Hi All,

Will be visiting Melbourne in April.

What is the simplest way to apply for a visa: online or visit the Australian Embassy in KL?

I've seen some online 'agents' offering to process visa. Are they genuine and how much do you have to pay?

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

can easily apply online with a creditcard.... less the 10 minutes. Its not the traditional VISA which require a healthcheck and oso $$ bond.
Its called an ETA or somethingy, if you bought a tour package fr a travel agency, u should bargain for them to throw in the ETA FOC. If you bought the ticket urself then do it online. If I remember correctly its AUD20 pax

No sweat..U can get the visa from the travel agent thay you are buying the
ticket from. Its done electronically..then get get a print out of the approved
visa and put it in your passport.
Australia also has an embassy staff checking on the visa/passports for
flights into Aussie land. :D

Hi All,

Thanks for the quick reply!

Can anyone provide an online site to process visa? Since I'm travel only mid April, is it too early to apply?

Thanks.

Like I said, it just take 10 minutes.... if got complication then it takes 24 hours for confirmation so its up to u. U can apply today or wait until 36 hours b/4 departure (anytime inbtw should be fine) There is no hardcopy to keep just a reference no. and is all done online. The immigration officer will key-in your name/ passport no. and the computer will indicate that you have a valid ETA

IMO you can delay until late March b/4 applying.

Here's the link
https://www.eta.immi.gov.au/

Click on Apply For ETA

Since you're traveling in April, then do it in late March...need Credit Card to pat A$20...usually multiple entry valid for 1 year and up to 3 months per visit.

well, at least it does not cost RM534* like the US Visa.... :(

[for general info only]

if you apply for it and if 'they' (the US embassy) decide NOT to grant you the visa... your hard earned money "hangus!'.... https://www.vfs-usa-my.com/ApplnForms/refusal.aspx#6

furthermore, if you read closely - the visa doesn't cost anything, its the processing/application fee and the agency fee is what you get whacked with...

best part is, if you miss your 'interview' for whatever reason (no excuses whatsoever!)... it would be considered as a "NO SHOW" and they would whack you again for another RM32 to use the RM534 Alliance bank receipt to book another date...

funny part is - US application fee is USD100/- but why the heck did VFS malaysia charge RM534....

* note: as of 30/11/09 - Now due to "their" so called exchange rates,
1. Visa Application Fee (MRV Fee): $131 in equivalent RM (RM 460) at consular rate of exchange.
2. Service Charge for VFS Services : 32 RM (inclusive of GST @ 5%)

If you planning to fly by MAS you should buy your ticket at MAS office in KL Sentral and the reservation staff will do the online visa application for you as well. The last time MAS did it for me FOC but you must go to MAS office in KL Sentral. No sure if this service is still on, no harm in giving them a call. :D

I do not remember paying anyone any money for the Aussie Visa - asked the ticketing agent to do it and I got it almost immediately (sent to me by email) with no extra charges.

As per my 1st post, if you bought your ticket fr a travel agent the ETA can be packaged FOC but nowadays, when you c Melbourne chances r the ticket is self booked fr AA probably '0 fare' hence gotta apply ETA and bear the AUD20-lo

As the forerunners mentioned - if you apply on-line, you have to pay AUD20 as processing fees (the visa is free). Get a travel agent friend to apply for you for free. My 2 cents worth, usually you should have no problems applying for the ETA on line but if you are one of those "black listed" tourists, your application will be rejected and you will be asked to go to the Embassy to apply. It may take only a couple of minutes if your name is cleared and you will be issued with a ETA for free there and then or you may be asked to apply for the normal tourist visa which may take up to one month to process, cost more and loads of paper works! Apply in March if I were you, just to play safe. Happy holiday in Melbourne.
