGHT REASONS and to keep the parents' trust by COMMUNICATING BETTER. Simple request :)
They can keep all the PIBG AJK posts, glories, plastic self-congratulatory trophies, etc to themselves till Kingdom come for all I care. However, should they DO ANY "MISDEEDS", believe me, I will not hesitate to call in the relevant authorities to investigate them for breach of trust.
The PIBG AJK wants to represent the parents, please do so in the manner that we can be proud to be represented by you. Keep the stupid politics out !! You don't represent MCA or BN, DAP, PKR, MIC, KEY, MOUSE etc ... you represent the parents of Lick Hung, SO DON'T FORGET THAT !!

Don't worry, BM, Chinese and English are languages only. The more you practice, the more you read, you will find that all the languages are the same. The most important thing is that you need to put your children in multi-languages environment as early as you can.
I am not a local, but I still can teach my daughter BM and her BM results are always very good.

Use the school BM text book, let your son try to read out every sentence in BM and then in English and Chinese( he needs to do the translation in his head).
After a few lessons, you will see the great improvement.

There is a second page with a list of options and option E) is for you to donate without buying any tickets .... unfortunately, I don't see any option for NOT DONATING .... hahahahaha .... :D
However ......
This morning, my son said he would like to donate from the "prizes" that he got from the previous exam. I asked him if he is sure about this. He said it is for himself and his friends as they do not want to be "harassed" by the class teacher constantly and EMOTIONALLY BLACKMAILING them to donate for the school, saying IF they don't give, they don't love the school, they don't care for the teachers, their friends etc .... WTF !!!
After he said that, I told him - NO, NOT A SINGLE RED CENT to the school, if the teacher "harass" you like this again, TELL HER TO CALL ME IF SHE DARES and I will haul her, the HM and everyone involved to JPN Selangor and the police for EXTHORTION of minors !!!! BLOODY IDIOTS !!!!
I will teach them the meaning of the word "DONATION" the HARD WAY if they don't know or understand ....
I am ONE REALLY PISSED OFF FATHER NOW after hearing what my son's class teacher is doing to the kids .....

The school administrator and teachers… You guys are parents too and I believe you will be equally mad if your children are being “harass” in such manner in order to raise fund for the school.
The system and process for funding of Chinese school is the main root cause of this problem  plus the management/admin style of the HM - lack of transparency and lack of mutual understanding with the parents.
This is a government school, not a private school, and is a high-achieving school. If Lick Hung has to “beg” money in order to rasie fund for school extension, for school furniture, for school operating expenses. Then this is the end of any hope for this country as people will seriously and likely will vote by legs.

May I know do we still need to bring the exercise book (light brown and smaller compared to text book) used in 1st semester even though still got plenty of pages? Teacher will continue use it or we have to bring new exercise book for 2nd semester? sorry my first kid is in std one now and i know nothing about the practices in LH. TQ.

The small book - "Jia Ker Pu" (aka HOMEWORK NOTICE BOOK) - well, I do recommend that you continue to use the "old" one (from 1st term) so as not to waste (if you have bought a new one, you can keep it for Std 2 and don't have to buy then) but some teachers do insist that the children use a new one for 2nd term esp at Std 1.
However, if you are like me, I told my son that he should not waste, so he continued using and when asked by class teacher during Std 1, he told the teacher that his father said should not waste and teacher was OK with that.

Well, before school holiday I didnt order new 'jia ke bu' for my son since there are still lots of pages left in the old one. But yesterday he came back and said wanna get a new one cos his current jia ke bu all torn like salted veg. His new class teacher will scold him! Btw, his previous class teacher left the school and now he has a new teacher from LH. Wah, they all very scare cos my son said she is very fierce :-)
One thing I am very unhappy about is why come 2nd semester all the exercise books must change to new ones eventho still got a lot of pages left? Some not even used half of the book and teachers wanted them to change all to new books. Isn't this a waste? The whole world is promoting environmental green and yet the school is not practicing and not educating the young generation to go green?

Not the jia ke pu.. what i meant are all those exercise books (RM0.60/ book if not mistaken).. i noticed some of them not even use half of it, and my kid are not sure whether wanna to use new one or continue using.. hence, my kid bring everything to school today.. imagine old exercise book and new one... 20++.
if continue using, why we need to buy whole set requested by school in end semester 1...as i said, we are new parent in std one.. we just follow whatever school instructed..
do we have option to buy only those exercise book from "fan mai pu" whenever need it? although we already bought it whole set and was old story la.. but at least we know what to do in the future..pls advise. TQ.

