Subject: Mugged in Sunway Pyramid

Hi Alex,

I would like to share this incident which happened yesterday, Monday 7th December.

My son and his friends (all 14 years old) were walking near the House of Leather inside Sunway Pyramid at about 5pm.
A Malay teenager about 18-20 yrs of age approached my son and his friend who were walking ahead of the rest. For no reason at all, this Malay boy slapped them very hard and then told them to turn around and walk away. My son told me that this Malay teenager's eyes were bloodshot red....perhaps on drugs, and he had about 5 other friends sitting a short distance away. All this happened in full view of other people.
Not surprisingly, no one dared to interfere for obvious reasons.
When I arrived to fetch my son at about 5.30pm, he related this incident to me. I tried calling Tuan Loi's handphone but it went to his message box. I then phoned his office and was informed that he had left the police station. A policeman from the Sunway police station then called me and I related the incident to him. I was told to go and make a police report at the Sunway Police Station. I did not make the report as my son was psychologically traumatised and asked me not to report it.
On our way home, my son's friend called to say that the group of Malay boys trailed them and extorted RM 20 from them.

As a parent, I want to share this with others who may also have teenage children, and to be cautious when their children go out to such places which are deemed "safe?"

Regards,
Ivan

Dear Alex

Ivan Teo is not on SJ Alert.

If the incident happened at the Sunway Pyramid, the correct OCS to call should be

Balai Polis Bandar Sunway - 03 5638 2122
C/I Tuan Harikrishnan Muralitharan - 012 5818927

and not Tuan Loi of Balai Polis USJ.

I am surprised that such an incident can happen at the Sunway Pyramid because the Auxiliary Police force at Sunway is quite big.
And since the Sunway Security Managers are on SJ Alert maybe they would like to take the matter up with the victim immediately.

Please also inform Ivan that it would only be socially correct for him to bring his son to the Bandar Sunway Balai Polis to make a report of the incident. This could help the Polis take action to stem out such future activities.

Robert

<strike>I'm not surprise with such incident as my daughter went to Sun Prymid last month with a group of friends (20 of them ) to the video game section next to the cinema,a group of malay boys were puffing away.SJ/USJ'rian these things will happen more often after monorail arrives in a later stage.Be warn!</strike>

( Admin note -- since Jan had retracted his comment, the above comment is now struck out )

I'm not surprise with such incident....a group of malay boys were puffing away....
I find this comment racist because it points at a specific group. And by the way, just smoking cigerettes in front of a game outlet does not mean the boys are up to no good .... this is type-casting and making prejudiced observation.

Hey, if you say such things in a public forum, you are no better off than the lynch mobs we read about... people who went around on witch hunts in the past and accuse certain ladies as witches and inflict cruel "punishments" to innocent ladies. Another thing that comes to mind is the Ku Klux Klan and aparthied movements in S.Africa.

Be careful, be politically correct and do not judge without good supporting evidence. We support a strong legislative and support the legal system ... let us not revert to primitive urges

What i mention the malay boys puffing doesn't mean there are harmful but what i meant the aux.police are not doing their job.I know Sunway is a big place, where i use to frequent ,but looking at the enforcement is appalling.

Usually certain ethnic group would concregrate at certain outlets - kepong woudl have more troublemakers consisting of chinese students trouble makers - my former employee was one of them! That is why his mom sent him to my place and worked! He was well behaved when at my place until I moved to Subang and he left for NS. Now, he is about 19. Once, he was puffing his cigreette away while dining with his dad! I told him if he didnt respect his dad , that he means he didnt respect me, too. Otherwise I would have bore him with morality stories! That is one of the reason He said he is pursuing air condition carrer now! :D
Anyway, the other ethnic group is more prominently at sg buloh are Indians.
well, as far as Subang, it has more Malay -lah.
IMHO, I like to think the statement made are just to highlight the social problem and avoid it. Moreover, it is to let the authority know . Even the authorities would asked , cina, India, melayu atau bangla?
Perhaps not politically correct but there is no racist statement here and just for general precautionary knowledge :D ;) :D

Now that is a different stance .. you did not mention anything of that nature in yr post. Can you imagine what conclusions some people will come to by just reading your post #3 just now without that additional clarification?

Yr first comment points at Malay boys smoking - that to me hints at a specific race and a specific action as being implicative of contributory factors to this topic
Yr second (additional comment) is now pointing to the lack of auxillary policing

So WHICH one is your point? I was asking you to retract the first comment which by itself can lead to misunderstandings. Can or not?

Social problems are not race based but economic based. The group of people who are at the lower income group usually gets into trouble with the law more.

Actually what makes me angry is the couldnt care less attitude of those people who witnessed the slapping or bullying in the Sunway pryramid.
At least, they can try to call the cops!

I take is as a retraction of his earlier comment. Well done, you are the Man for the retraction.

This is for all members reading this thread -
please be careful of what you say in yr commentaries. We are all Malaysians here, please do not carry the divide-and-rule baggage that most of us have been infused with in the past. I hope we as Malaysians can see the core issues. All of us are humans and I try very much not to link specific actions to specific ethnic groups, we are all mortals with defects and I hope we eventually become colour-blind on things that have no racial basis
