There is a grocer in (Admin note - name removed) which started six months ago. It is near Bandar Utama and doing brisk business. They have varieties and fresh fish from Kuala Selangor daily. The catch is that the prices are exhorbitantly high.
I complain to the supervisor and to my surprise she boldly replied " our store is for higher end and upper class only " The name is (Admin note - name removed). please avoid unless necesary.

if the expat is staying around there, I don't think they will be travelling all the way to Ampang to get what they need. My friend who was just transferred to US says she is paying US$5.00 for a bottle of soy sauce from an Asian grocer.

Even if it is imported , you don't have to be arrogant.
there is a niche chain owned by the ong-tai-kim group from sentul and there , they are very low end, dirty, crowded supermart and its HQ too.
With the influx of IKAs nationwide, this local chain made a strategic decision to go higher end with lessons learned from the 1st outlet in bangsar. U will find that they now have at least 3-4 outlets, but onlyin klang valley. AND yes, the mgmt people in bangsar is equally arrogant and look donw on locals...they have a reputation of bully attitude towards their suppliers too.

Gives you a good sense of what "upper class" actually is.

I have removed the name of the shop - it is totally unfair for anyone to downgrade or badmouth a business outlet just because he don't like the shop. If it is bad, the law of averages will take care of it ... the customer decides. Do we need to put such comments plus identify the outlet? Did they have any under-handed process to cheat the customer? As I said, in a willing seller-willing buyer situation, you as the customer decide ... it is not right for you to bad-mouth the outlet.

After throwing the brick, I will not return to spend my money anymore.

True to a large extent, but I do agree its entirely up to any oneself to decide to buy or not, after due consideration of other reasons or factors. Just like one hypermart in USJ, they claim they have best price for some items I frequently buy but its clearly cheaper just next door 50 meters away. I just decide not to buy if the need isn't very urgent. Simple lah.

Agreed with hands and legs….
I think the fundamental is TRUE info.
If the info is true and impartial, then the sender is doing it with good intention – to alert others.
I am not against the shop, I believe and agree on free market- willing buyer and willing seller.
It is the “big small eyes” attitude of the staff that pissed me off…
Perhaps, this is the true reflection of the quality of service industry in this country.
Imagine, if I walk in to the Mikimoto in KLCC with “low-end attire” and with “low-end English”, and they greet me with such comments - “ our store is only cater for high-end people”
I will strike lottery….

You flers have mixed up the real issues.
The case of car-breakins at the car park is a public security issue - something every member of the public should be made aware of. If I removed the name of the hypermart and you parked your car there and got the car windows broken, I'd have the whole of SJ on my neck for taking away this security warning. Right?
Now this thread deals with an 'arrogant' grocer who was reported to literally tell his customer that he shouldn't be shopping there if he had no class. Is that a public issue that may cause loss of property or compromise your personal security? It was simply an issue of customer satisfaction.
I hope you see the difference.

Willing seller, willing buyer...
Many of us who have been staying in London would remember one Chinese Restaurant named Wong Kee down in Soho... blardy freakin' rude Hong Kong waiters cursing grandmother and grandfather...
Can't even allow you enough time to down the flied lice or the dim sum or the bowl of mee soup...
But it was just 1 pound per meal... cheap and good...
Yet many of us, after being abused verbally left, right and centre...
After our mother, father, grandmother and grandfather get verbally abused day in day out...
We still go back to Wong Kee and eat... because the portion was BIG and the price was CHEAP!
So, willing seller, willing buyer lah....

Hahaha! I love the tagline!
I believe the staff was merely echoing his or her company's mission that it has set for itself. The mission is catering to those willing to spend more on groceries. It's only business, nothing personal.
We shouldn't be quick to act defensively. If we don't care about class stratification, nothing can hurt us.
If we feel hurt, then we DO care about our net worth.
Here is a food of thought. It's always the helplessly poor people who tend to be bitter and blame the rich for their predicaments.