Met my son's new teacher after school today. I asked for her contact number in case any emergency that need to contact her, but she refuse to give :-( she said if ur son cannot come to school for some reason, inform his classmate. If there is anything parent wants to ask the teacher, please write on a piece of paper and ask the kid to pass to her.
At the same time I asked about single session. She said it will definitely start this year! She said most likely sometime in Jul! She mention trial run, deep down I was thinking how can the school does such trial run? Parents have to make a lot of arrangement in order to switch to morning session. I hope the school will inform as earlier as possible when they are going to switch to single session.

Ya. Like today newspaper, look at what DPM said about Chinese Private School (even private school they want to oppress and discriminate, com'on , private school).
I am from Chinese school as well, and I am very grateful that my children are still able to attend one, result from the supports & contribution of our parents/grant parents/great grant parents generation. And it's my turn now, though only a little that I can contribute (not rich, just 打工仔, up got aging parents , down got young children to feed).
Just hope that as a lot of people has done their best to contribute, the HM, PIBG, teachers, and all staff of SJK(C) continue to strive for betterment, and don't let us down.
It's SINFUL if one try to sabotage or abuse an education system, for their own agenda, it's a BIG SIN !
And Education is NEVER about you can only learn in one language, just like Unity is never about we speak ONLY one language.

I suggest you sign up first if your children are really interested and then work things out later when single-session starts. So far, no one seems to know when that will happen so it is best that as parents, we continue to proceed as usual until further notice. That will be my advice :)

Pointless to get a big like here.....the teachers insist to use new exercise books for spelling, ejaan n ting xie. One of them punish my gal by asking her to stand in the class for not using new book. Called her n she raise up her voice then end the call abruptly.....just want to tell her that just let my gal to continue to use the old book n it ended badly......my husband asked me to drop my principle n just follow. Otherwise i am victimising my gal........she will be labelled as someone not smart for not able to tell parents to follow teacher s instruction (teacher mean so in the call)

I was caught up with some work, today there is a Bina Ayat test according to my girl. Her teacher ask them to do revision. And she said the test will be some pictures given, and they write a sentence out of it. No words given. I just tell my girl to try her best.

She said she must have the name n class otherwise she couldnt help.....class only is not enough....I told her i dont wan to victimise my gal as teachers are human too. If this teacher can be so emotional n rude to parent, no one can guarantee she ill not ill treat my gal. she claims that it is not the school policy to use the new exercise books. It is up to the teacher. Then i said the school should look into this matter seriously. Why waste paper when the students are taught in moral to save, to preserve n conserve the natural resourses.

Frankly, i m not satisfied how the supervisor handle my objection regarding to this issue. Keep saying, why all parents like to feel that teachers will pinalise the children even though i keep telling her that i understand teachers are human too. They do have feeling n no guarantee that she is able to separate the issue with parent from the child.
(I was thinking) In my point of view, teachers are human n human dislikes criticism, even it is a constructive one. )
She then said, if you refuse to tell what is ur gal s name, then we stop here. What?i was thinking, i just need you to tell the teacher not to be so harsh to parents. If they insist to use old book, let it be. No need to say only smart student will be able to follow teacher s instruction. It is very sarcastic n rude to hear from a TEACHER. N the school management have to play roles in instilling good values of loving the environment n mother earth among the teachers........no difference from bad gov, asking rakyat to save n downgrade lifestyle while they waste public s money like nobody biz.......
Tell me, what can i do next. Write to JPS, inspectorate who incharge lick hung school, write to environmentalist, write to press, who else can i write to? MACC? But teachers does not benefit when the school bookshop earns extra right......a school which does not know how to apply what is taught to students in actual daily life does not deserve HPS title. Best actor award, maybe. Act to be great but no wisdom to practice good value in real life

Why ? Because it had happened countless time before, that's why !! and we have all been students before in the past, so we all know too !!
sydneymak,
In normal circumstances, I would say don't be too concern and that you can use the remainder of the exercise book as "home" work exercise books which is what I did. The afternoon supervisor is correct in saying that there is no official school policy in using new exercise books for new term, so it is very much down to the individual class/subject teacher.
However, for the teacher to say those things and act in that manner, it is not so nice of her. I do suggest you pay the school teacher a visit to try and resolve this amicably before taking further action with JPS etc ....

