My bro-in-law's maid was reported by her agency as 'single' and she was treated extremely well too. Her pay was banked into her own Maybank account etc but my bro-in-law keeps the passbook etc.

During one day just before a Hari Raya, she got a visit from an Indon man. On questionning, she said it was her busband???

The night before Raya, when she asked to go out for prayers and she never came back...

Imagine, she left with all her 9 months pay (RM4,500) still in the bank... I wonder whats on her mind? A Malaysian MyKAD soon?

err..andrea ah, I assume u ave an indon maid, nowadays indon maids quality r not so good, they ave a good life there n expect to be treated like a queen, ur nightmare ave just begun, I had a runaway maid, one blur sotong (blurer than most sotong u find in this forum) that got sent back n lastly a maid who accuse me of abuse her after reading newspaper about it and i got haul up to police station n been advice to send her back (which she happily agree to)without making too much trouble (or paper work for our polici force), so no more indon, philip, kampu, cina maid for me, only employ a part time local maid to wash, iron, vacum, mop, clean toilet who come twice a week n live happily ever after.

my horror maid story sense

never employ a full time maid before, but lots of horror story from relatives and friends...

tried weekly part time from a company the service is ok...
some how its too troublesome to have myself standby at home to wait for the 2~4 hours task...

now all done by me and wife, later train up the kids to do so...
but guess this is harder than hire a maid... :P

employing maid, esp an indonesian maid is akin to playing russian roulette with 4 chambers loaded.
I ahve had 2 runaways in 12tyears! 1 lasted just 84days, just 6 days short of the 'warranty'...then other just 2days of work...both were spotted to be picked up by a van.

But then again, you can strike a mother load of gold...an honest, polite, hard working, conscientious helper who worked, cleaned up, and looked after the kids for up to 10years! My bro-in-law had such a maid. She went back 2 months ago after a decade of service...

Tengok nasib lah..

Speaking from personal experiences....my indon maid ranaway in June and complained to agent who convinced me to instead take a cambodian maid as replacement.

Waited for 3 months before the new cambodian maid arrived, worked for 2 weeks and ended up adding clorex into my drink on the 15th day - we later asked her why, she said she meant "no harm" but just wanted to be sent home as she couldn't stand working as a domestic helper......

I guess, we shouldn't depend so much on stay-in foreign maids as they come with high maintenance costs too....

and yes andre128, since your maid ranaway, you need to make a police report ASAP as this would protect you from being held responsible for her acts in Malaysia given that you're offcially still her employer. With the police report you need to cancel her working permit in putrajaya & pay RM250 as penalty...

One of my relative's family was apparently "voodoo"-ed (Hokkien - kong thau) by their maid until both the elderly parents were listless almost dying - they asked a Chinese sensei and was told that their house was "dirty" and when "objects" were found, they immediately paid off the maid and sent her back - since then things have returned to normal and both couples were sprightly and very active - give me the creeps just to think about it :D

can i get back the money (salary) cos she only work 4 months

I was told by my agent that the general practice (not legal right of employer/obligation of agent) is if the maid works for less than 1 month, you should get a free replacement or monies refunded (after deducting all required expenses - travelling fares, taxes etc - which will usually take up abt 20%)...but again, it depends on the agents...

In my case, my agent did offer a free replacement but I was too traumatised to have another foreign maid tale so i opted for refund... IMO, you can at least get back the 2 months salary advanced.

Some couples have to work and earn enough to keep food on the table, understand that. Not everyone can just not have a job as a single income just ain't enough.

Believe me, my wife & I worked for people before and we could handle everything ourselves. Besides some minor chores, I really can't find a strong reason to keep a full time maid at home unless u have elderly who needs special care lah. For children, I prefer proper child-care service to indo maid.
Funny enough, I notice some of my friends hire maids for the sake of "extreme" convenice and also because "it's a trend" lah. I often hear unlimited complaints from them and after sometimes they fired the maid and were able to miraculously handle all chores themselves... isn't it amazing?:D
I do agree with what you said also, some people may have their personal reasons to hire maids.

