 The BBC is featuring a shocking film, promoted by the Welsh Police, about the dangers of texting [SMS] while driving.

Texting or SMS as we call it is just about getting very popular in the West, although the Asians picked up on the attributes of this moblile tech long back.

Quite frankly, it's a lot more dangerous that talking on your HP while driving.

Watch The Film Here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/8203091.stm)

An idiot driver recently swayed into my biker-friend. This idiot tin canner was SMSing and his car knocked the bike along the north south hiway.

The biker died from a broken neck...Al-Fatihah.

thanks for sharing, Kuma.

perhaps another video for drivers/road users who love to beat the red light?

this morning, came across a motor cyclist who had a pillon rider and beat the red light. gave everyone the middle finger, to indicate he was the king of the road. sheesh...

Around April this year, while I was driving along Gurney Drive, I hooted at a Mini Cooper with a young lady driver behind the wheel, coz she was like stopped in the middle of the road deciding where to go or what to do... she showed me the middle finger. I got mad and hooted her and she sped towards Pulau Tikus and I followed her. Zoom! She went straight into the police station...

I made a police report against her and she called her parents... there is nothing they can do now except wait for the court case. I am going to call the press, I told her parents, to come to the trial. She'll need to fly back from the UK too for the trial. Padan muka....

Errr brother, no offense but lemme get his straight:

She's a
young lady driver...
Mat Salleh I presume...
In a teeny weeny mini cooper
You're in your huge Pajero (?)
She gave you the middle finger...
You got mad, understandably...
She sped off,
towards P. Tikus...
you followed her...
and she thinks you chased her...
all the way to the police station.
There was argument of some sort...
and since you think it concerns public interest,
you threatened to call the press,
and promises to make lotsa trouble for them.

So pray tell brother, what would happen IF,

He's a 6ft 120kg macha from the estate,
driving a 3 tonne lorry,
laden with fresh fertilizer,
He gave you the middle finger,
and he sped off and you chased him,
all the way toward Kg Buah Pala?

Just because she's a lady, doesn't mean she'd get to get away after showing her finger... no?
.... no harm being apologetic for blocking the road, no?

I had a young lady driver, showed me (and my family, kids) the finger too... in Taipan, just because I honked her for parking and blocking the side lane... anyway, couldn't do anything then...

but lets see... I REMEMBER the (if she's reading this, a nice new TOYOTA VIOS) car and the number plates... so next time if I see her in Taipan or elsewhere, and IF she parks indiscriminately... I'll honk her again... and if I get the finger AGAIN... I am gonna stuff that finger up where the sun don't shine, just for being unlady-like... I just hope she don't go sniffing that finger after that... :p

Agree with you. Unfortunately not many knows the advantages of a simple owning up and an apology, or how to do it.

Coming back to the subject of SMS while driving, who has not done it before? I think we are allequally guilty of this dangerous habit.

I know its dangerous and even I have tried it before in the name of convenience, but I need to change myself and not do it again.

It's safer to call the sender on your handsfree to reply the sms instead of typing it!

It is thousand times safer to ‘off’ the HP when driving. Do u know how many people have landed in the wheelchair/died bcos of irresponsible HP users. There was this young guy whose girlfriend end their relationship over the HP. He crashed & now in a wheelchair. U HP users should visit hospitals to understand how dangerous IT IS TO USE YOUR HP WHEN DRIVING, IT IS NOT A QUESTION OF KEEPING YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD ONLY – GOT MENTAL CONNECTION WITH MENTAL REACTION. Buddy the government hasn’t got any money to care for u in that state ok – we all know that by now.

An alternative is to use a hands-free device. Bluetooth headset? Wired headset? These comes with the phone package these days. I bought a cheap reliable Bluetooth headset for a mere Rm 120 and it is pretty decent to use. Think "safety" while driving coz u r not the only one ur putting in danger. Think about the other road users as well.

Safety starts with us ourselves.

FULLY agreed. Life should be and must be mote important than replying a phone call/msg.
