Yes, they did that to me in 2007 when i had a few package of 3 in 1 from Ipoh.

The reason----foot and mouth disease in Boleh. ( in one of the threads, someone mentioned someone got F & M disease last week--so F & M disease is still current in Boleh)

3 in 1 from Singapore----ok wor.

Last time, we came back from Bali & we bought some handicrafts.

The Quarrantee fellow took out a piece of large white paper & started knocking the handicrafts on it....then & only then, I realised there were plenty of small little multi-legs creatures running around the paper.

There were 2 options----pay A$35.00 to quarranttee these items or confiscate.

Since the handicrafts oni cost a few dollars, they went straight into the bins.

If they doubt the labels, yes, they will open up your Moon Cakes & cut them....serious....dun play play....they are really good at this & they take their time.....quequeing up for food quarrantee sometimes take 2 hours...KK to KL flight time

A lot of black hair aunties hide foods here & there...and these are the ppl who took up most of the inspection time.

Quarranttee officers even go & take out their used underwears in their luggages one at one time & checked them.

Does Malaysia have something like that?.. or only limited to drugs, firearms, explosives, contraband, sexual stuff, etc. BUT, just about anything else APA PUN BOLEH!.. ESPECIALLY FAKE and VERY EL-Cheapo STUFF!...GALORE!! Not to worry.. tax and duties are sometimes paid, so its NOT much of a problem.

Does Malaysia have something like that?... Generally, the concern about importing live stuff to Australia is purely because the Australian continent is very unique. Due to its isolation without any historical land connections to any other continents, it had developed a very unique flora and fauna. Importation of any non-native life-form to Australia can have very serious consequences. In the past, the intorduction of rabbits (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbits_in_Australia) to Australia created a serious problem because there were no predators for wild rabbits to control the population.

Australia's economy is highly dependent on meat exports. Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) does not exist there and the Australian quarantine has to be extra strict about bringing in any form of animal protein that could carry the FMD virus.

In West Malaysia, we are already infected with FMD due to poor quarantine enforcement and smuggling of cattle from the north through our border with Thailand that is impossible to patrol and monitor. However East Malaysia is free from FMD and they are very strict on animal quarantine. At the moment livestock farming is not very big in E. Malaysia but in the future, if large scale cattle farming is carried out over there, you can bet that they will exercise similar stringent controls like in Australia.

Which reminded me of a trip my wife and I made to Melbourne couple of years back. Her niece liked a certain kind of cactus when she visited us in Bolehland and so wifey planted one and nurtured it for a year and packed it nicely and hand carry into Melbourne Airport with a nice looking new pot too, just a small box.

At the airport, the custom officer said only 6 words "Ma'am, we do not allow plants" and chucked the whole box of cactus, new pot and what have you into the bin.

If I had not been standing there, I believe wifey would have smack the officer on the spot, one whole year of tender loving care gone in a flip of a second...

Any reasons ?As I had explained earlier that West Malaysia is infected with FMD, all dairy products from Malaysia are thus disallowed in Australia. Indonesia is free from FMD, therefore their dairy products are allowed. Just very simple quarantine rules.

Talking about shoe--- those days with MAS, Qantas etc, your travelling golf bag is free ie do not count to the weight of your luggage ....and it always followed me when golfing overseas.

1 day, my Boleh caddy did not clean the golf shoe properly & there was a little mud left in the spike....the quarrantine officer took out my golf shoe, found a mud & he took a brush & removed it ..then used a wet cloth to clean it again for me........without complaining.

After this I made sure it's 100% clean

Yup, FMD very prevalent in Malaysia... especially among our esteemed and higly learned politicians from one side of the camp, truth be told - it is slowly infecting the opposite side of the camp as well... just like any other disease!

Back to the topic on the AQIS standards over there... sometimes it also depends on the darn officer on duty there... I have friends (whom I consider like family, in Perth) and they are heavy duty durian lovers... and this is what I 'normally' would do.... buy premium durian and take only the flesh/pulp over to Perth - frozen!! I know its a gamble but out of the 5 times I brought it over to Perth, 3 times were let through - 2 times, it was confiscated.... :(
... I suspect once we've left the airport - the officers wud hv a durian party at some back office... :p

Whatever you do... rule #1. if you can it it or drink it - declare it - or be prepared to pay a hefty fine!!