I would prefer use new exercise book... but my son's class teacher use back all the old exercise books. Coz my boy... his books like ROJAK. so dirty and crumpled... So, guess, when it come to old or new exercise book.. it is teacher's preferance. When my older daughter was in Std 1, 6 years ago, and being over concerned parent, we always call or see her teacher on small little problems... and she rudely tell this... I have almost 40+ students in my class, If every parent come and see me everyday.. i do not need to do anything but just entertain them. And it will take me almost 2 months just to see or talk to a parent a day!!!!.. well, i guess she has a point....

The problem is that the teacher crumple her paper n punished her to stand in the class......u will never know, words violence is far more damaging than physical punishment. I will write to HM and see how the school handle this issue. Like i said, the school has the social responsibility to care for the environment. Teachers need to learn to save papers n save the environment. What is preserve n conserve the natural resourse in theory ? Let parents decide to use new books if the old one really messy.......there are 43 students in my gal s class. If the same teacher handle 5classes, there will be about 200 old books discarded. Each book still have 30 unused pages, there will be 6000 unused pages wasted. This is only standard one by one teacher, one subject....there are 3 subjects, there will be about 18 000 unused pages.......sikit sikit, jadi bukit

Well, if you are worry of the unused pages, why not get your child to use them as rough papers? I'm sure they needs rough papers to do calculation esp for maths...Alternatively, bundle it as a note book...There are many ways to recycle...

I agree with Mommy, there are a lot of ways to recycle. At home, I use my daughter's old exercise books for our own practice.
Teahcers may have their own reasons to insist on using new exercise books. In the school, please listen to the teachers if they are not doing anything wrong, for example, offend laws.

So ever since this new class teacher took over, he never finished his water, everyday only finish half bottle, ie. only 300ml! I told him to try drink in between lessons but he said same teacher few periods, cannot drink!
Weather is so hot these days and how could the teacher not allow them to drink water?!!! Something is really wrong with this school!!

No doubt, there are quite some points that parents are not happy with this school, to be fair, this is not the only school which has this rules. Be it SJK or SJKC, there are certain rules as not going to the toilet during classes. Imagine a class of 48, if each child as to go to toilet, 1 minute each will be 48 minutes. That is 1 session gone. I advised my boy to drink during the transition and go to toilet during the transition. Dont think he needs to go every transition or even every hour. He needs to drink more during the afternoon which he can drink freely and go to toilet freely....

My point is :
- speak to the teacher/school administrator
- I believe there is an amicable solution to a reasonable concern from parents.
- Do it in the spirit of mutual respect. If school choose to be hostile/unreasonable, I think there is a price to pay for those who behave in this manner.

Just a tip for the "FIRST TIMER" of Std 1 parents with kids taking BM/BC Penulisan for the first time ...
It is STANDARD/COMMON LH practice to give a couple of "surprise" questions ... so out of 10 questions, 8 of them will be the ones given in the exercises for the kids to practise/memorise.
There will be 1 or 2 "surprise" words (NOT NEW WORDS, just not in the list ... probably they have read in the buku teks or buku aktiviti before) for the kids to build their "own" sentences. The teachers love Simpulan Bahasa, so if there are any in the books, just read and practise on them.
So, my advice is to let the kids KNOW IN ADVANCE that there will be SURPRISE WORDS (otherwise, it will not be Lick Hung !! ), so DON'T PANIC, THINK and MAKE SIMPLE SENTENCES - this is very IMPORTANT - I know a lot of children froze and wrote nothing when different words came out  (This is the negative side of memorising!)
I suggest you pick a couple of kata-kerja (verbs) from the buku teks and buku aktiviti as you read with them and then get them to try and make their own sentences. Remember for Std 1, it does not have to be long, just SIMPLE and CORRECT sentences will score full marks !!
The idea is for them to learn how TO THINK and MAKE SIMPLE SENTENCES and not just "memorising".
One technique I used to encourage my son to think and make his own sentences (from Std 1 onwards) is to ask him when we revise the BM/BC Penulisan, whether he likes the teacher's model answers/sentences or not ... if he does not, I will ask him to make his own and use the ones he makes.
This method gives him the confidence to break away from "memorising" and be able to construct his own sentences no matter what words are thrown at him by the school !! :D The risk is that he may not get FULL MARKS since he is making his own sentences (and not following the teacher's model answers) but I am prepared to accept that rather than rote-learning ... :)

One of my friends who happen to be a SJK(C) teacher (but not LH) told me that, normally for exam questions, their practice is try to set 30-40% of the questions from 课外 one. If only study textbook, can pass. But to score, need do 课外 revision. She shared with me to let my girls do more 课外 exercises. She does that for her daughter daily (except weekend), and to her daughter, exam is just like those exercise she does everyday. She also recommended Casamac.
p.s. Her daughter is top 5 in her school.

