Firefox, you can go and try Dynasty Dragon at the Summit (Ground Floor) near Subway / Black canyon Coffee part of Summit. Food is good and price is reasonable for a fancy restaurant from checklist menu at RM3.80 per item, you can also do special ala carte orders - i.e. special roast meats, scallops based etc etc .... check the menu for pricing.

And could your dim sum meal will cost somewhere RM30++ a head on the average?... not really an economical cost meal is it?
Disclaimer: of course if anyone with cost no object eating out..by all means. :)

I though these discounts only for CIMB/Direct Access "Platinum" Card holders only?

You are correct - as in the in case of KL Hilton. But in the case of Grand Dorset (former Sheraton), they are quite happy to accept the CIMB/Direct Access Gold Card, which is fine with me ! Have been dining there often since the promotion started. So, just go there to Emperor, enjoy your meal and just flash your card quietly and dont ask question, ok? ;-)

Very often two of us cost less than RM50. One trick of the trade when dining out in Chinese restaurants of big hotels, BRING your own tea. You save a lot. Try it and tell me if you dont.

Its true, perhaps ok if just you as a couple. Weird if you do that with a larger group eating out, unless everyone is extremely familiar with your habit.

Restaurant char is quite often pricey, not to mention the inclusion of peanuts, service charge, garmen tax... GST later on?... many won't be smiling then..

Aiyah BS, sometimes you very straight forward lah. We do that always, even when in a group. Sometime we even have 2 tables, and we still provide our own char. Why? The hotel's tea is not the higher end quality we want. They also agree. So we bring our own tea! No need to pai seh lah!!

Pat, v dun hv to inform them when we are seated at the outset that we are CIMB platinum/infiniti card holders to enjoy the 50% discount or v can get the discount when asking the bill and flash the card?

Not sure le, like our BMW M'sia club, we seemed to have to inform the waiter/captain first.

Our favourite is Da Hong Pao or something like that. Direct translation is Big red robe/cloak. One of the few teas with very low caffein. Otherwise, it's green tea.

Usually you get the discount when paying. But you can always confirm at the onset if it makes you feel more reassured. But remember it's 50% for 2, 33% for 3 and so on. Not 50% flat rate! Bon appetit! Any problem, talk to Restaurant Assist Manager Amar, and tell him you are my friend. Kao tim! Most of the senior waitresses know us well too.

This CIMB/Direct Access discount will be until when? I am thinking of cutting up my card in mid Dec, so maybe will go for it before then! Is the same thing valid at the Jap restaurant in Dorsett?

You mentioned KL hilton, Patrick. Which restaurant and is the discount structure the same? Just curious but I don't need it cos have the Hilton card. If can use at Chynna and Iketeru, you must go cos the restaurants, IMO, is much better than Dorsett's.

Me too Ily. I'd be cutting up my 8 CIMB cards (4 platinums & 4 infiniti) given for unknown reasons with increased line of credit summore. Nvr used the cards as they were not my regular banker.

Mebbe should give it a try at Pat's recommended place:)

If I remember correctly, it's until mid next year. Let me check for you on my next outing there. Sorry lah...old folks memory not so good !! Haha!! And yes...Jap too. But just to be really certain, like Peter suggest, just check to reconfirm before you dine lor. Better to be safe than sorry afterwards.

For Hilton, NO, they are following strictly the promotion ie only the CIMB World Card (not sure what type of card that is though!). Even the regular gold card is not accepted for the promotion. I do go to the Hiltons often too. Me got Hilton card too!! ;-)

Me too...have put aside 6 cards to be cut. But my banks say hold on first. They still havent decide what to do. No instruction, no nothing!! Going to keep just 1 CIMB card to enjoy dining at Grand Dorset. Btw, make sure you clear all your reward points before cutting up your cards.

Heard that there's one Dim Sum at Sri Petaling quite famous. Any idea where is it and what's the name of the DS Restaurant?

Btw, the traffic was quite bad yesterday going north. Especially at the new junction going into Ipoh to pay the toll. The jam was few km away at the NS highway before that junction. Apparently there was a group of traffic policemen near the junction and some debris on the highway. Must be an accident earlier. It backed up to few kms..

That one quite ok but very less steamed type of DS. A lot of deep fried stuff. They only heat those items that you are ordering there and then. Not like those DS restaurant where they are already steamed and ready to serve.

I kinda quite like the tastes but wifey dun like that place bcos they placed plastic on the table and throw away I think after use. She suddenly became environmentally conscious :(

I am taught to measure the Dimsum rating by just ordering basics - char siew Pau, yee tan, siew mai, har kau, tarn tart and if either one of this is not up to the expectation.....well it is just not up to standard.
In just a week, I took my filipino team mate to do a dim sum - simply because I dont serve pork at my place and dont know some thing about dim sum.
Anyway, none of the shops I went is up to expectation! The only good up to my mark the ones at SHangrila Hotel ,Ipoh Fosan and the one which was closed down because the building was bought by Late Dato Loh Boon Siew!
BTW, my review is limited to KL and Ipoh. Other Places like Penang and JB , I got no time to do Dim Sum :)

Foh San Ipoh is not bad, but the system and the crowd is a mad house!! No reservation and people are standing right next to your table, silently telling you to buzz off fast!! I hate dining under such environment.

Yes, dining at Foh San can be quite undaunting unless you go there early in the morning - 6 am. That is why I usually do my dim sum at Kok Kee where they have private rooms sumore or right outside. It used to be a big mansion house. It parked something like 50 cars parks

Foh San Ipoh has shifted to a big double storey restaurant. It is just behind Ming Court, another very good dim sum place in Ipoh.

Logically speaking, buffet spread is supposely to give diners choice of food menu without waiting. It is not supposed to over eat! Buffet are popular in the States, primary because the small ones goes for certains dishes and the mum go for the veggies and dad goes for the prime meats.
But the worst diners probably might be the Singapore Kiasu diners until the restaurant over that would charge you for anything which is taken but not eaten.:D
Anyway, of course, ala carte is still the best choice as the standard is usually better. For instance, a single plate of fried rice always takes better than a wokful of rice.

I thought that was to "educate and disipline" diners not to be wasteful. It doesn't mean you pay so much and be wasteful because one paid for it. Anyway, wasting good food is a sin, as far as I'm concerned. I'd tar pau back any still edible leftovers if any. I wish I could do that at 10 course dinners but can't. I see so much waste everytime. Nice leftover meaty pieces of chicken...whatever, my cats will luv them to bits.

Peter, I dont quite like the dim sum there. A bit like superficial preparation. As for the 50% discount, only some items are applicable. Further, it's always like "this one finished, that one finished. Left only this. Blah, blah...blah.... get the feeling the offer not very sincere!!

Had dim sum at Dynasty Dragon, Summit yesterday. The food was good. And with the current promotion of each basket at 3.80+ (till end of Dec), it was very very worth it. Service and ambience was also good and I highly recommend you folks to try it. Dont miss out on the Steamed butter buns. Really good. Like the ones I had at Duck King in PJ but for a fraction of the price. But caution....when you take this bun, make sure you place the bun on a spoon and bite. Why? The buttered, salted egg filling will ooze out and drip into your spoon which you can continue to enjoy instead of it being wasted, besides messing up your plate or table. They are very generous on the fillings.

We enjoyed the food so much, we went back the same day to have dinner there. The dim sum runs until 5 pm!! Weekdays start from 11am and weekends from 9.30am.

Dont miss this RM3.80 promotion guys. You'll regret it!!