Hi Yvonne
I think Mr. Chia won’t post this experience if the tune from the staff was merely enchoing the company's mission.
We all know, the content of the message is secondary, the way/tune of the person expressing it is the key.
Under normal circumstances people will react to this unpleasant shopping experience, not so much related to hurting a person due to class stratification or caring of net worth.
I believe in fair and unbiased customer service. A begger money or a doctor money is the same good money, both should entitle for the same customer service, no such thing of upper or lower class. A savvy businessman will know and will do the right way to attract and retain customer.
As I said before, I damn hate people who posses such biased attitude. It is a form of discrimination.
We should react when being discriminated due to race, religion, gender, net worth and the list goes on.
One of the most effective ways is to alert others and boycott the store/product. Just like I have boycotted the Tommy Hilfiger cologne and apparels.

Hi Sagamihara,
In this case, his dissatisfaction was towards the salesperson who is an employee of that supermarket and not the market or its mission per se. How about directing his opinion at the right party?
Tell the supervisor about this employee's unsatisfactory demeanour rather than attacking the supermarket.
I would like to see the supermarket myself one day because not only the value of goods, but ambiance and amount of customer service is factored into the price as well. How many of us here drink Starbucks?

The famous Fei Lo Char Kuey Teow fella at PJ State used to bellow that impatient customers "Cannot wait don't eat" (in Cantonese but his shop is always full...
When he moved to Kelana Jaya, all the customers also followed him there...
How do you explain this? Isn't it back to "willing seller, willing buyer"?
Not happy? Buy the shop and shut it down... habis cerita!

How many of us here drink Starbucks?I dont, unless I am having a meeting there. Coffee Bean is cheaper and has more variety ... and they have meals too.
Not that I go there that often either. Speaking of ambiance, to a google search about the upscale McDonald's restaurants (lounges) now being introduced in New York

Tommy Hilfiger has stated that his products are only fit for white Caucasian, not for inferior coloured people.I thought that was just a rumour. m just stopped wearing the merchandise ever since it started to get too preppy and too bright and loud.

1. He admitted in Oprah show that his products are designed for White, not for coloured people. Oprah asked him to leave the show.
Let assume (1) is also a rumor.
2. In a logical business sense, if one brand was tainted with such rumor. First thing for the brand owner to do is to clarify the rumor. He did not.
Based on (1) and (2), it is not a rumor.

Brader, the email reports stated Tommy Hilfiger said that in The Oprah Winfrey Show and this was denied by both Tommy Hilfiger and Oprah herself. It was a hoax and has been cleared up years back.

Tommy Hilfiger never made those remarks. It was all a vicious rumor that made it's way around through emails and word of mouth. This comment was said to have been made when Hilfiger was a guest on either of the following TV shows: Oprah, The Ricki Lake Show, CNN Style with Elsa Klensch, or Larry King Live. However, these productions have made it clear that Hilfiger has never appeared on any episode of their show.

I followed-up this closely, I did not see clear evidence that he actually denied such rumor. I read different languages of paper, not just English and Mandarin paper in Malaysia but Mandarin papers from mainland and Taiwan. This is to get other info/opinion apart from the mainstream western media.
Maybe I overlooked something, if you guys have a link that indicate he actually denied such racist remarks (genuinely or for business purpose), pls let me know.
Cheers

There are ALL SORTS of people in this world and also in Malaysia, so we should not be at all surprised if we meet with people with ALL SORTS of behaviour and character - I recommend just SMILE and walk away whenever you meet such people .... less stress and tension :)
It is good that you regular forumers let us know about it, but don't work yourself up to a frenzy, watch the blood pressure .... I am only starting to post now after having got a new computer last week with Streamyx broadband, before that dial-up was so slow, only good enough for reading the forum and nothing fancy.

You are right. Having plain response is good for health.
But sometimes, if everything is just plain, no emotion, just smile at it, life can be a little bit too boring.
Just my 2 cents. Cheers

Two hands, Pok Brothers is located in Glenmarie , from Eon showroom hit straight after third traffic light turn right, or dail 103 and ask them to guide you.
However they do not sell loose. for meat minimum 5 kg and above. Most of meat are frozen and you can ask them to saw for you. It takes 6 hours to defroze and it is very fresh.
