We have, yes, a very interesting phenomena. Two BLUE MOONS in a row! Because the full moon rises at 6.50:55 pm on 31st December 2009 (tomorrow evening) in USJ, it is a December Blue Moon for us. But it will still be a full moon going into Monday, 1st January 2010. So the moon on the evening of 30th January 2010 will also be a Blue Moon.

It completely skipped my mind that it was such a special occasion....was only thinking about the coming eclipse on New Year's Day.

Speaking of the eclipse....lady, unfortunately, you will not see it in CA, the moon being below the horizon where you are at that time.

It looks like no one is challenging my tongue in cheek take on the blue moon(s).....? :p

Okay, here is the more definitive viewpoint.
If we go by the strict original and traditional definition of the term blue moon, there will be no blue moon on the 31st December 2009. Also no blue moon on 30th January 2010.

Disappointing, eh?

HeeHeeHee, and I thought the moon is going to be blue in colour ... now I know.

Anyway, what's the big deal? This is simply a lunar phenomenon in a solar calendar. Tell me when we get 2 moons in a lunar month, then I know something's gone very wrong with gravity or another large-mass object had made the moon go out of sync.

Haha, as mick has just shown, the blue moon phenomena (literally blue coloured moon) is actually quite common.

And if you ever look at the high Moon on a clear but slightly hazy day, it will be blue colored also.....

But the caveat is that you can never see a Full & Blue Moon in the day time.

there will be a partial eclipse tonight mainly visible in Europe, Africa and Asia, with the clearest in Gujarat, India. I think it starts from 1:50am onwards.

what blue mooon? I saw a BIG ROUND orangy kinda moon at 7pm...then as the night progresses, it got smaller and brighter like a flourescent colour coin up the sky! Actually the size of the 2am moon was like half of what it was at 7pm!

Me too! Took a nap at around 10.30pm, thinking I would wake up at 1.00 am just in time for the event. However, when I opened my eyes again....4.30 am. The moon like normal already. :D

Brother, 1b euros still got no guarantee of a seat lah. For the money, I think I'd rather buy a blimp and stock it up with canned stuff, fuel and a dingy. Oh, don't forget to get a 5D Mark II, too....can shoot a lot of dramatic pics from up in the air, eh?