Bro, I think we are using the same principle..
Perhaps I have used the wrong word, syllabus. I should use the word, concept/meaning !!
What I mean is I always make sure my son understand what he was taught in school. During revision, we will ask him what he did not understand from the homework and textbooks. Once he can understand (English grammar, math and science concepts, etc.), then the next step is ask him to remember what he understond for application and this is where those exercises are important.
You know the reason I sent my son to SJKC is to learn Mandarin. We teach him English ourselves using the Singapore syllabus.
We have little concern of his math and science as the standard of these two subjects are high in Chinese school.
BM is an irrelevant subject to him in future (in my opnion), so we did not pay much attention to this subject.
However, the result of each subject does not directly reflect the attention, time and effort and I guess this is due to the varying standard of the subjects in LH.
Just to share, he is always the highest or one of the highest in both BM subjects, always above 90+ !!
His marks in both BC subjects which we pay a lot of attention and spend the most time in revision is around 85+ (the lowest compares to other subjects), but is enough to give him an edge in the class position..:D
Primary school is for foundation-building.. and what foundation it should be built is depended on what the parents plan for his academic future in secondary and tertiary level..
Just like you, I have no faith with Malaysia education syllabus and academic/exam standard.
I have decided not to enroll him into Malaysia secondory and tertiary system..

Just try your best .... :) We are just sharing ideas/methods/concepts here. There is NO ONE PERFECT system, it all depends on what works BEST with your child.
However, having said that, there is also no escaping certain BASIC FACTS which is CONSISTENCY and DISCIPLINE in applying oneself to the task at hand, i.e. in the children's case - do their school homework well and diligently.

We are working parents as well, and the only available time is about 1 to 1.5 hours before he goes to bed at 10pm.
We make sure he finishes all the homework before dinner ( Frankly, I hate the abundance of homework from LH in which most of them are unnecessary)..

Hi currymee. Are you going to enroll your son into those so called international or private schools ?
So far, in Subang Jaya, we don't have any good international or private schools.
I am teaching some kids math and chinese from those schools, I don't find anything better.
Some of their teachers don't mark their homework at all. The children are in the dark as to whether their answers are right or wrong. The children are in the dark as to whether their methods of answering the questions are right or wrong.
Some teachers use the same textbook for two years, the children have no chance to learn anything new.

What is math and science got to do with “good” or “bad” private/international school ??
The key reason why parents choose to enroll their kid in a private/international school - is to inculcate self-confidence, language communication skills, broader thinking skills and last but not least interpersonal skills..
This is the same reason why some parents send their kids to overseas boarding school..
Academic part is easy… no need to spend that kind of money to score A in those subjects.

Here is a "little secret" ... CHANGE and TRANSFORM your social life as having school-going kids is ACTUALLY ANOTHER PHASE OF YOUR LIFE AS A PARENT - accept this fact and transform ... :D
It took me a while to adjust but now I make it a point when I take my kids to school for classes or activities, I meet up with the other parents too - have coffee or even currymees at Choy Kee :D SLOW DOWN A BIT, DON'T TRY TO DO TOO MUCH ...
Things go crazy when you try to ADD YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES as a school-going parent on top of your other lifestyle commitments ... something got to give as there is only 24 hours in a day .... I swapped Starbucks/CoffeeBeans for Choy Kee (better and cheaper !! - this one is a REAL DISCOVERY !! )... I swapped watching late-night EPL footballs on Astro to PLAYING FOOTBALL with my son instead, I swapped going to the pub and drinking to .... chit-chat and hanging out on usj.com.my forum haahahaa .... etc etc .... :D
Life goes on and is just as much fun if not more ... ACTUALLY I AM GETTING HEALTHIER as a result of my son starting Lick Hung ... I drink less, I play more, I sleep earlier , I wake up earlier, I read more, I revise my BM and English, I got to know more girls/mummies :mua-haha: , I gossip more :p , etc .... so it is not all doom and gloom, just DIFFERENT and do look on the OTHER BRIGHT SIDE ... :D

Please check the ENGLISH Home-tuition thread for details.
I use the PRACTICAL ENGLISH USAGE series of books by TIMES EDUCATIONAL CO.
It is the "SAME" (different title and cover but 90% of inside is the same !!) as the REVISED PRIMARY ENGLISH by Preston (used in Singapore from 1970s until now - they cannot sell the Preston titles in Malaysia as it is tweaked a bit for Spore syllabus) and use in Malaysia before 1975 - during the English-medium schools era before Dewan Bahasa butchered the English language in its textbooks.
So far, I only found it in CASAMAC and BIG Bookstore ...

