OMG....

"UiTM vice-chancellor Tan Sri Prof Dr Ibrahim Abu Shah said it was unfair the put to the responsibility of fight crime on the polices shoulder.

Students must play their role as the police in the campus because we are in a big community, he said and urged more students to register as Rakan Cop."

So what should police do??

Do Rakan cops get police salaries and "fringe benefits"? If so, where can I apply?

If only the cop can truly sing the James taylor number - you got a friend

When youre down and troubled
And you need a helping hand
And nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest nights.

You just call out my name,
And you know whereever I am
Ill come running, oh yeah baby
To see you again.

But the problem is they would be hiding behind the trees and dangerous junction or uner the tunnel, to issue summon and later ask you - Mahu selesaikah?
Or they would going hundreds of miles just to show off thier presence in bye -bye elections.
Or they would be setting up roadblocks to catch traffic summon instead of catching the criminals.
Or they would be busy conducting operasi to catch candle lights holders, and leave the crime jobs to volunteers like Rela or students or secuirity guards.
Or it takes them 2 hours to come when you spotted somebody on your rooftop.
Or either the robbers is apprehended or not, it takes you two hours to lodge a simple police report over the incident in spite of computer and internet age.
Or .......like the Proton Chairman said they are not the lame duck, sitting duck perhaps? :p

It all boils down to attitudes. But I would not entirely blame them for their poor attitudes. The PDRM inherited their present structures from the British. Before the British left, they should have re-structured the PDRM to serve the people better especially in fighting crimes. Right now, the PDRM is responsible for so many national security issues and that gives them an attitude problem.

For example, in this age of terrorism and fanaticism, it is time that we have a national intelligence agency. The Special Branch comes to mind. Hive off the SB to make it our national intelligence agency. Called it the Special Branch Intelligence or something. Appoint an Inspector-General to head it, with the same rank at the current IGP. The Special Branch does not have to go after criminals or what not. The CID can do it just as well.

As for the General Operation Forces, they should be dismantled and re-assigned to crime prevention. Their officers can be re-assigned to be IOs as there is a dearth of IOs everywhere. The military can take over the GOF's roles.

Since drugs are a big problem, we should also have a National Drug Enforcement Agency. Hive off the PDRM narcotics department and appoint an Inspector-General to head it.

All these measures will help these agencies to stay focused on their job. But as it is, everything is dependent on that one person.

Modern crimes are different from the old days....these days, these criminals are armed to the teeth and to deal with the armed, I do not expect the ordinary folks who are not equipped to volunteer.

Even Armed Police are known to petrol in groups what more unarmed ordinary folks

Let the professionals ( Police) do it and if they short of man-power, recruit more Police personnels.

Still not enough, double the recruitment.

Special Branch was formed at first to gather intelligence about communists. But since the communist was disband , guess what was the role? To gather political activities of non ruling parties! Anyhow, the Special Branch consist of small proportion of the force.
I am sure they did not inherit all the attitude of from the British for the current state of affairs. Mostly the bad ones......And we cannot say it is due to the british we have this lack of professionalism. Singapore police force was inherited from the british too, but look at them. You can ask for ignorance of being a foreigner when you are caught for littering, but just try to selesai with them!
Crimes are dealt with a branch called CID. evrywhere in the world has this branch and of course if foreign or political linkage is involve, the special branch would chip in to assist the investigation. See some 007 movies, you would get the drift.
Drugs is with either the CID or Narcotics team. And being the enforcemnt agency, they are to assist each dept as they is always linkage between the both crimes.
Now, back to the questions which affect all Malaysians and being terrorised----Why are you not suggesting the traffic dept to disband as the urgency of crimes is so frightening ?If needed , they can be reinforce to check on OPS Sikap during every festival seasons to reduce accidents. I am sure even if we were to deploy RELA for this purpose, there would not be a public outcry if they are there to assist in issuing summon. But asking them to patrol the streets with two weeks tranning to safeguard themselves from criminals and protect the citizen, it doesnt add up!
And kindly note the former postings why police needs friends? Two hours of everything.
The real change that should come is from the policies by the govt of the day. From Tun Mahatir to Pak Lah and Naib, they all sing the same tune. We fight crime------ but all NATO!
You see money spend elsewhere except to upgrade police force in terms of training, wages and allowances.
Get real, even the revamped of ACA to MACC to model over Hong Kong ICAC is a big fiasco! :p

I have known quite a number of officers who are dedicated to thier jobs, I meant real dedicated but unfortunately as time goes they decided to take it easy ( though I dont think they are taking bribes ) as they become more disiillusioned with policies and politics and of improper promotion status. As long as the meter jalan with the paycheck, they just continue with thier paperwork instead of in depth investigations.
Sadly but true. In fact, these guys were looking up to famous crime busters like Kula and Yeap Ah Kow as thier models.
BTW, before they are retired , two of them already opted for private sector because of the above factors. Such a shame though. A big loss especially one of them was really feared by the crime bosses.

Some of the lazy and envious ones will try to pull down the better performing officers.

One must also be mindful how the politicians have also further mucked up the force

Maybe, but some of the factors include Kulitfication! Like one of the officer said " how would you like to answer your subortinate who is your superior now and he asked bagaimana nak jawab dan buat lapuran ini, ah? '

Are you trying to close this thread? A discussion on the Royal Malaysian Police and it goes political AGAIN?

Remember the time when we were young, we look up at the mata-mata and some of us aspire even to be in the force. Sadly, things have deteriorated to such a sad level. I believe there is a need for a massive and thorugh overhaul of the entire force and instilling professionalism in the cops. That will need an independent police force and a reall good professional top cop.
