Sepang paid US$45.7 million to hold 2009's washed out race, i still have an email sent to a friend in the UK, telling him it would be this way, written almost a year before the race. I still went, have been to all, but after this year i gave up buying next years tickets on race day and still doubt i will attend in 2010.

Other circuits paid:
Abu Dhabi US$45m.
Singapore - US$44m.
Italy - US$4.7m.
Monaco - US$0.
Average cost was $28m.
Ecclestone increases the fee by 7-10% per year, Sepang has a contract until 2015. Someone is making a lot of dosh.

how much publicity did Sepang bring to the country? How much tourist dollars came? All hotels fully booked, especially the 5 stars ones. Not purely wasted money lah. :D
One of my Italian clients booked a super duper Wesstar(?) bus to bring us up there , booked 3 nites accomodation at Concord Premier Wing, threw lavish dinner party and gave out grandstand tickets out...I booked half a club at Jln Sultan Ismail to entertain them for the kind gesture too...

USD46M not exactly down the drain, it's just that our exchange rate is inferior compared to a lot of other venues. That consequently made the tickets expensive for local F1 fans to attend.

F1 is an event to draw in foreign tourist with big spending power. But with the S'pore F1 street race, SIC is starting to sweat.

According to my frens we had gone to the S'pore f1 race, it's a carnival not to be missed even if you don't fancy the race. They don't overcharge for F&B within the circuit unlike in SIC..
SIC has a lot to learn on how to organise the yearly race properly before more ppl start shunting it.

got to be their clients lah... :D

Fabe, u're right, beer cost sgp5 bucks per mug at the Spore circuit. U can even chow down hawker styled food at the Makansutra hawker centre and watch the race going on. U can even get closer than 2 metres from the race cars if u're on teh "walkabout" tickets...After race, can walk to the Padang to watch free concerts...