Well, I started to emphasize for him to finish his hw in daycare since Std 1. However, it doesnt seem to work. Some friends have advise me to change daycare but I still stick to this daycare as the tuition is quite good. Other than that, also the ratio teacher to student is not a lot and they care enough even when the kids are sick. The principal also allows me to pick up a little late in case my work requires me to be late. His only problem is to complete his hw on time as he likes to dream and procrastinate. Discipline & maturity issue....If he's in the mood, he'll finish or other wise, he'll occupied the whole night to complete. I had set a timeline that by 9.30pm he must go to sleep whether he finishes his hw. Thus, he will rush off his school hw & even try to finish in school. He will then drag on his tuition hw...
I think this is not the 1st time I write about his discipline. I had written many times & many forumers have extended their methods & advises. I tried all but doesnt seem to work...

Some of their teachers don't mark their homework at all. The children are in the dark as to whether their answers are right or wrong. The children are in the dark as to whether their methods of answering the questions are right or wrong.
Some teachers use the same textbook for two years, the children have no chance to learn anything new.
Hi Lily,
So far, my wife and I have decided not to send our children through those private/international schools. Main reason is MONEY ... not because we cannot afford it BUT due to the money-oriented and profit-minded culture in these schools. You can see it in the management eyes and their conversations, the teachers and even the kids there are always refering to money or things it can buy  ... It is just TOO MONEY minded for us and we do not want our kids to grow up in that environment and having those "money-can-solve-everything" value in life.
As it is, I am already bitching that Lick Hung is becoming too money-oriented and not placing proper importance and values in teaching the children ....
So far, our plan is to put the kids through the SMK system but instead of relying on SMK solely for their education and on SPM/STPM, we (as parents) will "ADD ON" and prepare them for international exams and syllabuses like IGCSE/IB/SAT etc .... It is not that difficult as 80-90% of the material are similar esp for the Sciences and Maths. It just take some extra effort on our part and their diligence.
We have also decided not to put them through the Chinese Independent school system, too much external politics and too academic focus. We are hoping to find a GOOD BALANCE education for them.
Sad to say, there is a DREATH of good public education choices in Malaysia. :(

This is an article about 11 things not taught in schools, extracted from a book 《孩子们在学校学不到的五十件事》, I kept quite some times ago.
http://zilingyuying.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/papercutting_0004.jpg
Here is the English version I got, and I particularly like Rule 4.
Rule 1: Life is never fair. Get used to it.
Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3: You will NOT get a job with $40,000 a year right out of high school, nor will you be a Vice President immediately. First you have to start with wearing a non-branded uniform. You have to earn them.
Rule 4: If you think your parents and your teachers are tough, wait until you get a boss.
Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.
Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from your mistakes.
Rule 7: Before you are born, your parents ain't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were...So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time...
Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs. The problem you face in real life won't get solved in 30 minutes, and there is no commercial break.
Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

No notice no mention means NOT READY YET :D
However, one of the parents told me that the HM made an announcement to the students last week that it will start in JULY as soon as they collect enough money for the tables and chairs - still short ....
Mr HM and Chairman of PIBG AJK, PIBG bank account has RM300+ K (based on 2011 statement), what are you all keeping that money for ?

Bro, you are right about the never-ending outflow of money for international school…
I have a coursemate/buddy who was also my ex-colleague. His entire working life was in overseas and he enjoyied full expatriate terms including the children education in international school. He decided to come back few years ago due to parents request. He has two sons, one in primary 4 and the elder one in secondary 3. Both are in international school at Setia Alam as they are not accepted in SK or SKC school. Each time we met, he never failed to complain to me about the outrageous fee of international school in Malaysia.... He has to spend close to RM90k each year for them..
Ok, apart from the painful part of money outflow, let me relate my personal observation on those studied in international school.
His children especially the younger one is much more mature than any kid I ever met in LH. Maybe it is not just from the school, perhaps the composure also due to the living exposure abroad.
I have a Korean neighbor (a few storeys upper). They have a son same age with my kid and study in Sri KL private school. Each morning when I take the lift to car park to send me son to LH, I see him taking the lift alone to lobby waiting for his school bus... It is still dark at 6.45am !!
I am not sure how many parents in this forum will let their kid to take the lift alone and wait for school bus alone even in a very well-guarded condo !!
I have to admit this is family upbringing and I think I cannot provide my kid the necessary environment for him to be on par with other kid as far as those soft skills are concerned. Hopefully, he can acquire these skills in a school which place more balance emphasis in academic and non-academic.
During his present stage in primary school level, what I can do is bring him to see different places. Since he was 5 years old, I brought him to different cities, mainly in Europe. I spent relatively long duration in each city to expose him to the different life of other people and let him feel the difference. I want him to know there is always different way to face/solve a problem. I want him to know life is full of challenge/probelm, and problem is an integral part of life.
Anywhere, educational choice for children is one of the tougher choice to make.