I wonder why people still take in Indon maid as there are high cases of runaways. My relative took one and she ran away too although he treated her well.

Cambodian maids have other problems too reported in this forum before.

There is a reason why most coffeeshops prefer and take in myanmar workers - no complaints for most of them.

hahaha ...errr :o sorry... but welcome to the club... of the RM250 contributors to Imigresen coffers...

why in heaven's name, we are penalised when the maid decides to "kabur", beats the hell out of me... a bloody convenient way of making money perhaps?

our maid didn't run away... but she was allowed to go home to see her so called sick mother, but never came back on the day she was supposed to. Went to the Imigresen and KENA DENDA for her not coming back...

Then 2 days before RAYA, she calls and apologises for her mistake and hastiness... now decides to come back and work for us... We told her to go fly kites... 8 years of treating her like a member of the family and the woman decides to take us for a ride... that her mother was sick when in fact, she went back to get MARRIED! She should have just told us the truth and we would have sent her back to get married... we would have given her a big fat 'angpow' too... instead she took us for granted and for fools.

Our efficient Imigresen officer told me that she is now blacklisted and cannot come back to work in malaysia... do you/can you believe this? I know for a fact, that if you pay the right people, in Indonesia you can go get a passport - fake name and age and all... and hop, skip and jump right back into malaysia...

or you could say that you're mongolian and your entry records will not exist... :p

its been almost 2 months without a maid... heck, we're managing!!

Thank God, she didnt run away with some boyfriends in Malaysia and leave the doors wide open like a maid near my restuarant last week.
On the other hand, she might or might not planned to get married. Or even if she did, I guess she might not know how to tell you guys the truth!
My Indo maid was sent back at my request but never come back because she said her husband would let her back. But if she choose to come back, I wouldnt mind taking her back. ;)

The laws are all made out to protect the indon maid.

The employers are not allowed to hold their passports and when they run away, the employer have to pay rm 250 to govt ? And they run away with work not done but salary paid in advance ? :(

So the employers are always on the losing end.

I think it's time that somebody here recommend a good myanmar maid agency. Anybody knows of one ?

whole lot of bullsh!t, isn't it... fact is - maid employers are always getting the raw end of the deal... but the media always say that it is the maids that are abused and tortured.

yunno, come to think of it... why is it people think that only the maids are worked to the bone.... heck, NOT all that employ maids are earning 5-6 figure salaries... my colleague is a single mother/divorcee/convert - that SLOGS HARD to make enough to pay for her commitments and to pay for the maid's wages... she really has no choice but to leave her kids to the maid's care and everytime she goes to work, she prays really hard that her trust in the maid is not BETRAYED or that her kids would be safe while she is away on duty....

fact is.... the only people that really benefits from this maid issues are the freaking maid agencies and the middlemen that have vested interest...

worst part is, there is no tax exemption or rebates for situations like this... :(

So you saying... that my "single parent/divorcee/convert" colleague should live within her means and leave the kids alone while she goes to work (because her crap husband doesn't care enough to take care of the kids or pay for childcare while he is having fun with the new younger wife).... or she shud just quit her job and stay home and HOPE for help and charity... would appreciate some suggestions here...

Other options: You can send son to baby sitter and for cleaning, get part-time maid to come in once or twice a week according to yr schedule

BTW, my sister's maid disappeared after 2 months on the job, didn't even bother to take her clothes. You can bet that there is some hanky-panky here to make them vanish seamlessly into our country.

My advice is, one of you have to cease to work and take care of the child no maid is reliable if you spending most of the the time at work. You are providing her with lots of temptations.

I dont think you will have peace of mind after this incident.

