Hi All,

Have not visited Zoo Negara in donkey years. Thinking of going this weekend with sis in law's children.

Has anyone been there recently and what's the state of the zoo? Want to know before plonking down $25 for adult and $9 for kids.

Appreciate all replies.

Thanks
Jwoo

My last trip was about 6 months ago - it was ok then and definitely kids will love it :D My suggestions are to bring plenty of drinking water, best to walk (use the map given) instead of waiting for the tram (or whatever they call it) and if staying over lunch, best to pack something as the restaurant near the Bear's enclosure can get crowded, a bit expensive and not much choice - a fast food joint.

When we were there, the National Aquarium was just being stocked up, so you should get the finished setup by now.

My family make a trip to the Zoo Negara about 1-2 times a year as a family outing. BTW, if you are sensitive to animals' dung, let me forewarn you first, it stinks !! :D :D especially the elephants !!

was there last week and noticed nothing much has changed since our last visit 3-4 years back....the animal performance is the same... more enclosures are empty..the tram is no longer FREE..(and only 2 stops now)..food expensive...BUT the KIDS still loved the outing..

For the kids sake...go ahead and make it a great day..but i was disappointed with what i saw.... as it seems the zoo has deteriorated over the years

Can't remember when was my last trip there, probably more than 6 months ago. The new trams was already in place but no longer free. Enjoyed the old tram ride when it was free and had many stops.

It's a good place to visit with the kids, but don't go with high expectation. Make sure your timing is right so that you can catch any of the shows (http://www.zoonegara.org.my/showtime.html) that they have. Not a good place to be when it rains, shelters are a few.

Kids will love it cos they get to see animals. For me I went last Dec 08. I think it's sad. The animals are not so well kept and look miserable. However, I suppose the more visitors they have, then the more funds to upkeep the animals. Go early in the morning and catch the animal show.

Zoo Negara is in desperate need of upgrading in its facilities but sadly, the Govt has always failed to value it as a national treasure instead of wasting millions in building more and more defunct parks, it should focus on Zoo Negara and make it WORLD CLASS !!

We send a group of student volunteers every term and they usually cannot take more than 100 per day on the weekends.

I had the opportunity to see both the Taiping Zoo and the Zoo Negara at around the same time. The Taiping Zoo is actually better in terms of exhibits, and cleanliness. And the crowds are quite large. So what is Taiping Zoo doing right?

So what is Taiping Zoo doing right?methinks it is the location that works...Taiping is cooler and wetter than Ayer Keroh (Zoo Melaka) and Ulu Kelang (Zoo Negara)...and the location is a nice, green area (Lake Gardens) that is relatively isolated from the city.

Zoo Negara is certainly not #1 in Malaysia but Im not sure if Zoo Melaka or Taiping Zoo is #1. Id probably vote for Zoo Melaka.