I am enjoying myself now that I dread the day my kids leave Lick Hung ... I will be wondering what to do next !!  :D
BIG LIKE to your transformation. Very true tho that we need to change when our environment/situation change.

mm... I don't think those kids are more matured because they are studying in private/international school. I believe more on their parents' way of upbringing, and exposure.
I met children from Chinese primary school, helping their parents in hawker stall. Back in my hometown, I know a boy who helps up their parents during his free time in wet market selling vege.
And I know a few private/international school kids who are not able to do anything without their maid. My friends' friend came back home early one day to see how her teenage son sitting there for an hour+ waiting for dinner to be served as he is not aware the maid was sick.

Perhaps you did not get my point from post # 4937...
As I said, I don't think I am able to provide the necessary environment for my kid to be on par with these exceptional kids as far as nurturing the soft skills are concerned. Honestly, I think I can't ask more from him being in the present in-house environment and the LH school environment...
All schools regardless which type (SRJKC, SK, private/international school) produce students of different quality mainly due to the different emphasis of the school and also the family's upbringing of the children. I am not disputing this fact.
They are many hopeless kids like you mentioned in your post including LH and other Chinese schools..
Occasionally, from the conversation I heard among other parents while waiting to fetch my kid, and from the content of some of the posts in this thread, I can gauge the quality of the children those parents are having... No offence.
Please do not jump to the assertion that I am saying private/international school is the only right choice in molding children's value and attitude..From all my posts on this topic, I have repeatedly stressing a point that the educational emphasis and the poor quality of school administration in public schools had produced students who are not in the position to compete globally, generally speaking. The environment in these schools fail to produce students who can think critically, who are confident and know what they want.
Private/international school place more balance emphasis in non-academic areas. Trust me, parents who spend this kind of mad money in private/international school are not all dumb or like to show off they are capable to send their kids into private school..
If you have time, try to analyze the successful Malaysian students in Harvard interview and compare with those who have been shortlisted for interview but failed in the interview. Try to understand why all these academically brilliant students failed and why they always fail, year by year..
And also try to understand why every year Singapore has more students enroll into top universities in US compares to Malaysia even though we know for sure those who are doing exceptionally well in NUS are mostly Malaysians.. ??
Do you think brilliant Malaysian students are only NUS material ?? What are they lacking to give them an edge to be Harvard material ??

Hold on Rhiga,
My point is : "I don't think those kids are more matured because they are studying in private/international school. I believe more on their parents' way of upbringing, and exposure. " .. too
I am just giving examples that 'mature' is not related to any school, and we do find it in SJK(C) children, when you made a compare/comment "His children especially the younger one is much more mature than any kid I ever met in LH".
Ya, agree about the Havard material you mention. It's something worth analysis.
And I am absolutely with you that the public school system in Malaysia is lousy. And certainly that are things that Private/International schools do way way better then schools here.
But then, does it mean all Private/International schools are good and can produce a Havard student ?.
Instead of saying private/international school, can it be the way schools are conducted abroad that your coursemate's children went through ?
I still remember reading a thread complaining about teacher letting students mark their own papers. In Finland, students mark their own papers.
Here, there are still parents helping children prepare the school bags. In Finland, since primary, they have different school hours based on the subjects they study, s family with two schooling children (studying in same school) might need to go to school different time. ...
Here teachers go to classes, and in Finland, the students have to go to different classroom for different subjects.
....
And.. , I still believe there are some values that caused Singapore MOE sends rombongan every year, to grep students from Malaysia, sponsoring them to study in Singapore. And are they all Private/International school students ? I was told quite a number LH & Chi Wen students got that scholarship every years. And recently I read from newspaper, Singapore are trying to figure out why children from China & Malaysia sapu all the top places in Singapore schools ... if only Singaporean can get to Harvard, by right, they shouldn't be bothered about why non-Singaporean churns up the top students in their country.
Actually even US are looking at Asian style of education system ... which produce the talents they imported every year. When I worked in US, the number of Asian in the area I worked in are too significant to be ignored..
But still couldn't agree more that too many things need to be improved for Malaysian public school, there are things that we can learn from private/International school.
And not just school, parents attitude and commitment. If we have more parents like you and currymee who can do so much and try to cover all these stuff not taught in school here, then our society will have better future. .. also considering there are still a lot of parents who still think 天生天养 and do nothing to teach their kids even the very basic like ethics... sigh...
Just don't agree that Private/International school is the solution and don't agree that all private/international schools are good, just like not all public school are bad..in general.
Just voicing my view, not really about objecting or anything like that towards your post. No offence ya...

