I just saw this message from my friend. It happened less than 2 hours ago at Carrefour, Subang Jaya, where his car window was smashed. Please read on.

My car was broken just now - at Carrefour Subang Jaya! They smashed the back door's window and ransacked my car. They could be looking for laptop. I always leave the laptop in my boot but today..... just don't feel like taking it home and l...eft it in my office. After parking, a nearby security guard told me to be careful. I thanked him but told him that there's no laptop today but I left my office bag in the boot.

When I returned to get my car and saw the smashed window, there were two policemen on patrol nearby too; and told them - they said i...t's very common in Carrefour! The management refused to increase the number of security guards or to install more CCTV.

So, friends...... be careful. Anyway, the reporting procedure at Balai Polis SS17 is very fast; got my report in less than 10 min. My case is number 4 or 5 within one evening - all at Carrefour and Subang Parade! Tomorrow: Repair window.

Some 2 weeks back after I parked my car at Carrefour and while walking towards the entrance from the carpark, the security there asked me whether I have a laptop in the car and adviced me to take it with me if I have one... to avoid breaking in. I had a short chat with him and infact he told me there had been many cases of laptop being stolen from cars parked there. Until they the management are giving out flyers to warn customers. Its really so unsafe to leave anything in the car nowadays.

A friend even got her window smashed because she put a pair of sunglasses at the dashboard..eventually glasses taken! My cousin even got his camera stolen from the glove compartment! (Bangsar Shopping Centre)

Holy sh!t!! 4 months ago my son was a victim in this place too. He lost his mission critical new Macbook Pro, backup disk, leather bag, a brand new Nikon D60 and lenses. Total loss of more than RM10,000! Not only that he lost his 3 years work portfolio stored in the Mac and backup disk. The poor boy cried for 3 days and 3 nights over his loss besides having to replace the smashed rear window glass of the borrowed car from a friend.

I was angry with him for his carelessness but was heart-broken too seeing his sorrow over his loss. In desperation I even approach the car wash operators at the basement for "information" and offered a reward of RM8,000 for return of the loot knowing very well it was near impossible.

My advise to you guys is to avoid parking your cars there if possible. You never know when your windows are going to be broken for a lousy SmartTag or a an empty envelop with a bank's logo which you nonchalantly left on the front seat! It happened to my car where I left a yellow Public Bank envelop containing some empty angpow packets!!

Looks like similar break-ins are very rampant in this hypermarket and yet the management is not doing anything at all. I went to see the management when my son's borrowed car was broken into and asked to view the CCTV tapes. To my surprise they only have CCTV coverage on the entrance and exit but none whatsover in the car-parks.

I'm sure the SS17 balai has many reports over such incidence but sadly the hypermarket don't seems to beef up their security.

On second thought, I think it is cheaper to park your car at the road side and face a RM100 parking fine rather than paying more $$ and hassle to replace a broken window! :D

yeap .. very common a SJ carrefour.. some even lost their vehicles.. and also a gentle reminder to avoid parking opposite SJ carrefour, behind those shop lots.. another hot spots for car break-in & stealing rims, specially during rainning season, regardless day / night.

Don't be angry with him,,he is the victim..the responsibility lies with the police force...whose job is to catch criminals..and the shopping centre to ensure adequate security of patron's belonging in their building..

None of these were properly enforced..so can only blame the administrative system..where we pay tax for and frankly, we allowed the system to exists.
So we are partly to be blamed.Doing nothing and silence has long been taken as acceptance..sorry for your son's loss..

Sigh! Sigh! Sigh!!

Everytime when I see a big bunch of traffic polices hiding behind pillars to surprise traffic offenders under the Sunway/Motorola flyover, it makes me wonder why they are so active in catching traffic offenders. Why not spend more time to reduce the crime rate in our country, especially when it is so rampant now. How about setting their priority correctly. Whenever a crime takes place, the reason given is there's not enough police force!! What a lame excuse!

Glad that the residents in USJ2 is already taking some actions to start the gated and guarded community today. During the gathering, there were so many sharings of robbery and snatch bag cases shared by the residents. Now it's time for us to fight crime together!! Before the robbers and thieves put more fear into our lives! I love this kind of unity we share, my dear neighbours!!! :p

bloody hell... at the rate the subang jaya & usj residents are forced to ensure their own security - I wouldn't be suprised [at all] if carrefour would invite residents to setup another G & G scheme, for carrefour  sheeesh....

meanwhile - the real people that are supposed to be responsible for our safety and security - are busy playing "hide and seek" around blind spots and back lanes - looking for hp users and seatbelt non-users and the occasional non licensed biker...

I found this on the web...in western countries..or in time of crisis, rape and looting, this happens..people take upon themselves to do the job..

vigilante n. One who takes or advocates the taking of law enforcement into one's own hands.

Of course, I am not suggesting this at all..

p/s Kelate has the lowest snatch thieves (dont talk about AIDS, Single parent etcetc) case per capita.

WHY? Simply bcos a scream from the snatchvictim (regardless of race) will have half the townfolks (regardless of race) chasing the snatch thief/ves (regardless of race) until they are caught...then they will be beaten until the daylights are shut out or till half dead or fully dead, which ever comes first... Do i condone such public service? disservice? Do I kesian the injured or even dead robbers? No prize for the right answer....HAAHHAHAHAH!

Talking about car windows smash..my car's window was smashed...passenger window behind driver, last week. Parked outside my house at USJ20, and in the morning getting ready to go to work realised the windows was shattered. The window tint prevented the shattered glasses falling internally.
Anyway, the same incident happened to my next door neighbour's car parked just infront of me half a year ago. The irony is our place is gated.

