Thought I must share this info with you folks. Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) is organising this very interesting trip there. It's not often that such opportunity prevails. Further, one gets to visit Bunaken Marine Park, one of the best dive sites in the world. Its really, really beautiful and the water is crystal clear!!

If interested, please contact MNS directly.

November 21–28 (Sat–Sat)

Nature Appreciation Trip: North Sulawesi, Indonesia Grade 2 (Moderate)

The Pathfinders are organizing a nature appreciation trip to North Sulawesi which will see us heading to areas known for their rich wildlife and spectacular volcanic mountains, coloured highland lakes and National Parks rich in birdlife and endemic mammals.

The itinerary will include Tangkoko National Park, home of the smallest primate (tarsier) in the world, as well as the Black Macaque Monkey (with
pink heart-shaped bum) and the knobbed hornbill. The trip will also include a trek to the cool Minahasa Highlands (Mt Lokon (1580 m) and Mt Mahawu (1311 m)—active volcanoes) and also a trip to Bunaken Marine National Park. North Sulawasi lies east of the important hypothetical 'Wallace line'
(please refer to footnote).

The estimated cost is RM 950.00 for basic accommodation, food (at national parks), transportation (bus/van), park fees, guide/porter fees and
Group Fund. Air flight ticket from KLIA to Manado and return is EXCLUDED. Currently, AirAsia flies to from KLIA–Manado on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Trip deposit of RM300.00 (non-refundable) is required by 15 September and the balance payable latest by 30 September.

That should be a fun trip. I've been told by my Indonesian friends that N.Sulawesi has some great sights of the 'nature' kind and if you are not the 'vegan' type, apparently the seafood there is one of a kind!

i had tried the robber crab aka coconut crab on my last trip there. Not that tasty but its an experience.

To view the tarsier at the National Park, u will need to travel for around 3-4 hours from Manado town to Lembeh Straits and another few hours trekking.

am still here in Manado, just did a day trip to Lembeh Straits...le me correct myself, the journey now takes 1.5 hrs from Manado to Bitung. It would be probably anther 30-45 minutes to the national park to view the tarsiers.
Weather here is perfectly cool, water even colder.
Passed by the "flying" Jesus statue on the way to Bitung.
In my opinion, the diving in Bunaken is not as good as Sipadan, but Lembeh Straits never fail to amaze us....I'll try to post some pics when i get back....tats in 3 days time... :D