I totally agree with u, it's a hard but vital decision. No one can replace the role of a mother/father. Besides the reliability of the maid, the child may very soon be influenced by the care-taker and grow up to be like her/him. When I first had my child it was tough life for us, but we made the decision to "pao" everything ourselves. Remember friend, you reap what you sow.

Andrea, if you want a maid with lower risk of running away, go for them Cambodian maids.. The set back though is that these Cambodian maids are generally a little 'slower' then them from Indonesia. If you are lucky, you might just get a fast learner (% is not in your favour though).. So, you might need to have some patience with them.. I am always wary of maids from Indonesia.. from many of my colleagues' feedbacks they tend to run away a lot...

alternative would be day care for your kids and day cleaner maids for your house. Good luck, dude ;)

At the risk of repeating...there was NOT even once that ANY of Orchi's maids...
ever given Orchi any sort of troubles...

Orchi stresses...BOTH Wifey n Orchi would go out to work in the morning...
n return by night...
Little Orchis basically grew up with ONLY their Kakak(s) looking after them...
at home...

Little problems did occur before...like when little Orchis were toddlers...
they smacked their Kakak(s) because their Kakak(s) would take away...
or hide their toys...UNLESS they finished their meals...or homeworks...

All heck went loose on few occasions...when Orchi got home n found out...
about how little Orchis had disrespected n more or less abused their Kakak(s)...you see...?
So it's up to one's best guesses...
how Orchi had to teach them a couple of...good old fashion lessons...
on their butts...!!!

Nonetheless...at the end of the day...after all things said n done...
Show the Kakak(s) with due respect...
Patiently EDUCATE the Kakak(s) on the TEDIOUS n BORING household chores...
that NEEDED...to be done as properly as possible...
especially like educating them on how NOT to put the Electric Cattle...
on the gas stove...to boil water...
or how to use the washing machine properly...having NOT to overload it...
with too much laundry...or detergent...

Finally...treat them as one of YOUR OWN family members...
n love them...like how you would want your OWN childrens to be loved...
by their...Kakak(s)...

NO Rocket Science required...just need some common sensibility n humility...
to do it right...

Oh btw...the ONLY time Orchi gets to dislike ANY neighbour(s) BAD attitude...
n ill treatment to their maids...
would be the ones...whom would DEMAND that their maids...
do certain UNPRODUCTIVE chores...
like to wash their family cars...like on DAILY basis...
once in the early morning hours...before being driven out to work...
again in the late afternoon or late evening...
after being driven home from work...

n again...whenever it rains...n their cars gotten wet or slightly dirty...
of some sorts...

What kinda bulls**t pleasures does this kind of folks gets...
arising from such ill treatment to their maids...
getting them to wash NOT one...but at least 2 or more...
of their freaking family tin cans...
Proton...Toyota...Hyundai...Kia...Nissan...Ford... Mercedes Benz...BMW...
Kancil...MyVi...Honda...Volvo...Mazda...etc. etc..???

Cleaner tin cans...shinier wheels...on DAILY basis...???

What kind of freaking sick BullS**t pleasure...is that...???

i think we can only recruit maids from indonesia, sri lanka, cambodia and filipine...

The word 'China maid' is taboo for many women ... :D

Wonder why the govt don't allow myanmar maids which are working in every kopitiam in Msia.

They're much more reliable than indon maids.

To ease the pain Andre128, here is the oldie from Del Shannon MY LITTLE RUNAWAY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OwkQPSsIxc)

The chorus in the song:

I won...won...won...wonder.... why...why...why... she ran away...
My little run... run.. runaway...

Oh, its dedicated to your agent PHILIMORE too. :D

Yeah, even we know about it..so our good government, who, what is going to be done? ..diam-diam ..sahaja..until election time, start promising the world again...

Maybe they meant , that the victim cannot runaway...?

Well, if someone is bitten twice, then shame on him/her for not thinking..probably deserves it then..
If I was Philimore, they should just change their name and business as usual..
actually what we need to know is WHo is the evil proprietor behind the business.