Madam,
You only have two options - public or private school.
Singaporeans who enrolled into Harvard... all of them came from Singapore public school.
Majority of Malaysian Harvard students are from international school.. !!
I am not saying private/international school is the cradle for Harvard.. but I seriously doubt local public schools have what it takes to produce Harvard materials…
Madam,
Life cannot takes two … it is the same with children educational choice.
Put aside the exorbitant cost in private/international, I believe if given a choice 99% of parents will opt for private school.
Who want to waste precious time dealing with which food is not allowed in school/ what dress which is religiously prohibited in school, who want to waste precious children’s time to study subjects/language which are irrelevant in future, who want to spend so much time doing homework and prepare for exam which at the end does not stimulate the thinking and creativity of students…
...the list goes on..

Due to small pool of population, Singapore needs foreign students/talents to fill the gap.. and brilliant Chinese-Malaysian is the best choice, culturally and politically.
This is exactly what I wanted to say – those brilliant Chinese-Malaysian students often emerge as the exceptional achievers in NUS but they never make it into top university like Harvard, MIT and Caltech..!!
This is something we as parents should seriously looking into it…
Ps. My wife is an NUS graduate and many of my Form 5 classmate who cannot enroll into local varsities due to the discriminated intake policy are all successfully enrolled into professional degree in NUS…
In my humble opinion, some of us have what it takes to be in the best universities in the world but our talents are wasted by the educational system in this country..

Every year, there are more Singaporeans accepted to Harvard than Malaysians… but every year we know those who emerge as top achievers in Singapore school and varsities are Malaysian..
WHY ????
The answer is simple...apart from family upbringing.
it is the educational system, the emphasis of the education, the quality of the teaching staff, the language communication skills and the open environment in the school that provide them with an extra edge.....

Yes Rhiga,
Only two choices.
If we are talking abt entering good uni like Harvard /MIT/ etc, specifically, ya, M'sia public school is out. If we consider NUS, Hong Kong Uni (top Asian uni), is M'sia public school still totally out ? That is our level.
I will opt for SJK(C) and then private school for Secondary if I have the option available, but bearing in mind "NOT all private school/international schools good", and choosing the right private school.
Again, my stand is:
for Harvard material, public school is out.
about Private/International school, not all are good.
So for those lucky one who have the options open, make the right choice ...

I am trying to say, at least, what I know, it's not totally no hope for those not-so-lucky-one (who cannot enter private school) who needs to get stuck with public school, there are still somethings taught in public school, that allow them to have the opportunity to enter Singapore school for free .. so public school here is not the worse where it's doom, not acceptable everywhere.
P.S. I almost become NUS graduated engineer if I didn't reject the offer due to dare not taking the risk that it will burden my family $$$ as I still have do-re-mi (sibling following right after me that is going to Uni very soon, before I could graduated.) And I am SJK(C) + SMJK. At least still got hope compare to may be public school from some other ASEAN country... And may be if my family is $$$, i can go private school, got chance to Harvard ... hahaha... joking...

Yes, if I am filthy rich millionaire, I will migrate to Singapore for my children education, same like a lot of rich Chinese, like Jim Rogers... :)

Contrary to many belief, the last thing you should do when you are wealthy enough is migrate to a country for children education…
Unless you really pissed off with Malaysia, then migrate by all means...
Otherwise, here is still a relatively cheap place to hang around... :p
Just send the kids to anywhere you think is the right place for their education, and occasionally drop by to visit them, no need to migrate..:)
Jim Rogers, Eduardo Saverin (co-founder of Facebook), Jet Li and Zhao Wei from PRC migrated to Singapore for different reasons, not just for children education..
They migrate for tax purpose, for privacy and safety purposes.

