MPH is selling a EBook Reader from HANLIN eReader V5 at RM1249.

At that price, I can get a Lenovo S10 add another 200 bucks!

Generally people still like the feel of a book and flip the pages.
I doubt very much e-readers will catch on....unless it means cheaper books compared to the print version.

I'd like an e-reader but as Kindle isn't sold in Malaysia or Singapore, I don't much see the point as I'd like to download stuff from Amazon. I went to Subang Parade and Pyramid to ask about e-readers and got blank looks. I'm curious, is there such a thing as a paperthin reader type machine that doesn't cost the earth?

Chang, I beg to differ. Personally, I would prefer an eBook than a paper one. You can carry many many books in 1 eBook as oppose to the bulky paper based book.

Anyway, here's an interesting report:

My main and key concern about eBook is that there is still no uniform standard for the content format - unless that aspect is properly addressed and agreed by all players, I dare say, the uptake will be painfully slow .... I am not sure if there is a kind of JPEG type workgroup being put together by all the major players.

Are these eBooks readers harmful to the eyes? Unlike books which are essentially reflected light, wouldn't the eBooks be like TV or LCD?

That's the purpose of e-readers, its good to the eyes unlike glare from LCD. Have got one, & damn, it really is like reading print. Not the same technology as LCD. The government should get them for school kids instead of lugging heavy textbooks around. The ones with no wifi so the kids can't surf porn. Kindle & Sony does not sell in Asia which I think is a bad mistake. Very big market in China for a reasonable price & if supports Chinese. So far only 2 e-readers sold here. One manage to sell through MPH recently, another brand has reseller in KL.

Btw e-readers was top seller gadget last hols season. It was the rage for the season. Most will support pdf. I think Kindle has some proprietry thing so can't read all books. I believe e-readers will change print media industry, not just books but also newspapers & academic

Franky the price quoted is for bulk orders. If we want to buy only ONE, how? Must go all the way to Gombak to buy? Is it available nearby, do you think?

We're spoilt for choice. Sometimes difficult to make good decisions when there is too much choice. Are you also looking for one?

I think I'll wait for the next PC fair.

I'm looking for something real simple, just to read e-books. It had to be durable as I am apt to doze off and drop my book. I hear that ebook readers are easier on the eye and that Ipads are more for teenagers and kids, or like Xinrong says, "just a toy" Nowadays there is so much choice and therefore difficult to come to a wise decision. And recommendations?