A couple of months ago, my colleague went to sunway Pyramid for a quick bite. Parked the car at a proper bay...40mins later, the rear window smashed and a bag (with dirty t-shirt, smelly shoes, stinky underwear, half bottle of giant brand RO water) was stolen...

The lesson: NEVER leave an exposed bag on the back seat. U know whats inside the bag...the thief doesn't. He thought he struck jackpot of a motherload of gold! :p And u got the hassle of a broken rear window, etcetcetc...

I use a passive method, I stopped going to carre4 and summit long long time ago.

I will only go to subang parade and pyramid when it is dam necessary.

I guess I’m lucky, my work place is in klcc and I try to get many things done there after work.

I have parked my car there more than 10 years. So far, nothing happens, thanks God and hope the klcc management keep-up the good work.

For others, I advise you to do your weekly marketing at community minimarket like Herbs n Food, Speed99….

I know the traffic and parking is a hassle…but I think it would be safer..

A friendly reminder to all notebook owners. Please do not put your notebook in the trunk especially those carrying from the office. They actually wait outside those IT savvy office and follow them from work. As long as they think there is a notebook in the bag, they will follow you (especially when you walk to your car). I personally had a notebook bag (without the notebook) stolen from my car. 1 week later, I saw people following me when driving. Lost him on the road and saw the same car outside my office 1 hour later. From that day onwards, all the office employees be extra careful. We average 3 notebooks stolen in a month.

Always play safe. NEVER, EVER leave anything in the car. Not even a plastic play. Dont tempt the bugger's curiousity. And if you want to leave anything valuable in the boot, dont do it when you reach your destination. DO it before you travel to your destination. That way, no one will know you have something in the boot even if they are watching you when you arrive. I take plenty of precautions and, touch wood, so far so good! And I always thank whoever is watching over me from above!

You mean: blame it on a government who sets such a lousy example by pillaging its citizens, consider crime against citizen and corruption normal and also allow cost of living to escalate so much that people gets desperate.

012-6933996Hi Robert. I recall from a court decision made last year that a car park owner is liable if the contents of cars are stolen...provided that the items are not clearly visible.

The "park at your own risk" signs that you see in car parks are not disclaimers of liability.

And for a closed car-park like Carrefour, the liability is even higher.

In other words, Carrefour has to compensate the people who had their cars broken into.

Take them to court if necessary...you are likely to win.

Cheers, m

If there is a sign prominent enough informing motorists they park at their own risk, the complex owner should be absolved of the blame. You have been forwarned! However the sign and the message must be transmoitted to the motorist before he enters the complex, not while in the complex. There is a precedent case on this somewhere involving a British court case.

I am trying to compose "my" car breakin at Carrefour Subang Jaya on 26/10/2009 at 8.45pm.

A Police report has in the meantime been made at Balai Polis SS17 (in all, the reporting took about an hour+)

The story will be out soon (once I have sorted out my Computer problems etc...), hopefully with a fairy tale outcome not only for me, but for all residents and even for Carrefour.

Robertec - You are a good man. Let's hope someone from Carrefour is reading usj.com. Just to share a past incident, Carrefour don't bother to even reply to a email and I have given up going there.

To: 'hqmy@carrefour.com'; 'subangjaya_my@carrefour.com'
Subject: Incident at Carrefour Subang Jaya on 20th July 2008.

Attn – The General Manager

I wish to bring to your attention that my wife’s car was badly scratched in the front bonnet and boot while parked at Basement 1 of your Subang Jaya store last Sunday between the time 1230 – 1430. Upon return to her car after shopping at your store she found a ‘SECURITY CONE’ placed on the top of my car. She drove off after thinking that the cone was a warning that she had parked in an unauthorised space and not to do it again the next time around.

It was very much later that I found the scratches and she recalled that she have not been to any other places except Carrefour, Subang Jaya. By placing a security cone on the car it shows that somehow your security people is ‘involved’. I called up your hotline and spoke to one of your customer services representative who was rather helpful and later an executive called back to get the details of the incident but denying responsibilities on the part of Carrefour upfront but promised to investigate and get back to us but till todate there has been no response.

We spent a pretty hefty sum in your store weekly for our provision and has been patronising your store since it was opened way back more than 10 years ago. This might be an isolated incident but the attitude of your security people leaves much of desire and we are having second thoughts about shopping at Carrefour again nor feel safe being there.

It is not so much on the monetary value of the damages to the car but is the attitude of your security people based at the car park and the part of Carrefour in denying responsibility up front is totally unprofessional of an international chain. Like I mentioned earlier, by placing a security cone on the top of her car shows some how you security people had a part in it.

I am not expecting a reply to my email nor any further follow up to my phone call last Sunday but it is time that you look at your security people again. If I have not mistake one of the core values of Carrefour is “We fully accept the consequences of our actions on customers, our company and employees, institutions and the environment.”

There is a precedent case on this somewhere involving a British court case.right, but the Malaysian court ruled that is wasnt enough to absolve a car park operator of responsibility.

Plus, there is a difference between an uncontrolled, open parking lot and a more secure parking lot like Carrefour.

They don't want to station more men, then, boycott them. Look at what has happened to Giant. They were the top hypermarket in Selangor and now? They don't even know what hit them. It was a silent boycott. If every member in this forum were to stop frequenting them, they would have lost a lot of business.