Huh ??? Still no exam scope ? This is VERY STRANGE indeed ...
Better double-check your child's NOTICE BOOK, for Std 1 , the teacher will usually tell the children to paste it into the book for parents to check and see.
Otherwise, let's hope that another kind Std 1 parent here can upload a copy for your reference :) .

I do recommend that you take her to see an OPTHALMOLOGIST (eye-specialist) first .... just to give the eyes a COMPLETE check-up and make sure it is properly diagonsed.
Rhiga has recommended Dr Grace Lee (Sunway Medical).
After checking, should she really need prescription glasses, I do recommend BLUE SKY (same row as BIG Bookstore)in USJ Taipan. Speak to the owner, he got some good common sense eye care tips - an old hand ....
BLUE SKY also have a branch directly in front of Lick Hung !! ;)

Sure, can - Why not ? :D
I got a few emails from mums whose children are in Chee Wen and TTCL (Wawasan).
They asked if it is ok for them to ask questions in this Lick Hung forum/thread since we are more "active" - ok, I admit I "cakap banyak" and "kay-poh" a lot :p  . FYI - this is a PUBLIC FORUM thread, so it is OPEN to everyone on Earth (until one day IF KWChang decides to close it  ) !!
Sure and yes you can, please feel free to pose your queries :) - just take note that replies given by LH parents may be from the point-of-view and our experience with LH, so it may be different depending on the respective situation in your schools. For example, LH HM and PIBG AJK are so money-minded, secretive and treating the parents like their personal ATM machines :( ... whilst Chee Wen has a Sunway godfather (lucky you !!) :), TTCL has MCA backing .... so .... things may be different ....
So, just take note of that ... :)

I recommend CICA Optical in usj business centre next to Dr.Liew pediatric clinic. The owner is a qualified optometrist graduated from Ukm. My related family members were bluesky's regular customer but we found that they are not honest. So we switch to CICA as recommended by my neighbor n friends. You can check on this website http://www.cicaoptometry.com/.

LATEST UPDATE - SINGLE-SESSION TO START IN AUGUST
I heard this latest development from a few transporter aunties and mums that the HM mentioned that the new block will take about 3-4 weeks to go through "finishing touches" and for the tables and chairs to come in.
This will also allow the children to sit and finish Exam 2/1 (late July) without any interruption .... kudos for this good decision :)

Hahaha .... Jan, no need lah :p ... next time (soon) Lick Hung ask for donation again  , just write a cheque for RM5.00 and at the back, write "From Currymee with Love" :D
About the CF, IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN, if the building design has been approved by JKR as part of their job in "building" Government buildings (i.e. like other Govt buildings, hospitals etc ... ), the CF is considered "given" .... I remember hearing about this JKR "super-keng" approval that automatically qualifies any Govt building they build or approve as having CF, bomba etc etc .... APPROVED !! This is like 20-odd years ago when I started working as a site-engineer .... I MAY BE WRONG but I know that most Govt buildings don't have CF especially in local universities (note: my ex-company used to get sub-con jobs for building extensions, buildings etc in local univs) !!

I would suggest Dr Grace Lee in Sunway Medical Centre as mentioned by Currymee cos for such a young age, need to get Ophthalmologist to have special test on the eye sight. My son is having astigmatism as high as 300 each eye after examined by the dr.

Yup, I recommended Dr. Grace Lee to Currymee last year when he was looking for ophthalmologist in USJ/SJ..
Dr. Grace is like the "family eye specialist" to my family – from eyesight prescription for my kid to the glaucoma surgery for my mother. My experience with her is... she is patient and approachable.
Compare with SDMC, Sunway medical center is less crowded.... and there is a Starbucks in the lobby to kill time while waiting..:D
However, I would like to clarify that experience and level of satisfaction of a doctor is a very personal matter..
It may work well or may not work well for others.
Cheers

Yes, this is part of the steps for the eye examination. The child may feel quite uncomfortable. I suggest maybe you could give a call to enquire with the nurse what are the routine for the eye check so that you could prep up your girl before the visit.

The "dilation of the pupil" is NECESSARY for checking a child's eyeballs due to the fact that their eyes are still hyper-sensitive and over-focus. It is called the "cycloplegic refraction procedure", see .... http://vision.about.com/od/eyeexamequipment/g/Cycloplegic-Eye-Drop.htm
