<FONT SIZE="+1">Petrol Up One Sen, Diesel And LPG Two Sen From Friday</FONT>
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- The Cabinet has approved the price hike of
one sen per litre for petrol and two sen for diesel and liquefied petroleum
gas (LPG) from Friday.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said
with the increase, the price of RON 97 or unleaded petroleum would be
increased from RM1.32 to RM1.33 per litre while that of RON 92, from RM1.28
to RM1.29 per litre.
The new price of diesel will be 74.1 sen per litre while LPG, RM1.31 per kg.
He said the increase for RON 97 is 0.8 per cent, diesel 2.77 per cent and
LPG two per cent.
"The reason for the increase as usual is because the government has to bear
the subsidy, which is still big, amounting RM3,326 million from January to
November this year," he said at a news conference here Wednesday.
Muhyiddin said the increase was to reduce the subsidy borne by the
government due to the increase in oil prices in the world market.
He said oil companies incurred higher costs and if the government did not
subsidised, consumers would have to pay more.
Without government subsidy, consumers had to pay higher price for petrol at
RM1.51 sen a litre, he said.
Muhyiddin said the petrol price hike was still low when compared to other
countries. In Pakistan, a litre of RON 95 costs RM2.51, Singapore RON 98
(RM2.77) and Hong Kong (RM5.28).
Diesel costs RM1.26 a litre in Thailand, the Philippines (RM1.06), Pakistan
(RM1.26), Singapore (RM1.39) and Hong Kong (RM2.91) while LPG in the
Philippines costs (RM1.82), Pakistan (RM1.55), Hong Kong (RM4.52) and
